ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND: 4-[18F]fluorobenzyl-triphenylphosphonium ([18F]FBnTP) is a lipophilic cation PET tracer. The cellular uptake of [18F]FBnTP is correlated with oxidative phosphorylation by mitochondria, which has been associated with multiple critical diseases. To date, [18F]FBnTP has been successfully applied for imaging myocardial perfusion, assessment of severity of coronary artery stenosis, delineation of the ischemic area after transient coronary occlusion, and detection/quantification of apoptosis in various animal models. Recent preclinical and clinical studies have also expanded the possibilities of using [18F]FBnTP in oncological diagnosis and therapeutic monitoring. However, [18F]FBnTP is typically prepared through a tediously lengthy four-step, three-pot reaction and required multiple synthesizer modules; Thus, such an approach remains a challenge for this promising radiopharmaceutical to be implemented for routine clinical studies. Herein, we report an optimized one-step, one-pot automated approach to produce [18F]FBnTP through a single standard commercially-available radiosynthesizer that enables centralized production for clinical use. RESULTS: The fully automated production of [18F]FBnTP took less than 55 min with radiochemical yields ranging from 28.33 ± 13.92% (non-decay corrected), apparent molar activity of 69.23 ± 45.62 GBq/µmol, and radiochemical purities of 99.79 ± 0.41%. The formulated [18F]FBnTP solution was determined to be sterile and colorless with a pH of 4.0-6.0. Our data has indicated no observable radiolysis after 8 h from the time of final product formulation and maximum assay of 7.88 GBq. CONCLUSIONS: A simplified and cGMP-compliant radiosynthesis of [18F]FBnTP has been established on the commercially available synthesizer in high activity concentration and radiochemical purity. While the preclinical and clinical studies using [18F]FBnTP PET are currently underway, the automated approaches reported herein facilitate clinical adoption of this radiotracer and warrant centralized production of [18F]FBnTP for imaging multiple patients.

ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND: Gastroenteritis is a common cause of morbidity and mortality globally. Its cause encompasses a spectrum of agents, including viruses, bacteria, parasites, toxins, and drugs. Viruses account for a considerable portion of gastroenteritis cases across all age groups, typically presenting with symptoms like nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, dehydration, anorexia, and weight loss. While sporadic cases occur, viral gastroenteritis is more frequently observed in outbreaks within closely knit communities such as daycare facilities, nursing homes, and cruise ships. Therefore, it becomes necessary to determine when healthcare providers should consider this condition in their differential diagnosis and to develop the most effective strategy to confirm the diagnosis. METHODS: De-identified data of patients with gastroenteritis were collected over a five-year period utilizing the Patient Cohort Explorer, an electronic health record at the University of Mississippi Medical Center. Confirmatory laboratory tests employed the BioFire® FilmArray® multiplex polymerase chain reaction for gastrointestinal pathogens. Out of the 22 most common agents associated with gastroenteritis, only viral pathogens, specifically adenovirus, astrovirus, norovirus, rotavirus, and sapovirus, were included in the analysis. When available, histopathology was reviewed. RESULTS: Among the various causes of gastroenteritis, both infectious and non-infectious, our findings revealed that 25.46% of the cases were linked to viral pathogens. This included a significantly higher percentage of pediatric patients (72.73%) when compared to adults (27.07%), with a p-value of 0.015. Norovirus genogroups I and II emerged as the most frequently detected viruses across all age groups, with a significant prevalence among adults. No discernible gender-based differences were observed. The histopathological findings included inflammation, ulceration, erosion, architectural distortion, and the pathognomonic viral inclusion bodies associated with adenovirus. CONCLUSION: Our comprehensive analysis of viral gastroenteritis cases highlights the substantial burden of this condition, particularly among pediatric patients. Norovirus emerges as a prevalent culprit which emphasizes the importance of vigilant surveillance and timely diagnosis, especially in settings where outbreaks are common.

