ABSTRACT

Volatile organic compound (VOCs) emissions from poultry and livestock facilities affect the surrounding environmental quality and human health. However, VOCs emissions from broiler houses have been less characterized, and studies of related dominant odorants, carcinogenic risk, and ozone formation potential are still lacking. To fill this research gap, VOCs pollutants emitted from a broiler house were investigated in this study. The VOCs emission characteristics of the broiler house during three different periods of broiler growth (early, middle, and later) were analyzed using gas chromatography-mass spectrometry. The results showed that 77 types of VOCs were detected, including 16 types of halogenated hydrocarbons, 21 types of alkanes, 5 types of olefins, 12 types of aromatic hydrocarbons, 15 types of oxygenated volatile organic compounds (OVOCs), and 8 types of sulfides. During the entire 42-day growth period, the concentrations of halogenated hydrocarbons, alkanes, olefin, aromatic hydrocarbons, and OVOCs in the broiler house showed few changes. However, with the growth of broilers, the intake of sulfur-containing amino acids and the fecal emission coefficient increased, resulting in the gradual conversion of the VOCs to sulfide. Therefore, emissions of sulfur-containing VOCs increased in the early and middle growth periods. Moreover, the increase in ventilation in the house during the later growth period resulted in a decrease in the sulfur-containing VOCs concentrations. The dominant odorants in the broiler house were naphthalene, ethyl acetate, acetaldehyde, carbon disulfide, dimethyl disulfide, methanethiol, methanethiol, and thiophene. Methanethiol had the highest odorous values, ranging from 2172.4 to 19090.9. Meanwhile, there were acceptable levels of carcinogenic risk in the early and middle growth periods, with a lifetime cancer risk (LCR) of 7.7×10-6 and 4.5×10-6, respectively. The average ozone formation potential (OFP) was (1458.9±787.4) µg·m-3. The results of this study can provide a scientific basis for the monitoring of malodorous substances and formulation of emission reduction strategies in broiler production.

ABSTRACT

To investigate the effect of dexmedetomidine (DEX) on hemodynamics and recovery period after femoral shaft fracture surgery. Fifty-two patients, aged 3 to 7 years, who underwent femoral shaft fracture reduction surgery in our hospital in 2019 were randomly divided into the experimental group (n = 26) and the control group (n = 26). Both groups were given routine propofol combined with remifentanil by intravenous anesthesia. The experimental group was continuously pumped with DEX after induction of anesthesia, while the control group was continuously pumped with the same volume of normal saline. The mean arterial pressure (MAP) and heart rate (HR) were recorded before anesthesia induction (T0), when laryngeal mask was inserted (T1), when skin was cut (T2), when intramedullary needle was inserted (T3), and when laryngeal mask was removed (T4). Extubation time after anesthesia withdrawal was recorded in the 2 groups. According to the Pediatric Anesthesia Emergence Delirium score, the agitation and the incidence of agitation were recorded immediately after extubation (T5), 10 minutes after entering the recovery room (T6) and 30 minutes after entering the recovery room (T7). There was no significant difference in MAP and HR between the 2 groups at T0 and T1 time points (P > .05). The MAP and HR of the experimental group at T2 to T4 were significantly lower than those of the control group (P < .05). The extubation time of the experimental group was longer than that of the control group (P < .05), but the Pediatric Anesthesia Emergence Delirium score and the incidence of agitation in the recovery period of the experimental group were lower than those of the control group (P < .05). In femoral shaft fracture surgery, intravenous anesthesia combined with continuous pumping DEX can effectively stabilize the hemodynamics of patients, and the incidence of postoperative agitation during anesthesia recovery is low.

ABSTRACT

From May 2009 to February 2012, five patients with traumatic lower limb arteriovenous fistula were admitted in our department .Four patients underwent endovascular stent grafting , and one patient was given fistula indwelling , deep femoral artery-superficial femoral artery end to side anastomosis , and femoral artery-superficial femoral artery artificial vescular grafting .Four patients were cured, which were followed for 3, 5, 3, and 3 years, respectively, without recurrence.One patient with endovascular stent grafting failed to isolate the fistula effectively and a second stent grafting failed , too.Endovascular stent grafting is an effective method in the treatment of fistula, with less bleeding, small trauma, and rapid recovery.By using the technology of through the hillsto isolate limb fistula, the covered stent might not be released when the fistula is located at low position and at the same time the left iliac artery bifurcation angle is small .

