ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND: Few studies have simultaneously focused on the associations of vegetable and fruit intake, physical activity, school bullying, and Internet addiction (IA) with depressive symptoms. This study aimed to explore the direct and indirect effects of the above factors on depressive symptoms in adolescents by constructing a structural equation model (SEM). METHODS: This study was conducted in Qingdao from September to November 2021. A total of 6195 secondary school students aged 10-19 years were included in the analysis. Information on all variables was assessed using a self-administered questionnaire. An SEM was constructed with depressive symptoms as the endogenous latent variable, IA as the mediating variable, and vegetable and fruit intake, physical activity, and school bullying as the exogenous latent variables. The standardized path coefficients (ß) were the direct effects between the latent variables, and the indirect effects were obtained by the product of direct effects between relevant latent variables. RESULTS: The median value with the interquartile range of depressive symptom scores was 7 (3,12). Vegetable and fruit intake (ß=-0.100, P<0.001) and physical activity (ß=-0.140, P<0.001) were directly negatively related to depressive symptoms. While school bullying (ß=0.138, P<0.001) and IA (ß=0.452, P<0.001) were directly positively related to depressive symptoms. IA had the greatest impact on depressive symptoms. Vegetable and fruit intake, physical activity, and school bullying could not only directly affect depressive symptoms, but also indirectly affect depressive symptoms through the mediating effect of IA, the indirect effects and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) were -0.028 (-0.051, -0.007), -0.114 (-0.148, -0.089) and 0.095 (0.060, 0.157), respectively. The results of the multi-group analysis showed that the SEM we constructed still fit in boy and girl groups. CONCLUSIONS: The results indicated that vegetable and fruit intake, physical activity, school bullying, and IA had a significant direct impact on depressive symptoms, among which IA had the greatest impact. In addition, both vegetable and fruit intake, school bullying, and physical activity indirectly affected depressive symptoms through the mediating effect of IA. The impact of IA on depressive symptoms should be given extra attention by schools and parents. This study provides a scientific and effective basis for the prevention and control of adolescent depressive symptoms.

ABSTRACT

In the present study, phosphogypsum slag-based cementitious material (PS) was designed, and the potential use for solidifying/stabilizing lead-contaminated soils was investigated. The physicochemical properties, performance, and mechanisms of its stabilization of lead in soil were studied by the methods of toxic leaching test, compressive strength, XRD, TGA, FTIR and XPS. The compressive strength of the PS solidified body was from 0.52 to 6.66 MPa when he concentration of lead ions in contaminated soil was set as 6000 mg/kg (0.6 %), 10,000 mg/kg (1.0 %) and 15,000 mg/kg (1.5 %) and the dosage of curing agent is 10 %, 20 % and 30 %., which is acceptable for backfill treatments or roadbed materials. Under the conditions, Pb leaching concentrations ranged from 40.98 to 355.21 µg·L-1, which was within the safety limit specified in Chinese standard (GB5085.3-2007). There is the potential for safe disposal and reuse of PS stabilized soil. TGA and XRD showed that the main components of PS-solidified soil were ettringite (AFt), calcium silicate hydrate (C-S-H), and lead phosphate. FTIR, XPS, and SEM-EDS analysis demonstrated the lead was successfully incorporated into AFt and C-S-H. Pb forms bonds with lead oxide and aluminum oxide tetrahedra and replaces part of the adsorbed Ca ions in AFt and C-S-H. In addition, the resulting phosphate precipitates were also encapsulated in the C-S-H phase, together with the stabilization of lead in the soil.

ABSTRACT

Early diagnosis is essential for the control and prevention of tuberculosis (TB). The objective of this study was to investigate the feasibility and performance of loop-mediated isothermal amplification (LAMP) in the diagnosis of pulmonary TB in county-level microscopy centers in Qingdao, Eastern China. A total of 523 presumptive TB patients were consecutively recruited between July 2017 and April 2018, and 22 patients were excluded from the analysis. Of 102 culture-positive cases, TB-LAMP identified 91 cases, demonstrating a sensitivity of 89.2%. In comparison, the sensitivity of routine smear microscopy was 69.6% (71/102), which was significantly lower than that of TB-LAMP (P=0.001). In addition, TB-LAMP sensitivities in smear-positive and smear-negative samples were 98.6% and 67.7%, respectively. In conclusion, our data demonstrate that TB-LAMP outperforms conventional smear microscopy in TB diagnosis, which could be used as an alternative method for smear microscopy in resource-limited settings in China.

In this study, our objectives was to analyze the molecular characteristics of mutation at embB codon306 in Mycobacterium tuberculosis in Qingdao by pyrosequencing technology, and to assess the value of embB codon306 used as a molecular marker to diagnose multidrug resistant (MDR) TB strains. Pyrosequencing was used to detect mutations at embB codon306 among M. tuberculosis isolates from tuberculosis (TB) patients in Qingdao. The correlation between embB306 mutation and MDR phenotype was evaluated by comparing with conventional drug susceptibility testing results. 60.9% of MDR strains and 15.2% of non-MDR strains carried embB306 mutation, respectively. The percentage of MDR-TB harboring embB306 mutation was significantly higher than that of non- MDR-TB (χ(2)=15.09, P < 0.01). EmbB306 mutation serving as a marker to diagnose MDR-TB comparing with the traditional susceptibility test, the specificity, sensitivity and accuracy were 85%, 61%, and 77%, respectively. EmbB306 mutation is the main mechanism of TB resistance to multidrug in Qingdao, showing an association with the MDR. Pyrosequencing should be a good diagnostic tool for MDR-TB in Qingdao.

ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE: Chemotherapy has become the mainstay of first-line therapy. Non-platinum containing drugs are characterized by favorable toxicity profiles and is better tolerated than platinum-based regimens. The aim of this study is to detect the efficacy and toxicity of gemcitabine and vinorelbine (GN) in advanced non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) first-line treatment in China. METHODS: We retrospectively reviewed 67 NSCLC patients treated with this agent at five Hospital in China from Jan 2004 to Jun 2010. Survival analysis was evaluated by Kaplan-Meier method, multivariate analyses were performed to find prognostic markers using Cox proportional hazards model. RESULTS: A total of 67 patients were analyzed in this study. There were 52 patients with RRM1 negative and ERCC1 positive. The objective response rate was 34.3%. The disease control rate was 76.1%. The progression-free survival and median overall survival was 5.5 and 22.1 months, respectively. On multivariate analysis, performance status score and whether further treatment were independent prognostic factor for overall survival. CONCLUSION: The GN agent is effective for the first line treatment in advanced non-small cell lung cacer. The toxicity is well tolerated.
