ABSTRACT

With the increase in the life expectancy of domestic animals and their increasingly affectionate relationship with their owners, it is possible to observe an increase in cases of neoplasms in these animals. Mammary neoplasia mainly affects older females who have not been castrated, due to hormonal dependence for the development of the tumour. The main form of treatment is surgery. This study aims to carry out an updated review on mammary neoplasms in female dogs covering the anatomy, physiology, prevalence, causes, diagnoses, treatments, prevention and prognosis, based on scientific articles by renowned researchers.

ABSTRACT

ß-fructofuranosidases (FFases) are enzymes involved in sucrose hydrolysis and can be used in the production of invert sugar and fructo-oligosaccharides (FOS). This last is an important prebiotic extensively used in the food industry. In the present study, the FFase production by Aspergillus tamarii Kita UCP 1279 was assessed by solid-state fermentation using a mixture of wheat and soy brans as substrate. The FFase presents optimum pH and temperature at 5.0-7.0 and 60 °C, respectively. According to the kinetic/thermodynamic study, the FFase was relatively stable at 50 °C, a temperature frequently used in industrial FOS synthesis, using sucrose as substrate, evidenced by the parameters half-life (115.52 min) and D-value (383.76 min) and confirmed by thermodynamic parameters evaluated. The influence of static magnetic field with a 1450 G magnetic flux density presented a positive impact on FFase kinetic parameters evidenced by an increase of affinity of enzyme by substrate after exposition, observed by a decrease of 149.70 to 81.73 mM on Km. The results obtained indicate that FFases present suitable characteristics for further use in food industry applications. Moreover, the positive influence of a magnetic field is an indicator for further developments of bioprocesses with the presence of a magnetic field.

ABSTRACT

Neoplasms account for approximately half of the deaths of dogs over ten years of age. This finding, associated with the fact that canine cancer patients will often suffer from the consequences of the systemic spread of the tumour and paraneoplastic syndromes, shows the importance of understanding palliative care by veterinarians and owners. In view of this, this review aims to address palliative care that can be used in veterinary medicine to promote the patient's well-being and quality of life.

ABSTRACT

SUMMARY: The anatomy study is part of the basic cycle of disciplines that composes Veterinary Medicine college curriculum, and its comprehension is essential for other courses subject understanding. However, the current student's profile, the reduced time frame of superior education programs, and the multidisciplinary approach nowadays have made anatomy teaching method outdated and ineffective. Addressing the problem we developed an interactive and multidisciplinary platform based on the blended learning methodology, which could serve as a valuable tool for bovine neuroanatomy comprehension. To produce a new study tool, photos from bovine specimens fixed in formaldehyde, platinated brain pieces sectioned in a metameric order, as well as histological slides of the bovine central nervous system were used. These materials were applied to photos and schemes production, that were correlated with image exams correlation, as well as written content and videotaped classes. The obtained content was compiled into a digital platform, that can serve as an effective additional method to bovine central nervous system study. Furthermore, our results serve as a guide for the development of other blended learning methodologies in veterinary medicine and anatomy teaching. The platform provides a great tool for those who wish to accomplish a better understanding of bovine neuroanatomy and its clinical, surgical and image diagnosis correlations.


El estudio de la anatomía forma parte del ciclo básico de disciplinas que componen el currículo de la facultad de Medicina Veterinaria, y su comprensión es fundamental para el entendimiento de las materias de otros cursos. Sin embargo, el perfil del estudiante actual, la reducción de los tiempos de los programas de educación superior y el enfoque multidisciplinario actual han hecho que el método de enseñanza de la anatomía sea obsoleto e ineficaz. Abordando el problema desarrollamos una plataforma interactiva y multidisciplinar basada en la metodología blended learning, que podría servir como una valiosa herramienta para la comprensión de la neuroanatomía bovina. Para producir una nueva herramienta de estudio, se utilizaron fotografías de especímenes bovinos fijados en formaldehído, piezas de cerebro plastinadas y seccionadas en un orden metamérico, así como láminas histológicas del sistema nervioso central bovino. Estos materiales se utilizaron en la producción de fotos y esquemas, que se correlacionaron con exámenes de imágenes, así como contenido escrito y clases grabadas en video. El contenido obtenido se compiló en una plataforma digital, que puede servir como un método adicional y eficaz para el estudio del sistema nervioso central bovino. Además, nuestros resultados sirven como guía para el desarrollo de otras metodologías de aprendizaje semipresencial en la enseñanza de la medicina veterinaria y la anatomía. La plataforma proporciona una gran herramienta para aquellos que deseen lograr una mejor comprensión de la neuroanatomía bovina y sus correlaciones clínicas, quirúrgicas y de diagnóstico por imágenes.

