ABSTRACT

The study evaluated the concentration of homocysteine in the most numerous groups of indigene population of Priamurye (Even, Ultch, Nanai) as compared with adjacent to them outsider population. The technique of random sampling was applied to select 82 Even, 89 Ultch, 95 Nanai and for comparing the representatives of outsider male and female population in statistically comparable numbers. The concentration of homocysteine was determined with luminescence immunoassay using the analyzer immulite 1000 (Diagnostic Products Corporation, USA) and applying Siemens kits (USA). The mean population values of homocysteine were reliably lower among indigene males and females as compared with representatives of outsider population. The lowest values of homocysteine were established among Even males and females, dwelling on the shore of Sea of Okhotsk. Whereas no reliable differences in concentrations ofhomocysteine in blood serum were established among Ultch dwelling in downstream of Amur river and Nanai dwelling in middle course of Amur river 240 km from Khabarovsk.

ABSTRACT

The study was organized to establish the distinctive characteristics of lipid metabolism among the most numerous ethnic groups of native population in Amur region (Nanay, Ultch, Even) as compared with alien population. The technique of random sample was applied to examine 297 Even, 792 Ultch and 1274 Nanay (83.4%, 83.5% and 77.5% of total residing population accordingly, aged from 30 to 70 years and older). All examined persons were tested on whole cholesterol, triglycerides and cholesterol high-density lipoproteins in blood serum. The content of cholesterol high-density lipoproteins was calculated in mmol/l according the W. Friedwold equation. The examined group of alien population statistically did not differ. In all natives the indicators of lipid spectrum were more favorable on the average as compared with alien population. The differences were detected in native and alien population of Amur region concerning the lipid spectrum of blood. The levels of whole cholesterol, triglycerides and cholesterol high-density lipoproteins are reliably lower in males and females of Even and Nanay than in alien population residing next to them. This kind of difference concerning whole cholesterol and triglycerides is present among Ultch and Nanay as compared with alien males. The level of cholesterol high-density lipoproteins is lower in Ultchan females as compared with alien females. The level of cholesterol high-density lipoproteins is higher in all groups of native population than in alien populations.

ABSTRACT

To provide effective primary and secondary stroke prevention, the epidemiological stroke rates were investigated in the open population of a large Transbaykal town by the register method. During one year, 989 cases have been examined in the population aged above 25 years. The age-standardized stroke incidence rate (per 100 000 persons) was 300 in women and 329 in men. The age-standardized stroke morbidity (per 100 000 persons) was 390 in women and 409 in men. Stroke mortality was 77 in women and 81 in men per 100 000 (p = 0.01). The stroke mortality in men was higher than in women. Stroke case fatality was 20% in men and 16% in women. The prevalence and significance of the main cardiovascular risk factors were revealed among patients by case-control study. Hypertension, psychological and social risk factors were the most significant in Chita's population of stroke patients.

ABSTRACT

Relationship between elevated putrescine level in urine and its presence in the blood and bone marrow was analyzed in 44 children with acute leukemia in the active stage. It has been shown that putrescine is a marker of activation of leukemic proliferation that is confirmed by the disease course character in patients with elevated putrescine level in urine (66.3 +/- 5.1 mumols/day) and its presence in the blood and bone marrow. Putrescine can serve as an early precursor of relapses during investigation of patients in the remission state.

ABSTRACT

Content of polyamines and extracellular DNA were studied in blood of patients with acute leukoses which did not respond to chemotherapy. Concentration of total polyamines was distinctly lower in blood of patients with acute lymphoblast and myeloblast leukoses as compared with healthy persons. Free and total polyamines were unaltered in blood of these patients after cytostatic therapy. In the patients with acute leukoses content of extracellular DNA was 2-fold higher as compared with controls. The high DNA content was maintained during the therapeutic course. Absence of any alterations in the biochemical patterns studied suggest that the patients with acute leukoses did not respond to the course of treatment used.

ABSTRACT

The authors reported the results of retrospective analysis of the level of polyamines in urine and the duration of clinicohematological remission in 25 AL children aged 3 to 14. Of this number 23 patients suffered from acute lymphoblastic leukemia, 2--from acute myeloblastic leukemia. Direct correlation between polyamine changes during a course of chemotherapy and the duration of remission was established. Longer duration was observed in the patients in whom a 2-fold rise of the level of all polyamines, especially spermidine, followed the administration of a cytostatic within the first 24-72 h. On the discontinuation of therapy a certain decrease in polyamine excretion with urine was observed in these children as compared to the level determined on their admission to hospital.
