ABSTRACT

Aim To investigate the role of metabolites of eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) in promoting the transdifferentiation of pancreatic α cells to β cells. Methods Male C57BL/6J mice were injected intraperitoneally with 60 mg/kg streptozocin (STZ) for five consecutive days to establish a type 1 diabetes (T1DM) mouse model. After two weeks, they were randomly divided into model groups and 97% EPA diet intervention group, 75% fish oil (50% EPA +25% DHA) diet intervention group, and random blood glucose was detected every week; after the model expired, the regeneration of pancreatic β cells in mouse pancreas was observed by immunofluorescence staining. The islets of mice (obtained by crossing GCG

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE: To explore the feasibility of navigation-guided sinus endoscopy to remove the cavernous vascular malformation of the orbital apex through the sphenoid approach. METHODS: A retrospective series of non-control cases were collected. From May 2012 to December 2019, patients with imaging findings of cavernous venous malformation in the orbital apex were collected at the Eye Hospital Affiliated to Nanchang University. All patients underwent navigation guided sinusoscopy through the sphenoid approach to remove the cavernous venous malformation of the orbital apex. Analyze the changes of visual function and postoperative complications before and after operation. RESULTS: Twelve patients were collected, including 3 males and 9 females aged between 32 and 59. In 3 patients without visual impairment, the postoperative visual function was still normal. The remaining 9 patients all had visual impairment. Among them, 3 patients had fully recovered normal visual function after operation, 2 patients had improved visual function compared with preoperative, and 4 patients had no change in postoperative visual acuity. There were no complications in 3 of the 12 patients, and 9 patients had transient limited intraocular rotation with mild limitation of diplopia after operation, and all returned to normal within 1 month after surgery. CONCLUSION: Navigation-guided sinus endoscopy through the sphenoid approach to remove the cavernous venous malformation of the orbital apex is an effective and feasible surgical method.

ABSTRACT

AIM: To evaluate the effect of He-Ne laser combined with TDP irradiation in the treatment of herpes zoster ophthalmicus.METHODS: Totally 22 patients (22 eyes) with herpes zoster ophthalmicus were treated by He-Ne laser irradiation combined with TDP (Group A).Another 22 patients (22 eyes) with herpes zoster ophthalmicus (Group B) were treated by medication. The duration of the disease, the incidence of complications, and the time of pain relief were compared between the two groups.RESULTS: The cure rate of Group A was 91%, that of Group B was 73%, there was no significant difference between the two groups (x2=1.375, P>0.05).The average cure time of Group A was 8±2.22d, Group B was 12±1.88d, the difference between the two groups was statistically significant (t=5.22, P<0.05).The complication rate of Group A was 18%, Group B was 59%, the difference between the two groups was statistically significant (x2=6.86, P<0.05).The average pain relief time of Group A was 5±1.23d, Group B was 10±1.34d, the difference between the two groups was statistically significant (t=11.17, P<0.05).CONCLUSION: He-Ne laser combined with TDP irradiation can shorten the treatment time of herpes zoster ophthalmicus, shorten the course of disease, reduce the incidence of complications, relieve pain, with no significant effect on the cure rate of herpes zoster ophthalmicus.

ABSTRACT

To observe synergistic effects of 999 Ganmaoling (GML) and its Chinese/Western materia medica (CMM and WMM) on pharmacodynamic action and to study underlying mechanisms, their anti-inflammatory, antipyretic effects were compared by assaying the increased capillary permeability induced by glacial acetic acid in mice, ear swelling induced by Xylene in mice, non-specific pleurisy induced by carrageenan in rats, and yeast induced fever in rats. Crystal violet (CV) and microbial activity (XTT) assay were used to evaluate the inhibition of GML and its CMM and WMM on KPN biofilm formation, and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) was applied for observing KPN biofilm morphology changes. The results showed that compared with control group, GML could reduce exudation amount of Evans-Blue and the degree of Ear swelling significantly, and CMM and WMM have no significant effects. The concentration of TNF-α and IL-1β of rat pleural effusion in GML, CMM and WMM group decreased significantly. The concentration of TNF-α, IL-1β and IL-8 in GML group, TNF-α, IL-8 in WMM group and IL-8 in CMM in rats serum decreased significantly. The body temperature in rats decreased significantly in GML and WMM group after 4-8 h of administration. CMM group showed no significant difference in rat body temperature compare with control. Compared with control group, GML (55-13.75 g•L⁻¹) could inhibit KPN biofilm formation and reduce number of viable cells in the KPN biofilm. CMM (45-22.5 g•L⁻¹) and WMM (10 g•L⁻¹) could also inhibit KPN biofilm formation and reduce number of viable cells (P<0.01). Result of SEM also showed that GML (55 g•L⁻¹) and its CMM (45 g•L⁻¹) and WMM (10 g•L⁻¹) could interfere the bacterial arrangement of KPN biofilm and extracellular matrix. GML and its CMM & WMM could inhibit the formation of KPN biofilm, CMM & WMM in GML showed synergism and complementation in inhibit KPN biofilm. Results showed that GML had obvious anti-inflammatory and antipyretic effects and could destruct KPN mature biofilm. WMM and CMM showed obvious synergistic effect against inflammation and inhibition of KPN biofilm formation and reduction of number of viable cells but no same effects against fever.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE: To compare contrast-enhanced ultrasound and contrast-enhanced magnetic resonance imaging for the assessment of vascularization of hydroxyapatite orbital implants. METHODS: Ten patients who underwent monthly contrast-enhanced ultrasound and contrast-enhanced magnetic resonance imaging following implantation were analyzed. The two modalities were compared according to their ability to visualize the progress of vascularization at monthly intervals. RESULTS: There were no differences in the findings shown by these two methods. Contrast-enhanced ultrasound provided better visualization of the dynamic process of vascularization than contrast-enhanced magnetic resonance imaging. There were no significant differences in the areas and the time to completion of fibrovascular ingrowth observed by contrast-enhanced ultrasound and contrast-enhanced magnetic resonance imaging, indicating that the findings of these two examinations were consistently similar. CONCLUSIONS: Contrast-enhanced ultrasound is useful for the assessment of vascularization of hydroxyapatite orbital implants and provides better visualization of the dynamic process than contrast-enhanced MRI.

ABSTRACT

AIM:To compare the operation effect of 2. 2mm micro incision and 3. 0mm incision coaxial phacoemulsification. METHODS: Patients with age - related cataract ( 90 cases, 90 eyes) were enrolled in the study from January 2012 to June 2013 in our hospital, and they were randomly divided into 2 groups:2. 2mm incision group (45 eyes of 45 cases), 3.0mm incision group (45 eyes of 45 cases). Corneal tunnel incision coaxial phacoemulsification was performed. At 1d, 1wk, 1, 3mo after operation, the visual acuity, corneal endothelial cell count, central corneal thickness, operation astigmatism were recorded. RESULTS:One day after operation, the visual acuity of 2. 2mm incision group were significantly improved, the difference was statistically significant ( P0. 05). Operation source astigmatism had statistically significant difference at 1d, 1wk, 1, 3mo after operation ( PCONCLUSION: The 2. 2mm small incision coaxial phacoemulsification with postoperative visual acuity improved more significantly, can significantly reduce the operation astigmatism.