ABSTRACT

This work aimed to compare the production of collagenolytic proteases produced by M. subtilissimus UCP1262 in submerged fermentation (SF) and solid-state fermentation (SSF) as well as extracting in aqueous two-phase system (ATPS). Collagenolytic protease production was performed in using MS-2 culture medium (SF) and soybean bran as substrate (SSF). Subsequently, the fermented liquid from both fermentations were used for the extraction of enzyme by ATPS, it was verified the influence of different variables from a factorial design 23. In SSF the highest protease and collagenolytic activities were achieved with 362.66 U/mL and 179.81 U/mL, respectively. When compared with SF (26.33 and 18.70 U/mL) higher values were obtained in the activities. The protease partitioning from SF and SSF in ATPS showed a similar profile showing higher affinity for the polymer rich phase. The highest value for the response variable purification factor (3.49) was obtained in the system using SSF. Thus, SSF shows promise as a bioprocess for extracellular production of collagenolytic proteases, using of soybean bran as substrate had used sustainable raw material, aiming application this possible enzyme in the treatment of burns and postoperative scarring.

ABSTRACT

ß-fructofuranosidases (FFases) are enzymes involved in sucrose hydrolysis and fructo-oligosaccharides' production which are of great interest for the food industry. FFase from Aspergillus tamarii URM4634 was extracted using PEG/Phosphate Aqueous Biphasic Systems (ABS), and the impact of magnetic field on the extraction behavior was evaluated. A 24-full experimental design was employed to study the influence of molar mass of PEG, concentrations of PEG and phosphate and pH on the selected response variables, i.e., partition coefficient (K), purification factor (PF), activity yield (Y) and selectivity (S). The influence of magnetic field during partition and NaCl concentration on the same responses was also studied. The best results of FFase extraction without magnetic field (K = 0.50, PF = 4.05, Y = 72.66% and S = 0.06) were observed at pH 8.0 using 12.5% (w/w) PEG 400 and 25% (w/w) NaH2PO4/K2HPO4. Application of the magnetic field allowed improving the performance, with the best results being obtained at the longest distance between magnets (lowest magnetic field) and absence of NaCl (K = 0.93, PF = 4.22, Y = 83.79% and S = 0.09). The outcomes obtained demonstrate that ABS combination with low intensity magnetic field can be used as an efficient FFase pre-purification method.

ABSTRACT

The present study evaluated the influence of the variables polyethylene glycol (PEG) molar mass, pH, PEG concentration and sodium citrate concentration in the integrated production of the protease from Aspergillus tamarii Kita UCP1279 by extractive fermentation, obtaining as a response the partition coefficient (K), activity yield (Y) and concentration factor (CF). The enzyme preferably partitioned to the top phase and obtained in the system formed by variables MPEG = 400 g mol-1, CPEG = 20% (w w-1), and CCIT = 20% (w w-1) and pH 6, in this condition were obtained CF = 1.90 and Y = 79.90%. The protease showed stability at a temperature of 60 °C for 180 min, with optimum temperature 40 °C and pH 8.0. For the ions and inhibitors effects, the protease activity increased when exposed to Fe2+, Ca2+ and Zn2 + and inhibited by EDTA, being classified as metalloprotease. The kinetic parameters Km (35.63 mg mL-1) and Vmax (1.205 mg mL-1 min-1) were also estimated. Thus, the protease showed desirable characteristics that enable future industrial applications, especially, for beer industry.

ABSTRACT

Copaiba oil is a natural product used by Amazonian populations and recognized for its medicinal properties because it has significant antimicrobial activity for several pathogenic microorganisms. The present work aimed to evaluate and characterize the effect of natural oil produced by copaiba - Copaifera multijuga against multiresistant isolates of bubaline mastitis. The nitrocefin test was performed with isolates of Staphylococcus aureus from bubaline mastitis, which were 100% positive for beta-lactamase enzyme detection. Minimum Bactericidal Concentration (MBC) of 25% to 3.12% was obtained for Enterococcus faecalis and Escherichia coli and 50% and 25% for S. aureus, but Klebsiella pneumoniae and Bacillus subtilis were resistant. MBC with 12.5% and 6.25% oil were obtained for most multiresistant bubaline mastitis isolates from the states of Pernambuco, Ceará, Bahia and Alagoas. The results demonstrated the great potential of using copaiba natural oil in the treatment of buffalo mastitis.

