ABSTRACT

We examined peritoneal fluid obtained during laparoscopy in the aspect of its influence on cytotoxic activity of NK cells. We showed significant suppression of this activity in women with unexplained infertility. The suppression of NK activity was also present in women fertile and infertile both, with severe endometriosis. These results may indicate the immunological disorders in unexplained infertility and in endometriosis-related infertility.

ABSTRACT

UNLABELLED: The etiology of late hypertension (LH) in pregnant women is still unknown. The purpose of this study was to measure the circulatory levels of endothelin-1,2 (ET-1,2), 6-keto-PGF1-alfa as a major metabolite of prostacyclin, and atrial natriuretic peptide (ANP) in the serum of pregnant women with LH, and in the serum of control healty pregnant women, and control healthy nonpregnant women. RESULTS: The mean level of ET-1,2 among pregnant women with LH did not show any significant difference compared to control group. Serum 6-keto-PGF1-alfa levels was significantly higher (p < 0.001) in healthy pregnant women than in those of the pregnant women with LH and of healthy nonpregnant women. Serum ANP was significantly higher (p < 0.01) in the pregnant women with LH compared to healthy pregnant women and healthy nonpregnant women (p < 0.001). Among the women with LH there was no correlation between ET-1,2, 6-keto-PGF1-alfa and ANP.

ABSTRACT

The analysis of 2191 labours with pelvic presentation indicated that most perinatal traumas of newborns occurred after manual extraction of the fetus, and least frequent injuries were in children delivered by caesarean section. Within the period of 45 years (1946-1990) a statistically significant decrease occurred of the number of perinatal trauma of newborns which was proportional to an increase of the number of labours terminated with caesarean section.

ABSTRACT

The animal blood preparation Livex obtained from the Agricultural Academy in Wroclaw was used for treatment of anaemia of pregnancy. During four weeks of treatment (3 x 7.0 g of Livex added to diet) a statistically significant increase was found of anaemia parameters such as haemoglobin level, value of haematocrit, red blood cell count, and mean corpuscular volume. Other parameters such as mean corpuscular haemoglobin mass, and mean corpuscular haemoglobin concentration were also increased but statistically insignificantly. Livex is an effective and safe preparation causing no side effects in view of the presence of certain trace elements in it, especially iron, copper, zinc, cobalt, and selenium. The use of this preparation in the treatment of anaemia of pregnancy is a natural and effective method of erythropoietic process stimulation.

ABSTRACT

Ouabain- and furosemide-dependent rate of sodium outflow through lymphocytes cellular membranes was measured in both healthy pregnant women and those with arterial blood hypertension caused by pregnancy. It was shown, that ouabain-dependent sodium outflow rate is decreased in healthy women in the I, II, and III trimester of pregnancy, while in women with arterial hypertension in the III trimester. No difference in sodium outflow rate both total and furosemide-dependent in healthy pregnant women during the I, II and III trimester, and in pregnant women with arterial hypertension due to pregnancy in the III trimester was noted. No difference in sodium outflow rate was noted in pregnant women with the arterial hypertension due to pregnancy with familial history of the hypertension.

ABSTRACT

Dependence of birth weight on insulin dosage in pregnant diabetic women, diabetes mellitus class (according to White) have been discussed. An analysis included 56 pregnancies complicated with diabetes mellitus, which were terminated at the I Department of Obstetrics, Medical Academy in Wroclaw between January, 1981 and January, 1988. Neonates birth weight is reversely proportional to insulin daily dose given to pregnant women diabetes mellitus during the III trimester of pregnancy. Diabetic angiopathy and nephropathy could be considered as factors deciding on the low birth weight of neonates delivered by the diabetic mothers despite euglycemia.

ABSTRACT

The authors, basing in the survey of literature and on own experience, discuss pregnancy in diabetic patients together with possible complications. Pregnancy exerts an unfavourable effect on diabetes mellitus with significant vascular disorders being in some cases even life-threatening. An of clinical status of the diabetes mellitus should be always carefully assessed in every diabetic woman to avoid serious complications, which may occur later-during possible pregnancy. Date of pregnancy termination in every pregnant diabetic with vascular disorders should depend on not only on status of fetus but also of the mother. A chance of getting pregnant in case of diabetic women depends on the advancement of the disease. Persisting vascular and systemic disorders seen in diabetic mellitus are contraindications for pregnancy.

ABSTRACT

Health status of 53 babies delivered by diabetic mothers are discussed. Neonatal period was uncomplicated only in 12 cases. The remaining babies suffered from respiratory disorders, edema, neurological disturbances, prolonged jaundice, infections etc. Metabolic disorders in diabetic female are unfavourable for the development of pregnancy and neonate health. it may be improved by the proper diagnostico-therapeutical management prior to and during pregnancy and by intensive care of neonates after delivery. It requires, however, the establishment of health institution with highly qualified teams well equipped which will be able to carry out diagnosis and therapy of diabetes mellitus in females in the reproductive age, during pregnancy as well as proper care of the neonates.

ABSTRACT

A rare case of the prune syndrome of Obrinsky was observed in a male newborn born in pelvic presentation in poor condition. The newborn died during operation for cord hernia and suturing of the perforated persisting urachus with signs of cardiorespiratory failure.

ABSTRACT

Causes, course and prognosis in 90 cases of the acute renal failure in neonates and infants have been discussed. All cases were treated between 1971 and 1985. Recently, an increase in the incidence of the acute renal failure is being noted. The acute diarrhoea and hemolytico-uremic syndromes are the most frequent cause of the acute renal failure. Consequences of the acute renal failure and its complications require further nephrological care.
