ABSTRACT

Emotions are synchronizing responses of human brain while executing cognitive tasks. Earlier studies had revealed strong correlation between specific lobes of the brain to different types of emotional valence. In the current study, a comprehensive three-dimensional mapping of human brain for executing emotion specific tasks had been formulated. A hybrid computational machine learning model customized from Custom Weight Allocation Model (CWAM) and defined as Custom Rank Allocation Model (CRAM). This regression-based hybrid computational model computes the allocated tasks to different lobes of the brain during their respective executive stage. Event Related Potentials (ERP) were obtained with significant effect at P1, P2, P3, N170, N2, and N4. These ERPs were configured at Pz, Cz, F3, and T8 regions of the brain with maximal responses; while regions like Cz, C4 and F4 were also found to make effective contributions to elevate the responses of the brain, and thus these regions were configured as augmented source regions of the brain. In another circumstance of frequent -deviant - equal (FDE) presentation of the emotional stimuli, it was observed that the brain channels C3, C4, P3, P4, O1, O2, and Oz were contributing their emotional quotient to the overall response of the brain regions; whereas, the interaction effect was found presentable at O2, Oz, P3, P4, T8 and C3 regions of brain. The proposed computational model had identified the potential neural pathways during the execution of emotional task.

ABSTRACT

Attentional cognitive control regulates the perception to enhance human behaviour. The current study examines the atltentional mechanisms in terms of time and frequency of EEG signals. The cognitive load is higher for processing local attentional stimulus, thereby demanding higher response time (RT) with low response accuracy (RA). On the other hand, the global attentional mechanisms broadly promote the perception while demanding a low cognitive load with faster RT and high RA. Attentional mechanisms refer to perceptual systems that afford and allocate the adaptive behaviours for prioritizing the processing of relevant stimuli based on the local and global features. The early sensory component of C1, which was associated with the local attentional mechanism, showed higher amplitudes than the global attentional mechanisms in parieto-occipital regions. Further, the local attentional mechanisms were also sustained in N2 and P3 components increasing higher amplitude in the left and right hemispheric sides of temporal regions (T7 and T8). Theta band frequency had shown higher power spectrum density (PSD) values while processing local attentional mechanisms. However, the significance of other frequency bands was noticeably minute. Hence, integrating the attentional mechanisms in terms of ERP and frequency signatures, a hybrid custom weight allocation model (CWAM) was built to assess and predict the contribution of insignificant channels to significant ones. The CWAM model was formulated based on the computational linear regression derivatives. All the derivatives are computationally derived the significant score while channelizing the hierarchical performance of each channel with respect to the frequent and deviant occurrences of global-local stimulus. This model enables us to configure the neural dynamicity of cognitive allocation of resources within the different locations of the human brain while processing the attentional stimulus. CWAM is reported to be the first model to evaluate the performance of the non-significant channels for enhancing the response of significant channels. The findings of the CWAM model suggest that the brain's performance may be determined by the underlying contribution of the non-significant channels. ABSTRACT

Oak powdery mildew caused by Erysiphe alphitoides (Griffon and Maubl.; U. Braun & S. Takam.) is a common disease in European forests. One of the most susceptible species is the pedunculate oak (Quercus robur L.). Presently, a few methods are available to control powdery mildew, e.g., the use of fungicides (e.g., based on citric acid), antagonistic fungi or bacteria, chemical treatments (e.g., sulphur, potassium bicarbonate) or genetic resistance. In our study, we aimed to check the effects of using chitosan derivatives and novel active substances inducing the plants' natural resistance: benzodiathiadiazole (both in neutral and salt form). 84 pedunculate oak seedlings were subjected to the experiment in three treatment variants (plus positive and negative controls). The plants were treated with active substances and inoculated with E. alphitoides. Although the powdery mildew symptoms appeared in all variants, they were manifested mainly by the mycelium in the form of small spots. The experiment indicated that the highest limitation of powdery mildew mycelium was achieved by applying N-methyl-N-methoxyamide-7-carboxybenzo(1,2,3)thiadiazole (BTHWA). The application of BTHWA reduced disease development by 88.9% when compared to the effects of the other variants.