ABSTRACT

The industrial demand for proteolytic enzymes is stimulating the search for new enzyme sources. Fungal enzymes are preferred over bacterial enzymes, and more effective and easier to extract. The aim of this work was to evaluate the potential of protease production by solid state fermentation (SSF) of Mucor subtilissimus UCP 1262, evaluate different specific activities, purify and partially characterize the enzyme in terms of biochemical as to the optimal pH and temperature. Initially, the enzyme crude extract was screened for 3 different proteolytic activities, collagenolytic (161.4 U/mL), keratinolytic (39.6 U/mL) and fibrinolytic (26.1 U/mL) in addition to conventional proteinase activity. After ammonium sulfate precipitation, the active fractions with fibrinolytic activity were dialyzed in 15 mM Tris-HCl buffer, pH 8, loaded onto DEAE-Sephadex A50 ion-exchange column and gel filtrated through Superdex 75 HR10/300. The enzyme showed a fibrinolytic maximum activity at 40 C and pH 9,0. The purified enzyme showed activity against a chromogenic chymotrypsin substrate, SDS-PAGE showing a molecular mass of approximately 70 kDa and, the specific activity of 25.93 U/mg. These characteristics suggest that the enzyme could be and efficiently produced in a simple and low-cost way using Mucor subtilissimus UCP 1262 in SSF.

ABSTRACT

A população idosa cresce e as áreas urbanas se expandem mundialmente. Esta realidade interfere na qualidade de vida dos idosos, o que pode afetar sua saúde. Por esta razão, a questão vem sendo discutida pela Organização Mundial da Saúde, que criou o "Guia Global da Cidade Amiga do Idoso", no intuito de identificar pontos fracos e fortes de cidades e localidades quanto à sua amigabil idade ao envelhecimento. Assim, este estudo conduz uma pesquisa qualitativa, utilizando-se da técnica de grupo focal e das diretrizes do guia, para diagnosticar uma região da cidade de Belo Horizonte quanto a seus aspectos amigáveis aos idosos lá residentes. Contou com a participação de mais de 30 pessoas, idosas e não idosas, e concluiu que a região tem potencial para ser considerada amiga do idoso. (AU)


The elderly population grows, and the urban areas expand worldwide. This reality interferes with elderly's life quality, which may affect their health. For this reason, this issue has been discussed by the World Health Organization, which created the document "Global Age-Friendly Cities: a Guide", in order to identify strengths and weaknesses of cities and localities regarding their age-friendliness. Thus, this study conducts a qualitative research, uses the focus group technique and the Guide's guidelines to diagnose a region of Belo Horizonte city concerning its age-friendly aspects. Over 30 individuals, older and younger, participated in the research. The conclusion is that the region has potential to be considered age-friendly. (AU)

ABSTRACT

We perform a literature review to show the importance of universal design in designing the kitchen environment and some kitchen utensils, focusing on the elderly user. As such, we argue about the importance of the built environment for the elderly and particularly of the kitchen. We also provide examples of universal design solutions for the kitchen and some of its utensils. At the end, we discuss the relevance of this study for an aging society.


Realizamos una revisión de la literatura para mostrar la importancia del diseño universal en el diseño del entorno de la cocina y algunos utensilios de cocina, centrándose en el usuario de edad avanzada. Como tal, discutimos sobre la importancia del entorno construido para los ancianos y particularmente de la cocina. También proporcionamos ejemplos de soluciones universales de diseño para la cocina y algunos de sus utensilios. Al final, discutimos la relevancia de este estudio para una sociedad que envejece.


Foi realizada uma revisão da literatura para evidenciar a importância do design universal no projeto do ambiente da cozinha e de alguns utensílios de cozinha, com foco no usuário idoso. Assim, discute-se a importância do ambiente construído para os idosos e, particularmente, da cozinha. Também são fornecidos exemplos de soluções de design universal e para alguns utensílios. Ao final, discute-se a relevância do estudo para uma sociedade que está envelhecendo.

