ABSTRACT

This article explores some possible relations between music and psychoanalysis. The author develops his reflection in the clinical field of "extreme situations", in which it is often necessary to develop a response to emptiness. Music is a privileged field in the construction of a metaphorical space capable of figuring out the great ambiguity that characterize the encounters with these patients, creating a ground in which the language can be reborn and deploy. Based on these clinical interrogations that have led the author beyond the psychoanalytical theory, the role of music in the history of the psychoanalytic movement is also explored, as well as in the writing of the case and in the construction of clinical hypotheses, in the transfer situation, by the psychoanalyst

ABSTRACT

Although transgenderism is accorded an increasingly important place at the heart of studies concerning problems of gender nonconformity, it remains a phenomenon that is poorly known, and difficult to define, in particular in its relationship with transsexualism. In fact, in spite of an undeniable kinship between them, these two phenomena can be distinguished one from the other, and each represents a way of relating to the subject of the difference between the sexes. To clarify this subject, this article initially presents their emergence, their commonalities and their differences from a historical point of view. Next, both ways of relating to the difference between the sexes are analysed through two clinical case studies, one of transsexualism and one of transgenderism (from extracts of non-directive clinical interviews, as well as data from the Rorschach test and the Thematic Apperception Test [TAT], analysed by the French psychoanalytic method). At the end of this investigation, it is concluded that the distinction between these two phenomena refers to two abstractions of the difference between the sexes, leading to a transformation that can be pictured as a fulfilment driven by this perception.

ABSTRACT

Purpose We establish hypotheses referring to the work of psychoanalysts’ who are confronted by the drive violence that characterizes the sudden emergence of the body within de psychoanalytical setting. Procedures The clinical experience of the authors with a small child provides the theoretical basis for analysis of the role of the body. Three different clinical situations are then transferentially analyzed. Conclusions The presence of the psychoanalyst is linked to his desire. The body of the psychoanalyst allows is open to actualization, in transference, of displacement from an imaginary Self towards a symbolic Self in which the subject emerges.

ABSTRACT

This article explores the transformations that occur in analytic work from methodological, topographical, and dynamic perspectives, with a particular emphasis on the concept of imaginary transition. Through a theoretical exploration and the presentation of clinical material from five cases, the authors show how the process of working-through emerges in treatment as a result of the changes of rhythm, register, images, phenomena of upheaval, and the numerous displacements that are brought about in and through transference. Events are only markers or clues about a transformation that takes place over the long term.