ABSTRACT

The ability of plant resistance inducers to provide protection against viral diseases is one of their main advantages over conventional pesticides. In the case of viral diseases that cannot be controlled directly with pesticides, insecticides are used to control the vectors of viruses. However, the effectiveness of such treatments is strictly dependent on the time of application. The plant response to the application of systemic acquired resistance (SAR) inducers, as a result of the stimulating action of these substances, does not depend on the time of application as it triggers the plant's natural defence mechanism. The best-recognised substance showing SAR inducer activity is acibenzolar-S-methyl ester (ASM, BTH). As its activity against different plant pathogens of crops has been well documented, the current research is concentrated on the search for novel substances of the type. The tested substance, N-methoxy-N-methylbenzo(1,2,3)thiadiazole-7-carboxamide (BTHWA), is an amide derivative of benzothiadiazole, showing plant resistance-inducing activity. This article presents the activity of BTHWA that has led to increased resistance of zucchini (Cucurbita pepo convar. giromontiina) towards viral infections. In addition, since the occurrence of the fungal pathogen, powdery mildew, was also observed during the two-year field experiments, the activity of BTHWA related to the reduction of infection with this fungus was also investigated. The substance was applied in two different variants either four or eight times, over the whole vegetation season. Surprisingly, the variant of four applications performed at the beginning of the vegetation season proved more effective in protection against viruses and fungus. A possible explanation may be the occurrence of the growth-immunity trade-off phenomenon that is known in the literature. Disturbance in plant metabolism resulting from eight applications may lead to lower yields of plants treated with SAR inducers. Perhaps such overstimulation of the plants we treated eight times may not have brought the optimum increase in plant resistance.

ABSTRACT

Cleft lip and palate is one of the most common craniofacial anomalies of humans. A child born with cleft lip and palate may experience difficulties while feeding due to lack of seal of the oral cavity due to incomplete facial and palatal structures. Difficulty in feeding leads to inadequate nutrition and affects the health of the infant. Feeding difficulties should be assessed and intervened as early as possible, as they are an important aspect of the multidisciplinary team approach in the management of cleft lip and palate. Feeding appliance is a favorable feeding option in these infants as it creates a separation between oral and nasal cavities and thus helps in creating a negative intraoral pressure during suckling. This case report represents a fabrication of feeding appliance for a 2-day-old neonate born with cleft lip and palate, using copper wire as a retainer for the appliance.

ABSTRACT

Sirenomelia is a social curiosity, a medical and diagnostic challenge prenatally compounded by varied diagnostic difficulties. Prenatal diagnosis of sirenomelia was and continues to be a challenge although von klippel et al., described a case at 10 weeks of gestational age. However, they needed a second imaging at 12(th) week for confirmation. First trimester or early second trimester anatomic survey on ultrasound and MRI is accurate for the diagnosis thereby avoiding unnecessary complex pregnancy. We report a case of second trimester diagnosed sirenomelia, with detailed analysis of image findings on ultrasound and fetal MRI.

ABSTRACT

The aim of the article is to present a trend in patent filings for application of nanotechnology to the automobile sector across the world, using the keyword-based patent search. Overviews of the patents related to nano technology in the automobile industry have been provided. The current work has started from the worldwide patent search to find the patents on nanotechnology in the automobile industry and classify the patents according to the various parts of an automobile to which they are related and the solutions which they are providing. In the next step various graphs have been produced to get an insight into various trends. In next step, analysis of patents in various classifications, have been performed. The trends shown in graphs provide the quantitative analysis whereas; the qualitative analysis has been done in another section. The classifications of patents based on the solution they provide have been performed by reading the claims, titles, abstract and full texts separately. Patentability of nano technology inventions have been discussed in a view to give an idea of requirements and statutory bars to the patentability of nanotechnology inventions. Another objective of the current work is to suggest appropriate framework for the companies regarding use of nano technology in the automobile industry and a suggestive strategy for patenting of the inventions related to the same. For example, US Patent, with patent number US2008-019426A1 discusses the invention related to Lubricant composition. This patent has been studied and classified to fall under classification of automobile parts. After studying this patent, it is deduced that, the problem of friction in engine is being solved by this patent. One classification is the "automobile part" based while other is the basis of "problem being solved". Hence, two classifications, namely reduction in friction and engine were created. Similarly, after studying all the patents, a similar matrix has been created.
