ABSTRACT

In series of 248 gastric carcinomas from surgical resections the occurence of argyrophil and argentaffin cells was studied. These cells were distinctly more frequent in diffuse than in tubular carcinomas. In all cases with both types of APUD-cells, argyrophil cells were more numerous than argentaffin cells. These tumors are considered to be a variant of current gastric carcinoma, with more pronounced APUD-differentiation of neoplastic cells. This variant stands apart from carcinoid tumors and also from those rare nasal adenocarcinomas with argentaffin cells.

ABSTRACT

A case of sclerosing lipogranuloma (with oil pseudocysts) in a 38-year old woman is described. The disease started at the age of 16 as extensive foci with local inflammatory manifestations on the legs. Later on, it took the form of relapsing disseminations of tiny fibrous nodules with no inflammatory manifestations. Judging from literary data and his own observations, the author describes sclerotizing lipogranuloma as an independent pathological involvement of the subcutis quite distinct from histologically identical lesions caused by exogenous lipids (paraffinomas).

ABSTRACT

The fatty crystals in three previously published cases of sclerema neonatorum were identified by means of x-ray diffraction as sodium stearate and palmitic acid. A composite view of the pathogenesis of both sclerema neonatorum and adiponecrosis cutis neonatorum is discussed.