Abstract Tuberculosis (TB) is a chronic disease caused by bacteria belonging to the Mycobacterium tuberculosis complex (MtbC). This disease rarely affects dogs. Canine infections are usually caused by M. tuberculosis. Mycobacterium bovis infections are rare in dogs and associated with consumption of raw milk or contaminated products. Here, we report a Boxer dog who had a M. bovis infection and was admitted to a Brazilian veterinary hospital with a presumptive diagnosis of chronic ehrlichiosis. Despite receiving treatment for chronic ehrlichiosis, it progressed to death. TB was diagnosed during post-mortem examinations using histopathological analysis. Ziehl-Neelsen staining revealed acid-fast bacilli in the kidneys, liver, mesentery, and a mass adhered to the liver. Further, PCR-restriction analysis was performed to identify mycobacteria in the samples. A restriction profile compatible with MtbC was found in the lungs. In addition, PCR-based MtbC typing deletions at different loci of chromosome 9 enabled the identification of M. bovis in the lungs. Therefore, it is very essential to perform differential diagnosis of TB in dogs with non-specific clinical signs and who do not respond to treatment, particularly those who had been in contact with TB-infected cattle or owners. Further, we highlight the use of molecular methods for the identification of bacilli, improving the diagnosis and aiding epidemiological studies.

ABSTRACT

Hemangiosarcoma (HSA) is a malignant neoplasm originating from the vascular endothelium, with high metastatic power and commonly described in the spleen, liver, and right atrium. Thus, the objective of the present study is to report the occurrence of HSA at the base of the left atrium of a male, elderly, Lhasa Apso dog, treated with cyanosis, orthopedic position, cough. In the physical examination, the presence of crackling was observed in pulmonary lobes, murmur in focus of mitral and tricuspid grade IV\VI. The recommended emergency therapy was performed until the clinical improvement of the animal. After echocardiography, mitral and tricuspid valvular degeneration was confirmed, as well as the presence of an irregular, mixed echocardiogram, extra-cardiac, immobile at the base of the left atrium, measuring 2.9 x 1.44 cm in diameter. The clinical therapy established stabilized the clinical picture for 128 days, with recurrence of pulmonary edema and severe hemorrhagic pleural effusion, with the owners opting for euthanasia of the animal and necropsy confirming the definitive diagnosis of extrahepatic SAH at the base of the left atrium.(AU)


O hemangiossarcoma (HSA) é uma neoplasia maligna originada no endotélio vascular, com alto poder metastático e comumente descrito no baço, fígado e átrio direito. Assim, o objetivo deste trabalho é relatar a ocorrência do HSA na base do átrio esquerdo de um cão, macho, idoso, da raça Lhasa Apso, atendido apresentando cianose, posição ortopneica e tosse. No exame físico foi observado presença de crepitação em lobos pulmonares e sopro em foco de mitral e tricúspide grau IV\VI. Foi realizada terapia emergencial preconizada até a melhora clínica do animal, e após a ecocardiografia confirmou-se a degeneração valvular mitral e tricúspide, bem como a presença de uma imagem irregular, de ecogenicidade mista, extracardíaca e imóvel na base do átrio esquerdo, medindo 2,9 x 1,44 cm de diâmetro. A terapia clínica instituída estabilizou o quadro clínico por 128 dias, havendo recidiva do edema pulmonar e efusão pleural hemorrágica grave, com os proprietários optando pela eutanásia do animal e a necropsia, confirmando o diagnóstico definitivo do HSA extracardíaco na base do átrio esquerdo.(AU)

