ABSTRACT

Chitosan (CS) composite gels have emerged as promising materials with diverse applications in biomedicine. This review provides a concise overview of recent advancements and key aspects in the development of CS composite gels. The unique properties of CS, such as biocompatibility, biodegradability, and antimicrobial activity, make it an attractive candidate for gel-based composites. Incorporating various additives, such as nanoparticles, polymers, and bioactive compounds, enhances the mechanical, thermal, and biological and other functional properties of CS gels. This review discusses the fabrication methods employed for CS composite gels, including blending and crosslinking, highlighting their influence on the final properties of the gels. Furthermore, the uses of CS composite gels in tissue engineering, wound healing, drug delivery, and 3D printing highlight their potential to overcome a number of the present issues with drug delivery. The biocompatibility, antimicrobial properties, electroactive, thermosensitive and pH responsive behavior and controlled release capabilities of these gels make them particularly suitable for biomedical applications. In conclusion, CS composite gels represent a versatile class of materials with significant potential for a wide range of applications. Further research and development efforts are necessary to optimize their properties and expand their utility in pharmaceutical and biomedical fields.

ABSTRACT

This technique is employed for the simultaneous quantification of aspirin (ASP) and pantoprazole sodium in both pure powder form and formulations. The high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) method uses a C-18 column (250 mm × 4.6 mm, 5 µm) with a mobile phase consisting of 0.05 M disodium hydrogen phosphate and methanol in a 40:60% v/v ratio. The flow rate is maintained at 1.0 mL/min. On a layer of silica gel 60F254 with an aluminum backing, the high performance thin layer chromatography (HPTLC) separation was carried out with ethyl acetate and methanol (8: 1.5 v/v) as the mobile phase. With a mean recovery of 100.54% and 99.55% for ASP and PNT, respectively, quantification was accomplished using the HPLC method with UV detection at 286 nm over the concentration range of 0.1-0.6 g/mL for PNT and 0.4-2.4 g/mL for ASP. With a mean recovery of 99.44% and 99.01% for ASP and PNT, respectively, quantification was achieved using the HPTLC method with UV detection at 298 nm over the concentration range of 400-2400 ng/spot for ASP and 100-600 ng/spot for PNT, respectively. The methods can be used for the simultaneous determination of ASP and PNT in pure powder form and formulations as they are simple, accurate and sensitive.

ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND: In the global health emergency caused by COVID-19, multiple experts have mandated the use of hand sanitizers as a safety measure from COVID-19. The sale of hand sanitizers has increased many folds. Therefore, when there is such large use of hand sanitizers, it becomes extremely important to study and understand hand sanitizers in a comprehensive manner. This article starts with the importance of sanitizers as a defence mechanism that is employed by the hand to fight against the coronavirus. This article provides information about history, types, composition, various dosage forms, and marketed formulations of hand sanitizers. The article sheds a detailed light on industrial production techniques for hand sanitizers and also outlines new innovative techniques that were employed by the industry to mass produce hand sanitizers in the wake of the pandemic. The article further dives into a comparison between hand sanitizers and soaps so as to give pros and cons of the use of soap against the use of hand sanitizers. One of the aims of the article is to study the side effects of sanitizers so as to develop a cautious approach while using hand sanitizers and therefore a comprehensive list of side effects of the use of hand sanitizers is given. CONCLUSION: The review article finds that hand sanitizers are extremely efficient in fight the virus but along with it, it brings along arrange of risks which are outlined in the article.
