ABSTRACT

The rheologic blood properties were studied in patients with polycythemia vera (PV) before and after erythrocytapheresis. The patients with PV showed a complex of hemorheologic disorders (high blood viscosity at different rates of deviation, intensified red blood cell aggregation, decreased deformability of these cells) found to be implicated in the disease pathogenesis. Erythrocytapheresis promoted the improvement of the rheologic characteristics such as dynamic blood viscosity and the red blood cell aggregation ratio.

ABSTRACT

Comparative investigation of rats has been conducted to study rheologic blood properties during relative compensation and decompensation of the hemorrhagic, traumatic and burning shock. The most obvious hemorheologic disturbances have been revealed during a burning shock and feebly marked-during a hemorrhagic shock.

ABSTRACT

Plasmapheresis on a Soviet-made PF-0.5 blood cell separator was performed in 20 PPH patients (altogether 33 sessions of plasmapheresis). 1600 to 3300 ml of plasma were removed during one session. Rheopolyglucin was mainly used as plasma-substituting liquid. The procedure was well tolerated by all the patients. After plasmapheresis biochemical indices were within normal. In multiple myeloma paraprotein was decreased by 42%. Waldenström's macroglobulinemia by 47%. Plasma viscosity was decreased 1.2- and 2-fold, respectively. The investigations showed a high efficacy and reliability of plasmapheresis with the help of the Soviet-made PF-0.5.

ABSTRACT

During fractionation of the rabbit leukocytic pyrogen (LP) on Sephadex column and by the ethanol method, the apyrogenic protein fraction was isolated. In intact rats this fraction induced granulocytopoiesis stimulation: a rise in granulocyte proliferative activity, an increase in total granulocyte count in the bone marrow and peripheral blood, and also a rise in the number of macrocolonies in the spleen of lethally irradiated mice due to an increase in granulocyte colonies.

ABSTRACT

Blood serum leukopoietic activity after the injection to intact Wistar rats of products of 12 and 60 million homologous granulocytes lysis per 100 g of animal body weight, and the character of the serum action on the proliferation and differentiation of stem hematopoietic cells in the spleen of lethally irradiated mice were studied. Accumulation in the blood of granulocytopoietins resulting from the action of the products of granulocytes lysis was noted. Granulocytopoietins stimulated the proliferating activity of stem cells and their differentiation into granulocytes in the spleen of the lethally irradiated mice. A conclusion was drawn on the stimulating action of granulocyte lysis products on the hemopoiesis through the granulocytopoietins.

ABSTRACT

Fractionation of leukocyte pyrogen on a column of Sephadex G-75 made it possible to obtain separately the fraction stimulating the hemopoiesis and the fraction possessing the pyrogenic activity and inhibiting the hemopoiesis. Judging by the elution profile of Sephadex column G-75, substances of high molecular weight produced a stimulating action, and of low molecular weight--pyrogenic and inhibitory action. Possibly pyrogenic and inhibitory activities are connected with different substances. The nature of the inhibitory factor requires further investigation. It may be supposed that it is a substance of chalone type.
