ABSTRACT

The objectives of this article include a review of the origin, reasons and rationale for developing an ambulatory surgical center (ACS) and the developmental process. In addition, opportunities and limitations are discussed in different developmental stages. Licensing, personnel and day-to-day operations are examined, and finally, impacts, implications and the future of ASCs are discussed.
