ABSTRACT

The paper is concerned with the results of an analysis of the clinical and EEG data on 193 epileptics. Three types of the EEG were distinguished: 1) with marked epileptic activity and gross disorders of background bioelectric activity; 2) with remarkable alterations in bioelectric activity as compared to normal; 3) with insignificant alterations in bioelectric activity as compared to normal. These EEG types were discovered to be related to a number of the clinical signs constituting the main clinical symptom complex. Factors playing the most important role in differential diagnosis were distinguished.

ABSTRACT

The authors have identified 5 groups of patients with essential hypertension in the recovery period of ischemic stroke. Clinical and social characteristics of patients inside each group were assessed by the proposed evaluation scale which has made it possible to differentiated the selected groups and allowed a more objective determination of their clinicofunctional status and rehabilitative potential. The use of the proposed method of a score evaluation in expert medical examination of working capacity will make it possible already at the recovery period of stroke to predict clinical and social outcomes of the disease for each patient as well as his or her rehabilitative and occupational potential.

ABSTRACT

An algorithm of verbal description of EEGs based on the method of quantitative assessment of the brain bioelectric activity is suggested. One should take into account the distribution, the pattern, the degree of the rhythm distortion by other signals, presence of generalized manifestations, local outbreaks and paroxysms. The algorithm includes description of the orientation reaction, responses to rhythmic and trigger photostimulation, hyperventilation and pharmacological loads. The algorithm suggested allows a more complete use of the information contained in the EEG and can be a good basis for composing a program for respective specialized computers.
