ABSTRACT

Background and aims: Intuitionistic fuzzy sets (IFS) theory is more powerful than classic fuzzy sets theory in handling uncertainty. A new approach for Failure Mode and Effect Analysis (FMEA) was developed based on IFS and group decision-making (known as IF-FMEA) for investigating Personal Fall Arrest System (PFAS). Method: FMEA parameters, including occurrence, consequence, and detection, were re-defined based on a seven-point linguistic scale. Each linguistic term was associated with an intuitionistic triangular fuzzy set. Opinions on the parameters were gathered from a panel of experts, integrated using the similarity aggregation method, and defuzzified utilizing the center of gravity approach. Results: Nine failure modes were identified and analyzed using both FMEA and IF-FMEA. The risk priority numbers (RPNs) and prioritization obtained from the two approaches were different, highlighting the importance of using IFS. The highest RPN was associated with the lanyard web failure, while the failure of the anchor D-ring had the least RPN. Detection score was higher for metal parts of the PFAS, suggesting that failures in these parts are harder to detect. Conclusion: In addition to being economical in terms of calculations, the proposed method was efficient in handling uncertainty. Different parts of a PFAS create different levels of risk.

ABSTRACT

This study aimed to model the relationship between job security and safety behavior with the moderating role of salary on the workers of the construction project of Qom (Iran) Subway. After determining the subjects of the study, the questionnaires on safety behavior and job security were completed by subjects. Also, the salary of the subjects was determined. Structural equation modeling used smart partial least squares software. The results revealed that job security had a direct and significant correlation with safety compliance, safety participation and safety behavior (p < 0.001). The salary as a moderator had a positive and significant effect on the relationship between job security and safety behavior (p < 0.05). Generally, it can be deduced that job security had a positive impact on safe behaviors, and the salary as a moderator enhanced this impact. To improve safety behavior in the workplace, employers should increase the job security of workers.

ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND: Human errors cause accidents in the workplace. Screening workers at employment can prevent future accidents from happening. Two important tools that can be helpful in screening are determining the emotional intelligence score and personality traits score of the workers. OBJECTIVE: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the relationship between emotional intelligence, personality traits and safety behaviors in metal industries workers. METHODS: This is a cross-sectional survey. Confirmatory factor analysis was performed to determine the relationship between the components of emotional intelligence, unsafe behaviors, and personality. To collect data for this study, Five-Factor Goldberg questionnaire, Bar-On Emotional questionnaire and Safety behavior questionnaire were used. The collected data were entered into software (SPSS version 22) and refined. RESULTS: The results of this study showed that there was a significant positive correlation between personality traits, emotional intelligence and safe behaviors (p-value = 0.000). The confirmatory factor analysis showed that personality traits influence safe behaviours. Also, studies have shown that emotional intelligence has a positive effect on safe behaviours. The amount indicators of goodness of fit (GFI), Comparative Fit index (CFI), Tucker-Lewis index (TLI) and root mean square error approximation (RMSEA) were 0.944, 0.970, 0.965 and 0.061, respectively. CONCLUSIONS: The results of this study suggest that personality traits and emotional intelligence influence safe behaviours in the workplace. Employers can use these two tools in the employment phase and prevent future human-related accidents.

ABSTRACT

The purpose of the study was to understand the mechanism of microstructural changes in vegetable-based meat analogs coated with different batter formulations. A meat analog (substrate) was developed by using vegetable proteins, coated with batters formulated from different combinations of wheat and rice flours, predried at various durations, and subsequently fried. The effect of batter formulation, predrying time, and frying time on spaces occupied by air (porosity, SOA), moisture (SOM), and fat (SOF) in the core region (the meat analog) was studied. The SOA, SOM, and SOF ranged between 8.28-32.72%, 16.73-58.31%, and 16.73-58.31%, respectively. All three fractions of pores in the meat analog were significantly influenced by predrying and frying times; however, batter formulation did not show any significant influence. Batter formulation did not show any significant influence on moisture and fat content within the meat analog. Fat content was not influenced by frying time; and only 90 min predrying made a difference.

ABSTRACT

The effect of different concentrations of sugar solution (hypertonic) (30%, 45% and 60% w/v) and carboxyl methyl cellulose (CMC) (0%, 1% and 2% w/v) coating on freeze drying of apple slices was studied. In total, nine treatments with respect to concentrations of hypertonic solution and coating layer were prepared to analyze their influence on the physical and chemical properties of freeze dried apple slices. It was observed that increase in the sugar solution concentration, decreased the moisture content of the apple slices significantly impacting its water activity, texture and sugar gain. Application of different concentrations of CMC coating had no significant effect on the properties of dried apple slices. A significant change was observed for color of CMC coated freeze dried apple slices pretreated with 60% sugar solution. Drying kinetics of pretreated apple slices were fitted by using two drying models, Newton's and Page's. Page's model showed higher R-square and lower root mean square error (RSME) compared to Newton's model.
