ABSTRACT

Two new species of Gerridae, Amemboa latoae Jehamalar & Dash, new species and A. zetteli Jehamalar & Dash, new species, are described from India. Amemboa latoae is described from Meghalaya and can be recognised by the presence of the two setal tufts on the flexor region of the male fore femur and the slightly dilated midlateral region of the main part of the proctiger. Amemboa zetteli Jehamalar & Dash, new species, is described from Andaman Island and can be identified by the presence of the three setal tufts on the flexor region of the male fore femur; the rhombus-shaped main part of the proctiger of the male and the shape of the posterior region of the pygophore. Eleven species groups of Amemboa are also recognized in the present paper.

ABSTRACT

Six Indo-Pacific sponges are recorded for the first time from the Andaman and Nicobar Islands: Agelas ceylonica sensu Thomas, 1981, Axinella donnani (Bowerbank, 1873), Dragmacidon australe (Bergquist, 1970), Siphonodictyon maldiviense (Calcinai, Cerrano, Sarà Bavestrello, 2000), Clathrina clara Klautau Valentine, 2003 and Plakortis bergquistae Muricy, 2011. Among them, D. australe, S. maldiviense and P. bergquistae are indeed new records to India. These findings not only represent new additions to sponge fauna of India, but also highlight the importance of markedly overlooked sponge diversity of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.

ABSTRACT

Sudhanshu Dixit, Verónica N. Bulnes, and Chelladurai Raghunathan (2018) Acanthozoon alderi is an ovoid, medium-sized pseudocerotid. Body margin ruffled; pseudotentacles black and pointed, with white tips. Dorsal surface covered with papillae, except for the cerebral region. Background colour light brown, with marbled blackish pattern, middorsal black band with white blotches; black submarginal band and marginal white rim. This species was described from Borneo; however, no type specimen was designated or deposited in any museum by the author. Many nomenclature problems and misidentification have been encountered with this species (it has been identified as Acanthozoon sp. in many instances). Thus, it is necessary to designate a neotype to solve the problems of doubtful and confusing identities and maintain nomenclature stability. The present paper details internal anatomy for the first time and makes important observations about the nominal status of the genus.