ABSTRACT

A mastite é uma inflamação na glândula mamária que pode acarretar perdas na produção e na qualidade do leite, gerando prejuízos econômicos para a pecuária leiteira. O tratamento é baseado na utilização de antibióticos, sendo, em muitos casos, ineficazes devido à resistência bacteriana já conhecida para esta doença. O objetivo deste trabalho foi selecionar linhagens de Streptomyces spp. produtoras de biocompostos com atividade antimicrobiana frente a isolados do gênero Staphylococcus multirresistentes de búfalas com mastite. Bem como, determinar os melhores parâmetros de produção, e avaliar a produção simultânea de ácido clavulânico. A seleção de Streptomyces spp. com capacidade de produzir compostos com atividade antimicrobiana foi realizada através da técnica bloco de gelose. Dentre as 30 espécies de Streptomyces spp. testadas, o micro-organismo Streptomyces parvulus DPUA 1573 apresentou melhores resultados, sendo capaz de inibir o crescimento de 7 isolados Staphylococcus spp. multirresistentes. Posteriormente, a espécie selecionada Streptomyces parvulus DPUA 1573 foi cultivada em diferentes condições pré-determinadas pelo planejamento fatorial 24, onde as variáveis independentes foram: concentração de soja (0,5; 1,0; 1,5%), glicose (0; 0,5; 1g/L), agitação (150; 200; 250rpm) e temperatura (28; 32; 37°C) e todos os ensaios do planejamento foram monitorados até 120 horas de cultivo. Todas as variáveis independentes influenciaram positivamente no crescimento celular, enquanto que para atividade antimicrobiana apenas as variáveis temperatura e agitação apresentaram efeitos significativos positivos. O líquido metabólito produzido por Streptomyces parvulus DPUA 1573 foi capaz de inibir o crescimento de sete Staphylococcus spp. multirresistentes. As melhores condições de cultivo para a produção de moléculas bioativas por este micro-organismo foi a 37?C, com 250rpm de agitação por período de 72 horas. Nos ensaios que apresentaram atividade antimicrobiana, foi avaliada a produção de ácido clavulânico ao longo do cultivo. A maior concentração de ácido clavulânico foi de 269,84g/L obtidas nas condições de 1,5% de farinha de soja em ausência de glicose no tempo de 96 horas. A linhagem Streptomyces parvulus DPUA 1573 foi eficiente contra Staphylococcus spp. multirresistentes isolados de mastite em búfalas, ainda apresentando concomitantemente produção de ácido clavulânico com o potencial uso farmacêutico.(AU)


Mastitis is an inflammation in one or more mammary glands which can lead to reduction in production and quality of milk causing economic losses to dairy farming. The use of antibiotics is the key for the treatment of this disease, but in many cases ineffective due to bacterial resistance already known for this condition. The aim of this study was to select strains of Streptomyces spp. producing biomolecules with antimicrobial activity against multidrug-resistant Staphylococcus isolated from buffaloes with mastitis, as well as to determine the best production parameters to the evaluation of simultaneous production of clavulanic acid. Thirty species of Streptomyces spp. were used to selecting the greatest producer spectrum of antimicrobial activity (agar block technique), with selection of Streptomyces parvulus DPUA 1573, and 7 multidrug-resistant Staphylococcus spp. sensitive to its biocompounds. The selected strain of Streptomyces parvulus DPUA 1573 was cultured in different conditions predetermined by the factorial design 24, where the independent variables were: soybean concentration (0.5, 1.0, 1.5%), glucose (0, 0.5, 1g/L), agitation (150, 200, 250rpm) and temperature (28, 32, 37°C); all the tests were monitored up to 120 hours of cultivation. All independent variables influenced positively the cell growth, while for antimicrobial activity only the variables temperature and agitation showed positive effects. The antimicrobial bio compounds showed activity against seven multidrug-resistant Staphylococcus spp under the conditions: temperature 37°C, agitation 250rpm, with 72 hours of production process. In the tests which showed antimicrobial activity, was also assessed the production of clavulanic acid along with the cultivation. The highest concentration of clavulanic acid was 269.84g/L obtained under the conditions of 1.5% of soybean flour and absence of glucose in 96 hours. The strain Streptomyces parvulus DPUA 1573 was effective against multidrug-resistant strains of Staphylococcus spp. of mastitis from buffaloes, still showing concomitantly production of clavulanic acid for pharmaceutical use.(AU)

ABSTRACT

A fibrinolytic protease from M. subtilissimus UCP 1262 was recovered and partially purified by polyethylene glycol (PEG)/sodium sulfate aqueous two-phase systems (ATPS). The simultaneous influence of PEG molar mass, PEG concentration and sulfate concentration on the enzyme recovery was first investigated using a 2(3) full factorial design, and the Response Surface Methodology used to identify the optimum conditions for enzyme extraction by ATPS. Once the best PEG molar mass for the process had been selected (6000g/mol), a two-factor central composite rotary design was applied to better evaluate the effects of the other two independent variables. The fibrinolytic enzyme was shown to preferentially partition to the bottom phase with a partition coefficient (K) ranging from 0.2 to 0.7. The best results in terms of enzyme purification were obtained with the system formed by 30.0% (w/w) PEG 6000g/mol and 13.2% (w/w) sodium sulfate, which ensured a purification factor of 10.0, K of 0.2 and activity yield of 102.0%. SDS-PAGE and fibrin zymography showed that the purified protease has a molecular mass of 97kDa and an apparent isoelectric point of 5.4. When submitted to assays with different substrates and inhibitors, it showed selectivity for succinyl-l-ala-ala-pro-l-phenylalanine-p-nitroanilide and was almost completely inhibited by phenylmethylsulfonyl fluoride, behaving as a chymotrypsin-like protease. At the optimum temperature of 37°C, the enzyme residual activity was 94 and 68% of the initial one after 120 and 150min of incubation, respectively. This study demonstrated that M. subtilissimus protease has potent fibrinolytic activity compared with similar enzymes produced by solid-state fermentation, therefore it may be used as an agent for the prevention and therapy of thrombosis. Furthermore, it appears to have the advantages of low cost production and simple purification.