ABSTRACT

The treatment of severe aortic stenosis (SAS) has evolved rapidly with the advent of minimally invasive structural heart interventions. Transcatheter aortic valve replacement has allowed patients to undergo definitive SAS treatment achieving faster recovery rates compared to valve surgery. Not infrequently, patients are admitted/diagnosed with SAS after a fall associated with a hip fracture (HFx). While urgent orthopedic surgery is key to reduce disability and mortality, untreated SAS increases the perioperative risk and precludes physical recovery. There is no consensus on what the best strategy is either hip correction under hemodynamic monitoring followed by valve replacement or preoperative balloon aortic valvuloplasty to allow HFx surgery followed by valve replacement. However, preoperative minimalist transcatheter aortic valve replacement may represent an attractive strategy for selected patients. We provide a management pathway that emphasizes an early multidisciplinary approach to optimize time for hip surgery to improve orthopedic and cardiovascular outcomes in patients presenting with HFx-SAS.

BACKGROUND: Modular fluted tapered (MFT) femoral components are frequently utilized in aseptic revision total hip arthroplasties (THAs). However, long-term follow-up has been limited. The purpose of this study was to update our prior series at long-term follow-up, with specific emphasis on implant survivorship, radiographic results, and complications in a large cohort of aseptic revision THAs using MFT stems. METHODS: We retrospectively identified 515 aseptic femoral revisions performed with 2 MFT stem designs in the total joint registry of a single tertiary care academic institution from 1999 to 2013. Serial radiographs were reviewed for subsidence of >5 mm. The mean follow-up (and standard deviation) was 10 ± 5 years (range, 2 to 21 years). A competing risk model accounting for death was utilized. RESULTS: The 15-year cumulative incidence of any revision was 12%. There were 57 revisions, 27 of which involved revision of the fluted tapered component (FTC). Dislocation (n = 19), periprosthetic joint infection (n = 15), and aseptic loosening of the FTC (n = 11) were the most common reasons for revision. The 15-year cumulative incidence of any reoperation was 16%. The 15-year cumulative incidences were 6% for any FTC revision and 2% for FTC revision for aseptic loosening. Stem subsidence of >5 mm occurred in 2% of unrevised cases, and all but 1 stem was stable at the most recent follow-up. CONCLUSIONS: This large series of MFT stems used in aseptic revision THAs had a 2% incidence of subsequent revision of the FTC for aseptic loosening at 15 years. ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND: Continuous exposure to extreme and chronic stress from uncontrollable events has been linked to increased psychological and physiological reactivity. Prolonged, frequent deployments may test coping skills over time, ultimately rendering Servicemembers vulnerable to mental health problems and suicide. This study develops a methodology for accurately collecting holistic health measures from Servicemembers using digital tools, including custom-built phone software and body-worn sensors. METHODS: The secure research platform and mobile app continuously collect multiple health measures and, after data analysis, deliver continuously updated summary data back to the Servicemember. This system provides novel insights into the relationships between the measures while helping individuals track their progress toward self-established goals. Participants were given an iPhone (including the study app) and an Apple Watch. Participants tracked their data for more than 6 months and responded to baseline, daily, and weekly questions and assessments. Physiologic, psychologic, and cognitive assessment data across the Preservation of the Force and Family program (POTFF) domains were collected, displayed to the individual, and analyzed in aggregate. RESULTS: When coupled with custom-built software, this hardware can be elevated from a fitness tracker to a user-facing health monitoring, educational, and delivery system. CONCLUSION: This wearable system measured vital factors associated with the health and human performance of Servicemembers. In real-time, it engaged Servicemembers in health and human performance optimization practices to achieve a goal of prevention of physical or mental injury.