ABSTRACT

RecA family recombinases play essential roles in maintaining genome integrity. A group of RecA-like proteins named RadC are present in all archaea, but their in vivo functions remain unclear. In this study, we performed phylogenetic and genetic analysis of two RadC proteins from Sulfolobus islandicus. RadC is closer to the KaiC lineage of cyanobacteria and proteobacteria than to the lineage of the recombinases (RecA, RadA, and Rad51) and the recombinase paralogs (e.g., RadB, Rad55, and Rad51B). Using the recently-established S. islandicus genetic system, we constructed deletion and over-expression strains of radC1 and radC2. Deletion of radC1 rendered the cells more sensitive to DNA damaging agents, methyl methanesulfonate (MMS), hydroxyurea (HU), and ultraviolet (UV) radiation, than the wild type, and a ΔradC1ΔradC2 double deletion strain was more sensitive to cisplatin and MMS than the ΔradC1 single deletion mutant. In addition, ectopic expression of His-tagged RadC1 revealed that RadC1 was co-purified with a putative structure-specific nuclease and ATPase, which is highly conserved in archaea. Our results indicate that both RadC1 and RadC2 are involved in DNA repair. RadC1 may play a general or primary role in DNA repair, while RadC2 plays a role in DNA repair in response to specific DNA damages.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE: To discuss the practicability of detecting epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) mutations in plasma circulating DNA of lung cancer patients by high-resolution melting (HRM). METHODS: The sensitivity of HRM was analyzed by the detection of samples containing different proportions of EGFR-mutated plasmids. The mutations in exons 19 and 21 of EGFR were detected by HRM in 96 lung cancer patients from September 2009 to May 2010. And the results of HRM were compared with those of sequencing. RESULTS: The HRM detection could identify the EGFR mutations in a proportion of 5% of mutated plasmid DNA. And the EGFR mutations were detected in 17 (17.7%, 17/96) cases. Among which, the number of exons 19 and 21 mutations was 15 (88.2%, 15/17) and 2 (11.8%, 2/17) respectively. The results of sequencing were consistent. CONCLUSION: The HRM analysis may be an optimal method for clinical screening of EGFR mutation due to its simplicity and promptness with a high sensitivity.

ABSTRACT

Objective To investigate the value of ultrasound integrated backscatter (IBS) in quantitative analysis of in-traluminal thrombus in abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA).Methods IBS of intraluminal thrombus in 29 patients were measured,including All (average image intensity) and SDI (standard deviation of image intensity).Meanwhile,different echoes and characteristics of IBS in thrombus were compared and pathologic analysis was performed.Results ①Individual All value of homogenous thrombus differed remarkably,SDI value was low.There was no significant difference about All in homogeneous group and adjacent cavity group (P>0.05).All and SDI value in adjacent wall group were higher than those in other groups (P<0.01).②According to pathologic analysis,cellulose contents were abundant in adjacent wall group,but fewer in adjacent cavity group and homogeneous group.Conclusion IBS might be regarded as a sensitive and specific method and a quantitative basis for estimating and predicting the rupture risk of AAA.

ABSTRACT

The nonlinear finite element method is used to analyze the geometrical nonlinear stability of cable-truss domes with different cable distributions. The results indicate that the critical load increases evidently when cables, especially diagonal cables, are distributed in the structure. The critical loads of the structure at different rise-span ratios are also discussed in this paper. It was shown that the effect of the tensional cable is more evident at small rise-span ratio. The buckling of the structure is characterized by a global collapse at small rise-span ratio; that the torsional buckling of the radial truss occurs at big rise-span ratio; and that at proper rise-span ratio, the global collapse and the lateral buckling of the truss occur nearly simultaneously.
