ABSTRACT

Objective: To determine the level of knowledge about the prescription of analgesics, anti-inflammatories and antibiotics in pediatric dentistry of undergraduate dental students. Methodology: This study was descriptive, transversal and observational. The sample included 84 students. The instrument was a questionnaire validated by expert judgment which contained 22 questions divided into 2 parts, 11 questions on NSAIDs and 11 questions on antibiotics, indicating whether the level of knowledge was adequate or inadequate. Results: The level of knowledge in the use of analgesics and anti-inflammatories in undergraduate students of cycle XII was insufficient (90.5%), followed by 82.9% in cycle X and finally 82.1% in cycle VIII also insufficient. In relation to antibiotics in cycle VIII there was 85.7% insufficient knowledge, in cycle X it was 68.6%, and finally in cycle XII 61.9%, also was insufficient. Conclusions: The undergraduate students presented mostly insufficient level of knowledge in the use of analgesics, anti-inflammatories and antibiotics.

Objetivo. Determinar la prevalencia de caries dental y estado nutricional, y su asociación en niños de 3 a 5 años de las aldeas infantiles SOS. Material y método: El estudio fue descriptivo y transversal en 116 niños, determinándose la presencia de caries dental, registrando estado nutricional, edad y sexo. Resultados: La prevalencia de caries dental en la población fue del 63,79%, siendo esta en los desnutridos del 20,27%, en los obesos del 14,86% y en los normopesos del 64,86%, no encontrándose asociación estadística entre la variable caries dental y la variable estado nutricional (p=0,750). Conclusiones: La prevalencia de caries encontrada en los normopesos parece condicionada por el nivel socioeconómico. Se sugiere realizar estudios para evaluar el impacto de otras variables.


Objective: To determine the prevalence of dental caries and nutritional status, and the association between them in children from 3-5 years of SOS Children's Villages. Material and method: The study was descriptive and transversal in 116 children. Was determined the presence of caries, recording nutritional status, age and sex. Results: The prevalence of dental caries in the population was 63.79% where in the undernourished was 20.27%,in obese 14.86% and 64.86% in the normal weight, no was found statistical association between dental caries variable and the variable nutritional status (p = 0.750). Conclusions: The caries prevalence found in children with normal weight seems conditioned by the socioeconomic level, is necessary studies to evaluate the impact of other variables.
