ABSTRACT

The karyotype of 7 unilateral retinoblastomas was studied. Loss or a gain of chromosomes and structural chromosomal changes were observed in all tumors. Modal chromosome number was pseudodiploid in four and near-diploid in three tumors. There were no sex chromosomes (X or Y) in 3 tumors. Four tumors were characterized by the presence of an identical marker chromosome--i(6p). Two other markers--lp+ and 17q+ (probably, not quite identical)--were present in 4 and 3 tumors, respectively. The cells of two retinoblastomas contained both i (6p) and 17q+ markers.

ABSTRACT

Sarcomas were induced in radiation chimeras CBA/CBAT6T6 by subcutaneous implantation of plastic films 13 months after the irradiation and donor bone marrow transplantation. Of the 12 tumours examined, 11 possessed host kariotype and one--donor karyotype. Development of connective tissue cells from the bone marrow precursors presumably played no significant role in the histogenesis of plastic sarcomas.

ABSTRACT

Breeding behavior and fertility of the Djungarian hamster (D. h.) -- Phodopus sungorus campbelli Th-during 8 years (1966-1973) have shown that this hamster species is a suitable laboratory animal. The decline of breeding in winter months, observed in the first years of maintaining D. h. in our laboratory, became less pronounced in the last three years. D. h. seems to be resistant to common infections of laboratory animals. The only infection observed in D. h. was on outbreak of trichophytosis which was successfully liquidated. Spontaneous tumors developed in 130 of 1277 D. h. (10%). Mammary carcinoma, squamous cancer of the skin and lung tumors prevailed. In the recent years, the incidence of mammary carcinoma became higher, whereas the frequency of skin tumors was decreased.