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVES: To determine factors associated with health-related quality of life (HRQL) decline among pediatric acute respiratory distress syndrome (PARDS) survivors. DESIGN: Retrospective cohort study. SETTING: Academic children's hospital. PATIENTS: Three hundred fifteen children 1 month to 18 years old with an unplanned PICU admission from December 2011 to February 2017 enrolled in the hospital's Outcomes Assessment Program. INTERVENTIONS: None. MEASUREMENTS AND MAIN RESULTS: Pre-admission baseline and median 6-week post-discharge HRQL were assessed using the Pediatric Quality of Life Inventory or the Functional Status II-R. Patients meeting retrospectively applied Second Pediatric Acute Lung Injury Consensus Conference criteria for PARDS were identified, and PARDS severity was classified using binary (mild/moderate, severe) and trichotomous (mild, moderate, severe) categorization for noninvasive ventilation and invasive mechanical ventilation (IMV). PARDS occurred in 41 of 315 children (13.0%). Clinically important HRQL decline (≥ 4.5 points) occurred in 17 of 41 patients (41.5%) with PARDS and 64 of 274 without PARDS (23.4%). On multivariable generalized linear regression adjusted for age, baseline Pediatric Overall Performance Category, maximum nonrespiratory Pediatric Logistic Organ Dysfunction score, diagnosis, length of stay, and time to follow-up, PARDS was associated with HRQL decline (adjusted relative risk [aRR], 1.70; 95% CI, 1.03-2.77). Four-hour and maximum PARDS severity were the only factors associated with HRQL decline. HRQL decline occurred in five of 18 patients with mild PARDS at 4 hours, five of 13 with moderate PARDS (aRR 2.35 vs. no PARDS [95% CI, 1.01-5.50]), and seven of ten with severe PARDS (aRR 2.56 vs. no PARDS [95% CI, 1.45-4.53]). The area under the receiver operating characteristic curve for discrimination of HRQL decline for IMV patients was 0.79 (95% CI, 0.66-0.91) for binary and 0.80 (95% CI, 0.69-0.93) for trichotomous severity categorization. CONCLUSIONS: HRQL decline is common among children surviving PARDS, and risk of decline is associated with PARDS severity. HRQL decline from baseline may be an efficient and clinically meaningful endpoint to incorporate into PARDS clinical trials.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the persistence of intestinal microbiome dysbiosis and gut-plasma metabolomic perturbations following severe trauma or sepsis weeks after admission in patients experiencing chronic critical illness (CCI). SUMMARY: Trauma and sepsis can lead to gut dysbiosis and alterations in the plasma and fecal metabolome. However, the impact of these perturbations and correlations between gut dysbiosis and the plasma metabolome in chronic critical illness have not been studied. METHODS: A prospective observational cohort study was performed with healthy subjects, severe trauma patients, patients with sepsis residing in an intensive care unit (ICU) for 2-3 weeks. A high-throughput multi-omics approach was utilized to evaluate the gut microbial and gut-plasma metabolite responses in critically ill trauma and sepsis patients 14-21 days after ICU admission. RESULTS: Patients in the sepsis and trauma cohorts demonstrated strikingly depleted gut microbiome diversity, with significant alterations and specific pathobiome patterns in the microbiota composition compared to healthy subjects. Further subgroup analyses based on sex revealed resistance to changes in microbiome diversity among female trauma patients compared to healthy counterparts. Sex-specific changes in fecal metabolites were also observed after trauma and sepsis, while plasma metabolite changes were similar in both males and females. CONCLUSIONS: Dysbiosis induced by trauma and sepsis persists up to 14-21 days after onset and is sex-specific, underscoring the implication of pathobiome and entero-septic microbial-metabolite perturbations in post-sepsis and post-trauma CCI. This indicates resilience to infection or injury in females' microbiome and should inform and facilitate future precision/personalized medicine strategies in the intensive care unit.

