ABSTRACT

Twelve women with hydatidiform mole were studied between 12 and 20 weeks-gestation. The level of SP1 was determined by radioimmunologic method. The author found statistically significant increase of SP1 over 90th percentile of gestational age (p less than 0.001). Examining the level of SP1 after evacuation of hydatidiform mole it was established that SP1 was eliminated more quickly than human chorionic gonadotropin (HCG) in urine during early pregnancy. Quite the contrary was discovered in women with advanced pregnancy, in whom the concentration of SP1 disappeared more slowly, while HCG was eliminated for a shorter time. The observed dissociation in elimination of SP1 and HCG showed that the combined examination of HCG and SP1 provided better information in the follow-up of women with trophoblastic disease. The author think that treatment of trophoblastic disease should continue till complete elimination both of HCG and SP1.

ABSTRACT

The authors carried out studies on 20 women with normal pregnancy between 38 and 40 weeks gestation. Hypoglycemia, induced by insulin, was provoked in 10 of them, but hyperglycemia--in the other 10 women. Maternal blood samples for glucose and SP1 were taken on 15,30 and 60 min as well as on 2, 6, 12, 24 and 48 h after the onset of the trial. It was established that hypoglycemia, induced by insulin, the mean values of SP1 in the maternal serum on 24th hour were considerably higher, but in the induced hyperglycemia the values of SP1 were higher on the 24th h than on 60 respectively 120 min after the beginning of glucose infusion. The authors found that between serum concentration of SP1 and carbohydrate metabolism of the mother existed interrelationship.

ABSTRACT

The author determined pregnancy specific beta 1-glycoprotein in 109 women with threatened early pregnancy as 32 of the women suffered from abortus imminens with several unsuccessful pregnancies in the past as well as 67 women with abortus incipiens with bleeding ex utero. The author established that 87% of women with abortus imminens and preserved pregnancies had values of beta 1-glycoprotein close to those of normal pregnancy for the respective gestational week. 93% of women with abortus incipiens preserved pregnancies till term, but the specific glycoprotein was with in normal ranges. Spontaneous abortion occurred in 7% of women with low values under the 10th percentile. The present study show that examination of pregnancy specific beta 1-glycoprotein in women with threatened early pregnancy is of prognostic significance for the outcome of pregnancy.
