ABSTRACT

The management of tooth wear is complex and challenging as it involves multidisciplinary approach. Proper diagnosis and elaborative treatment protocol is necessary to obtain successful and predictable outcome. The objective of full mouth rehabilitation includes identification of the cause, prevention and preservation of the remaining tooth structure. This case report presents the management of the remaining teeth by endodontic and periodontic intervention which was followed by porcelain fused to metal fixed prosthesis, telescopic denture for the upper missing teeth and extra-coronal attachments for the lower missing teeth. Segmental arch technique was utilized for the rehabilitation where anterior teeth were restored first followed by the posterior teeth. Patient had a satisfactory functional and aesthetic results.

ABSTRACT

Correct occlusal plane orientation is a prerequisite in Prosthodontic reconstructive treatment therapy as it helps in achieving esthetics and phonetics anteriorly and forms a milling surface posteriorly where tongue and buccinator muscle position the food bolus during mastication. Activity of Muscles during clenching will be least, when the occlusal plane is made parallel to plane of lost natural teeth. Conventionally the ala-tragus line (Camper's plane) is used as a guide for assessment of the occlusal plane and fox plane is used to check the parallelism between the two. Occlusal plane orientor is a new device developed to mark occlusal plane parallel to ala-tragus line on maxillary occlusion rim, thereby saving clinician's time and increasing efficiency. Additionally, it is a useful tool for occlusal plane orientation in patients with facial deformity, absence of an eye or an ear.

ABSTRACT

The demand for esthetic restorations has resulted in an increased use of dental ceramics for anterior and posterior restorations. A few decades ago, all-ceramic restorations were restricted to treatment in the anterior region, but now all-ceramic restorations can be made anywhere in the dentition. The properties of traditional ceramic materials, however, have limited their use to single crowns; larger restorations have been inadvisable because of insufficient strength. In attempts to meet the requirements for dental materials and improve strength and toughness, several new ceramic materials and techniques have been developed during the past few decades The paper reviews the current literature on dental zirconia with respect to survival, properties, marginal fit, cementation, esthetics and suggests clinical recommendations for their use.

ABSTRACT

The art of maxillofacial prosthetics restores esthetics and function in patients with gross developmental or acquired defects of face and helps them to restore hope and ambition to lead a useful life. This valuable service provided by maxillofacial prosthodontist lifts the morale of the patient and thus aids in physical well being and quality of life. Diagnosis and treatment planning should include attention to each detail prior to rehabilitation process. This paper describes a clinical case of mid face defect due to basal cell carcinoma, rehabilitated with facial prosthesis and intraoral obturator.
