ABSTRACT

Background: Globalization trends have compelled multinational companies to change their marketing approach from multi-domestic marketing to global marketing. This strategy has had a major impact on the branding of companies. Due to these efforts by international companies, there has been a negative impact on local brands. Strong local brands always maintained the advantage of a high level of awareness among consumers, due to consumers' close relationship with these brands, hence this resulted in strong and positive marketing investments in the home market. The purpose of this research is to evaluate the attitudinal dispositions towards global and local brands and purchase intention. The objective is to understand the underlying motives of consumers' purchase decision. Methods: Consumer disposition and attitude towards brands are evaluated based on respondents' purchase intention of a select brand. Data are collected from Bangalore and Chennai using the convenience sampling method. Evaluation of the measurement model was performed using the Smart PLS 4 software. Results: Findings suggest that consumer attitudinal disposition has a significant impact on consumers' purchase intention. Attitude formation is the first step in consumers' behavioural decision and making a purchase decision. Marketing managers/practitioners need to focus on forming this attitude in consumers' minds, so that this attitude formation leads to a purchase decision. Conclusions: This research provides theoretical and managerial implications for marketers, especially those operating in an emerging market like India as this study has examined the role of consumer disposition on attitude formation and purchase intention. From a theoretical perspective, this study developed and tested a conceptual model describing the relationship between attitudinal disposition and purchase intention.

ABSTRACT

Pollution of water resources and a lack of potable water are two important issues that city dwellers in India encounter. The passage of untreated sewage down municipal drains is one of the most significant sources of water resource pollution. In densely populated areas, effective sanitation and wastewater management is becoming increasingly difficult. In many developing nations, centralized sewage and wastewater treatment facilities serve only a section of big cities, and on-site sanitation is frequently insufficient in heavily populated areas. There is a demand for complementary and intermediate solutions. DEWATS (community-managed anaerobic decentralized wastewater treatment systems) is a good option for the possibility of relatively fast sanitation improvements in high-priority neighbourhoods where the local authority is not providing a full sanitation service. The following technical treatment modules are typically seen in DEWATS. The primary treatment consists of sedimentation ponds, settlers, septic tanks or bio digester, secondary treatment consists of anaerobic baffled reactors, anaerobic filters or anaerobic and facultative pond systems, secondary aerobic/facultative treatment consists of horizontal gravel filters and post-treatment consists of aerobic polishing ponds. The experience of India in establishing community-managed DEWATS on a large scale is examined in this review.

ABSTRACT

Fahr's disease or Fahr's syndrome is a rare neurodegenerative disorder characterized by abnormal symmetrical calcifications of the basal ganglia, thalami, sub-cortical hemispheric white matter and deep cerebellar nuclei. It can be idiopathic or associated with an endocrinopathy, frequently with parathyroid disorder. Clinical spectrum of the disease is wide ranging from neurological features like seizure, syncope, stroke like events, extra-pyramidal symptoms often combined with frontal sub-cortical pattern of behavioural dysfunction and psychiatric symptoms such as psychosis, mood disorder and dementia. Diagnosis is based on the clinical features, progressive neurological dysfunction, absence of biochemical abnormality and characteristic radiological imaging.

ABSTRACT

Pneumocephalus implies air inside the cranial vault, which usually results from cranio-facial trauma. Occasionally, meningitis caused by gas-forming organisms can result in pneumocephalus. Klebsiella pneumoniae meningitis can, on rare occasions, cause pneumocephalus as a complication. The drug of choice for K. pneumoniae meningitis is a third-generation cephalosporin, and resistance to these drugs is unusual. We report a case of multidrug-resistant K. pneumoniae meningitis resulting from chronic suppurative otitis media, which was later complicated by pneumocephalus. The patient was successfully managed with meropenam and amikacin, the only antibiotics to which these bacilli showed no resistance.
