ABSTRACT

In this work, a convenient ratiometric fluorescent platform was designed to measure organophosphorus pesticides (OPs) based on acetylcholinesterase (AChE), acetylthiocholine (ATCh), manganese dioxide nanosheets (MnO2), near-infrared carbon dots (RCDs) and o-phenylenediamine (OPD). In this platform, a direct oxidation of OPD by MnO2 generated the luminescent product 2,3-diaminophenolazine (DAP) through intrinsic oxidase activity, while RCDs served as a fluorescent reference indicator. In the presence of AChE and ATCh, the enzymatic hydrolysate thiocholine (TCh) would reduce MnO2 nanosheets to Mn2+, leading to the quenching of DAP fluorescence. On the other hand, OPs can inhibit the catabolism of ATCh by AChE thus acting as a recognizer of OPs. According to these reactions, OPs were quantitatively analyzed by the intensity ratio of fluorescence emitted from RCDs and DAP (F560/F676). The constructed platform can detect OPs with the range of 0.2-0.6 µM with a detection limit of 4.3 nM. Figure A ratiometric fluorescent probe based on carbon dots was obtained and using it to determine the concentration of organophosphorus pesticides.

ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND: Hypertension is one of the most vital risk factors for cardiovascular diseases, so we wanted to explore the impact of the interaction between occupational stress and smoking, alcohol drinking and BMI on hypertension in Chinese petrochemical workers. METHODS: A total of 1488 employees participated. Questionnaires included the value of blood pressure, occupational stress (assessed by the effort-reward imbalance scale), demographic factors and work conditions. Multivariable logistic regression was used to explore related factors, and the interactions between occupational stress and smoking, alcohol drinking and BMI on hypertension were analyzed using an additive model. RESULTS: The prevalence of hypertension was 34.3%. Age ≥ 56 (OR = 3.19, 95%CI: 1.841-5.526), male (OR = 1.436, 95%CI: 1.056-1.954), BMI ≥ 25 (OR = 1.86, 95%CI: 1.468-2.346), smoking (OR = 1.52, 95%CI: 1.191-1.951) and alcohol drinking (OR = 1.53, 95%CI: 1.180-1.972), ERI > 1 (OR = 1.50, 95%CI: 1.133-1.960) are risk factors for hypertension, and a higher education level (OR = 0.57, 95%CI: 0.438-0.754) is a protective factor against hypertension. Positive interactions existed between occupational stress and smoking (RERI = 2.134, AP = 0.328, S = 1.635), alcohol drinking (RERI = 2.332, AP = 0.361, S = 1.746) and BMI (RERI = 1.841, AP = 0.340, S = 1.717) on hypertension in petrochemical workers. CONCLUSIONS: Age, gender, educational level, BMI, smoking, alcohol drinking and occupational stress are closely related to the risk of hypertension. There are also positive interactions between occupational stress and alcohol drinking, smoking and BMI, which have a certain impact on hypertension.

ABSTRACT

Problematic smartphone use (PSU) is a novel manifestation of addictive behaviors. It is frequently reported to be correlated with anxiety symptoms among University students. However, the underlying mechanism has not yet been thoroughly studied. Whether the association between anxiety symptoms and PSU is mediated or moderated by self-efficacy remains unclarified. A cluster sampling cross-sectional study was thus conducted to explore the potential mediating or moderating effect of self-efficacy in Chinese University students. Participants (N = 1,113) were recruited from eight Universities in Shenyang, China. Of them, 146 did not effectively respond to the questionnaires. Thus, 967 participants were eligible for the final analysis. The mediating or moderating role of self-efficacy in the anxiety-PSU relationship was explored using hierarchical multiple regression. Then the mediation model was further verified using the SPSS macros program (PROCESS v3.0). Our results showed that anxiety symptoms was positively correlated with PSU (r = 0.302, P < 0.01), while self-efficacy was negatively correlated with anxiety symptoms and PSU (r = -0.271 and -0.181, P < 0.01). Self-efficacy partly mediated the relationship between anxiety symptoms and PSU, which accounted for ~17.5% of the total effect that anxiety symptoms have on PSU. However, the moderating effect of self-efficacy on the anxiety-PSU relationship was insignificant. In summary, our findings suggested that self-efficacy partly mediates but not moderates the link between anxiety symptoms and PSU among Chinese University students. Therefore, multicomponent interventions should be made to restrict the frequency of smartphone usage, enhance the level of self-efficacy, and thus promote the mental health status of University students.

ABSTRACT

The design of ratiometric probes for imaging of carbon monoxide (CO) in subcellular organelles is critical to elucidate its biological and pathological functions. In this work, we establish a ratiometric fluorescent probe (Mito-NIB-CO) for imaging of CO in mitochondria. The mitochondria-targeting unit (triphenylphosphonium moiety) and CO-responsive unit (allyl ether moiety) are covalently linking into the single molecule (Mito-NIB-CO) to achieve the multifunctional effect. Upon being treated with CO, Mito-NIB-CO underwent the cleavage of allyl ether element in the presence of PdCl2, resulting in the structural and spectral conversion. This characteristic afforded Mito-NIB-CO to be a ratiometric probe for CO with two fluorescent emission bands. Additionally, the probe Mito-NIB-CO exhibited other distinct merits, including preeminent selectivity and sensitivity. What's more, profiting from triphenylphosphonium moiety, the probe Mito-NIB-CO can specifically target the mitochondria and realize quantitative detection of exogenous/endogenous CO in mitochondria. ABSTRACT

PURPOSE: Fatigue undermines nurses' well-being and work performance worldwide. Work stress is a critical factor that causes nurses' fatigue, but the solutions are not well known. This study aimed to identify the moderated mediation model of fatigue involving effort-reward imbalance (ERI), resilience and perceived organizational support (POS) in Chinese nurses. METHODS: In a cross-sectional investigation conducted in Liaoning Province of China, 996 nurses completed the self-administered measurements of fatigue, ERI, resilience and POS. Moderated mediation was tested using the PROCESS procedure. The "pick-a-point" method was adopted to assess conditional effect on fatigue. RESULTS: The indirect effect of ERI on fatigue through resilience was significant (a×b = 0.119, BCa 95% CI: 0.094 to 0.146), indicating a partial mediation of resilience. POS moderated the association of resilience with fatigue (ß = -0.056, p = 0.006). The higher the level of POS was, the stronger the resilience-fatigue association became. Thus, the mediating role of resilience in the ERI-fatigue association was gradually increased with the increase of POS level (low POS: 0.073; moderate POS: 0.095; high POS: 0.116). CONCLUSION: Resilience could partially mediate the ERI-fatigue association. POS could act as a moderator that enhanced the association of resilience with fatigue. A moderated mediation model of fatigue was demonstrated in Chinese nurses. Managers should establish a balanced social reciprocity, and improve nurses' resilience and POS in order to decrease nurses' fatigue.