ABSTRACT

The present study aimed to assess the effects of low-level laser therapy (GaAlAs) on the bone repair process within titanium scaffolds in the femurs of healthy and osteoporotic rats. Fifty-six rats were divided into four groups: group Sh: SHAM animals that received scaffolds; group LSh: SHAM animals that received scaffolds and were subjected to laser therapy; group OV: ovarietomized (OVX) animals that received scaffolds; and group LOV: OVX animals that received scaffolds and were subjected to laser therapy. Thirty days following ovariectomy or sham surgery, scaffolds were implanted in the left femurs of all animals in the study. Immediately after opening the surgical site, the inner part of the surgical cavity was stimulated with low-level laser (GaAlAs). In addition to this procedure, the laser group was also subjected to sessions of low-level laser therapy (LLLT) at 48-h intervals, with the first session performed immediately after surgery. The rats were sacrificed at 2 and 6 weeks, time in which femur fragments were submitted for histological and histomorphometric examination, and skin tissue above the scaffold was submitted to histological analysis. At the end of the study, greater bone formation was observed in the animals submitted to LLLT. At 2 and 6 weeks, statistically significant differences were observed between LSh and Sh groups (p = 0.009 and 0.0001) and LOV and OV (p = 0.0001 and 0.0001), respectively. No statistical difference was observed when assessing the estrogen variable. On the basis of our methodology and results, we conclude that LLLT improves and accelerates bone repair within titanium scaffolds in both ovariectomized and healthy rats, when compared to animals not subjected to radiation.

Parkia pendula seed lectin was used to treat cutaneous wounds of normal and immunocompromised mice, inducing cicatrization. Methotrexate (0.8 mg/kg/week) was used as immunosuppressive drug. Wounds were produced in the dorsal region (1 cm(2)) of female albino Swiss mice (Mus musculus), health and immunocompromised. Wounds were daily topically treated with 100 µL of the following solutions: (1) control (NaCl 0.15 M), (2) control Im (0.15 M NaCl), (3) P. pendula seed lectin (100 µg/mL), and (4) P. pendula seed lectin Im (100 µg/mL). Clinical evaluation was performed during 12 days. Biopsies for histopathology analysis and microbiological examinations were carried out in the second, seventh, and 12th days. The presence of edema and hyperemia was observed in all groups during inflammatory period. The first crust was detected from the second day, only in the groups treated with P. pendula seed lectin. Microbiological analysis of wounds from day 0 to day 2 did not show bacterium at P. pendula seed lectin group; however, Staphylococcus sp. was detected every day in the other groups. The lectin markedly induced a total wound closing at P. pendula seed lectin and P. pendula seed lectin Im groups on 11th day of evolution. The present study suggests that P. pendula seed lectin is a biomaterial potential to show pharmacological effect in the repair process of cutaneous wounds.

ABSTRACT

Cramoll 1,4 is a lectin extracted from seeds of Cratylia mollis Mart. Many assays have shown the cytokine release activity and pro-inflammatory profile of this lectin. Here, we used Cramoll 1,4 in the treatment of cutaneous wounds in normal and immunocompromised mice for available your cicatricial power. Surgical wounds were treated daily with a topical administration of Cramoll 1,4 and parameters as edema, hyperemia, scab, granulation and scar tissues as well as contraction of wounds were analyzed. Cramoll 1,4 wounds showed higher edema and arrival of more polimorphonuclear cells at the site of lesions. Granulation tissue and collagen fiber deposition were observed with higher intensity in all Cramoll 1,4 treated wounds and promoted excellent closing and repair of lesions in less time than other groups. Results showed that Cramoll 1,4 lectin was effective in the repair of experimental lesions in mice and can be used as a future cicatricial compound.
