ABSTRACT

In this paper, two aspects of studies are carried out: (1) synthesis of geopolymer by using slag and metakaolin; (2) immobilization behaviors of slag based geopolymer in a presence of Pb and Cu ions. As for the synthesis of slag based geopolymer, four different slag content (10%, 30%, 50%, 70%) and three types of curing regimes (standard curing, steam curing and autoclave curing) are investigated to obtain the optimum synthesis condition based on the compressive and flexural strength. The testing results showed that geopolymer mortar containing 50% slag that is synthesized at steam curing (80 degrees C for 8h), exhibits higher mechanical strengths. The compressive and flexural strengths of slag based geopolymer mortar are 75.2 MPa and 10.1 MPa, respectively. Additionally, Infrared (IR), X-ray diffraction (XRD) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) techniques are used to characterize the microstructure of the slag based geopolymer paste. IR spectra show that the absorptive band at 1086 cm(-1) shifts to lower wave number around 1007 cm(-1), and some six-coordinated Als transforms into four-coordination during the synthesis of slag based geopolymer paste. The resulting slag based geopolymeric products are X-ray amorphous materials. SEM observation shows that it is possible to have geopolymeric gel and calcium silicate hydrate (C-S-H) gel forming simultaneously within slag based geopolymer paste. As for immobilization of heavy metals, the leaching tests are employed to investigate the immobilization behaviors of the slag based geopolymer mortar synthesized under the above optimum condition. The leaching tests show that slag based geopolymer mortar can effectively immobilize Cu and Pb heavy metal ions, and the immobilization efficiency reach 98.5% greater when heavy metals are incorporated in the slag geopolymeric matrix in the range of 0.1-0.3%. The Pb exhibits better immobilization efficiency than the Cu in the case of large dosages of heavy metals.

ABSTRACT

Objective To evaluate clinical therapeutic efficacy and adverse effecacy of transcatheter arterial chemoembolization(TACE)combined with radiofrequency capacitive heating(RCH) for metastatic hepatic carcinoma(MHC). Methods Thirty-nine cases of MHC were enrolled in this study and divided into two groups: study group(n = 19)and control group(n = 20). Before therapy, the Karnofsky's score of the patients was all beyond 60. Results The carcinoma growth rate of the study group was -(0.38 ? 0.22), while that of the control group was -(0.13 ? 0.25), showing significant statistical difference(P 0.05). Conclusion The therapeutic effect of MHC can be further improved by the treatment of TACE combined with radiofrequency capacitive heating without increase of adverse side effects.

ABSTRACT

The main acupoints Huantiao (GB 30) and Juliao (GB 29), combined with the adjunct acupoints according to the pain characteristic, were punctured, after arrival of qi, needle warming therapy was performed, and then Tuina therapy was applied after the removal of needles. Among 72 cases of sciatica treated by these therapies, 53 cases were cured, 13 cases were remarkably improved, 4 cases were effective, and 2 cases got no effect, with the total effective rate being 97.2%.

ABSTRACT

Seventy-three cases of cervical spondylosis were treated with cervico-occipital traction belt. During the conduction of traction, acupoimts Bailao (Ex-HN), Fengchi (GB 20),Tianzhu (BL 10), Jianjing (GB 21), Tianzong (SI 11) and Shousanli (LI 10) were needled. When needling sensation arrived, moxibustion was at the same time given by igniting moxa around the needles. After two-course treatment, 60 cases got clinical cure, 8 cases got marked effectiveness, 2 cases got effectiveness and 3 cases failed, the total effective rate being 95.9%.

ABSTRACT

Objective To assess the value of 16-slice spiral CT perfusion in the diagnosis of hyperacute cerebral infarction. Methods Routine and perfusion CT of brain were performed in 20 cases suspected with hyperacute cerebral stroke within 6 hours of symptom onset, the images of plain scan,rCBV,rCBF,MTT and TTP were observed and evaluated. All cases were followed-up with CT after one week. Results Ischemic lesions were found in routine CT in 5 cases,15 cases had negative results at routine CT, and ischemic lesions were showed in all of them by perfusion CT images.rCBV,rCBF distinctly decreased, MTT and TTP obviously prolonged in infarction area, and rCBF decreased, MTT and TTP prolonged and rCBV was normal or up lightly in the penumbra area. The infarction lesions were detected in 15 cases by follow-up CT.Conclusion 16-slice spiral CT perfusion in diagnosis of hyperacute cerebral infarction may be a valuable tool in predicting clinical prognosis.
