ABSTRACT

Sulfuration reactions dominate the synthesis of transition-metal dichalcogenides via chemical vapor deposition. A neglected critical issue is the evolution of crystal domain morphology and growth models caused by boundary layer development. In this study, we propose two growth models within a laminar flow field to investigate the kinetic mechanism of uniformly grown MoS2. We used supercritical fluid pre-deposition to obtain a well-distributed and low-crystallinity Mo precursor on the surface of a substrate to avoid non-stoichiometric supply in sulfuration. The development of the boundary layer was suppressed through mainstream force by adjusting the substrate slope angle. For growth within the underdeveloped laminar boundary layer, monolayer MoS2 with a size of 50 µm uniformly distributed on the full substrate with R = 85% (relative change in boundary layer thickness). Moreover, the growth constrained by surface chemical reactions tended to promote spatially uniform growth. However, within the fully developed laminar flow, the crystal domains preferentially grew vertically, which was attributed to the excessive crystal growth rate (g). Our results provide new insights into the controllable preparation of two-dimensional materials.

ABSTRACT

Adenovirus pneumonia is common in pediatric upper respiratory tract infection, which is comparatively easy to develop into severe cases and has a high mortality rate with many influential sequelae. As for pathogenesis, adenoviruses can directly damage target cells and activate the immune response to varying degrees. Early clinical recognition depends on patients' symptoms and laboratory tests, including those under 2 years old, dyspnea with systemic toxic symptoms, atelectasis or emphysema in CT image, decreased leukocytes, and significantly increased C-reaction protein (CRP) and procalcitonin (PCT), indicating the possibility of severe cases. Until now, there is no specific drug for adenovirus pneumonia, so in clinical practice, current treatment comprises antiviral drugs, respiratory support and bronchoscopy, immunomodulatory therapy, and blood purification. Additionally, post-infectious bronchiolitis obliterans (PIBO), hemophagocytic syndrome, and death should be carefully noted. Independent risk factors associated with the development of PIBO are invasive mechanical ventilation, intravenous steroid use, duration of fever, and male gender. Meanwhile, hypoxemia, hypercapnia, invasive mechanical ventilation, and low serum albumin levels are related to death. Among these, viral load and serological identification are not only "gold standard" for adenovirus pneumonia, but are also related to the severity and prognosis. Here, we discuss the progress of pathogenesis, early recognition, therapy, and risk factors for poor outcomes regarding severe pediatric adenovirus pneumonia.

BACKGROUND: No gold standard currently exists for the diagnosis of general paresis (GP), thus often resulting in unnecessarily delayed therapeutic decision. METHODS: A retrospective chart review was performed for 85 inpatients with GP in Zhongshan Hospital, Medical College of Xiamen University, and the characteristics of their clinical profiles, serum and cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) examinations, neuroimaging examination, and electroencephalogram (EEG) data were analyzed. RESULTS: Among the 85 GP patients, the clinical symptoms that were frequently observed upon admission included a variety of psychiatric-behavioral symptoms and varying degrees of cognitive impairment. All of the patients had positive serum Treponema pallidum particle agglutination (TPPA) assays, 96.47% of the patients had positive CSF TPPA assays, and 41.18% of the patients had both CSF pleocytosis and elevated CSF protein levels. Focal atrophy in one cerebral region or in multiple regions was evident in neuroimages. The EEG data primarily showed slightly abnormal EEG activity. CONCLUSION: These results demonstrate the complexity of the clinical characteristics of GP and highlight the importance of early diagnosis.

ABSTRACT

We developed a new Boson chemiluminescence immunoassay (CIA) and evaluated its application with cross-sectional analyses. Our results indicated that the Boson CIA demonstrated strong discriminatory power in diagnosing syphilis and that it can be used as a first-line screening test for syphilis serodiagnosis using the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control algorithm or as a confirmatory test when combined with a patient's clinical history.
