ABSTRACT

AIM: To analyze informative value of radiological diagnosis of acute gallstone ileus. MATERIAL AND METHODS: There were 7 patients with acute gallstone ileus who underwent diagnostic abdominal X-ray examination, ultrasonography and computed tomography. RESULTS: There was high informative value of CT for acute gallstone ileus if it was applied within the first hours after admission. At the same time other diagnostic approaches were less informative. CONCLUSION: CT within emergency diagnostic algorithm is able to optimize diagnostic process, to clarify the cause of acute ileus and to promptly determine the indications for video-assisted surgery.

ABSTRACT

AIM: To analyze informative value of radiological examination in diagnosis of acute gallstone intestinal obstruction. MATERIAL AND METHODS: Diagnosis and treatment of 7 patients with acute gallstone intestinal obstruction have been analyzed. Diagnostic protocol included radiography of abdominal cavity, sonography and computed tomography. RESULTS: Computed tomography within the first hours after hospitalization is highly informative to diagnose gallstone intestinal obstruction if other methods are ineffective. CONCLUSION: Inclusion of computed tomography into survey algorithm optimizes diagnostic process, clarifies the cause of acute intestinal obstruction and promptly determines the indications for video-assisted surgery.

ABSTRACT

415 patients with inguinal hernia were operated on in the period of 1996-2005yy. In 87 cases the abdominal wall reconstruction was performed using local tissues, Lichtenstein's method was employed in 139 patients and in 189 cases we performed the modificated combined reconstruction. The latter constitutes of the posterior inguinal wall reconstruction, using local tissues and mesh implantation to the medial part of the inguinal space. Postoperative complications after the combined reconstruction were registered in 12,7%, whereas after Lichtenstein and autoplasty 23 and 30% of patients, respectively, suffered from complications. The low seroma and genital edema incidence in patients where the combined inguinal reconstruction was used, are obviously due to the smaller size of the mesh, low traumatism of the operation and absence of tissue strain and spermatic cord compression. Follow-up results are better in the third group. Pain and <> are registered half more rare then in other groups. There were no hernia recurrence registered in the third group during the 6 years follow-up period.

ABSTRACT

The authors analyze the results of different types of radiation and endoscopic studies of 151 patients with pneumonia with an established etiological agent. There is a correlation of X-ray semiotics and endoscopic changes with the clinical manifestation and causative agent of the disease. When the studies are combined, emphasis is laid on the role of endoscopy in verifying the diagnosis, in specifying an etiological agent, and in implementing therapeutical measures to prevent complications. An algorithm of radiation imaging techniques is proposed to examine patients with pneumonia and of their purpose-oriented use according to the task set.