ABSTRACT

Inter-species comparisons are key to deriving an understanding of the behavioral and neural correlates of human cognition from animal models. We perform a detailed comparison of the strategies of female macaque monkeys to male and female humans on a variant of the Wisconsin Card Sort Test (WCST), a widely studied and applied task that provides a multi-attribute measure of cognitive function and depends on the frontal lobe. WCST performance requires the inference of a rule change given ambiguous feedback. We found that well-trained monkeys infer new rules three times more slowly than minimally instructed humans. Input-dependent Hidden Markov Model-Generalized Linear Models were fit to their choices, revealing hidden states akin to feature-based attention in both species. Decision processes resembled a Win-Stay Lose-Shift strategy with inter-species similarities as well as key differences. Monkeys and humans both test multiple rule hypotheses over a series of rule-search trials and perform inference-like computations to exclude candidate choice options. We quantitatively show that perseveration, random exploration and poor sensitivity to negative feedback account for the slower task-switching performance in monkeys.Significance Statement Advances in training and recording from animal models support the study of increasingly complex behaviors in non-humans. Before interpreting their neural computations as human-like, we must first ascertain whether their computational algorithms are human-like. We compared rapid rule-learning strategies of macaque monkeys and humans on a Wisconsin Card Sorting Test variant and found that monkeys are 3-4 times slower than humans at learning new rules. Model fits to choice behavior revealed that both species use qualitatively similar exploration strategies with different decision criteria. These differences produced distinct errors in monkeys that are similar to those observed in humans with prefrontal deficits. Our results generate detailed neural hypotheses and highlight the need for systematic inter-species behavioral and neural comparisons.

Purpose: The VisuALL S is an automated, static threshold, virtual reality-based perimeter for mobile evaluation of the visual field. We examined same-day and 3-month repeatability. Methods: Adult participants with a diagnosis of glaucoma or ocular hypertension underwent two VisuALL 24-2 Normal T- Full threshold strategy tests at baseline and one additional exam at 3 months for each eligible eye. Spearman, intraclass correlation coefficients (ICCs), and Bland-Altman plots were used to assess the correlation of individual point sensitivities and mean deviation (MD) among three tests. Results: Eighty-eight eyes (44 participants) were included. Average age was 68.1 ± 14.3 years, and 60.7% were male. VisuALL MD was highly correlated between tests (intravisit: r = 0.89, intervisit: r = 0.82; P < 0.001 for both). Bland-Altman analysis showed an average difference in intravisit MD of -0.67 dB (95% confidence interval [CI], -6.04 to 4.71 dB) and -0.15 dB (95% CI, -8.04 to 7.73 dB) for intervisit exams. Eight-five percent of pointwise intravisit ICCs were above 0.75 (range, 0.63 to 0.93), and 65% of pointwise intervisit ICCs were above 0.75 (range, 0.55 to 0.91). Conclusions: VisuALL demonstrated high correlation of MD between tests and good repeatability for individual point sensitivities among three tests in 3 months, except at the points around the blind spot and superiorly. Translational Relevance: The preliminary reproducibility results for VisuALL are encouraging. Its portable design makes it a potentially useful tool for patients with glaucoma, enabling more frequent assessments both at home and in clinical settings.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE: Survivors of pediatric brain tumors (SPBT) are at risk for social deficits, fewer friendships, and poor peer relations. SPBT also experience reduced brain connectivity via microstructural disruptions to white matter from neurological insults. Research with other populations implicates white matter connectivity as a key contributor to poor social functioning. This case-controlled diffusion-weighted imaging study evaluated structural connectivity in SPBT and typically developing controls (TDC) and associations between metrics of connectivity and social functioning. METHODS: Diffusion weighted-imaging results from 19 SPBT and 19 TDC were analyzed using probabilistic white matter tractography. Survivors were at least 5 years post-diagnosis and 2 years off treatment. Graph theory statistics measured group differences across several connectivity metrics, including average strength, global efficiency, assortativity, clustering coefficient, modularity, and betweenness centrality. Analyses also evaluated the effects of neurological risk on connectivity among SPBT. Correlational analyses evaluated associations between connectivity and indices of social behavior. RESULTS: SPBT demonstrated reduced global connectivity compared to TDC. Several medical factors (e.g., chemotherapy, recurrence, multimodal therapy) were related to decreased connectivity across metrics of integration (e.g., average strength, global efficiency) in SPBT. Connectivity metrics were related to peer relationship quality and social challenges in the SPBT group and to social challenges in the total sample. CONCLUSIONS: Microstructural white matter connectivity is diminished in SPBT and related to neurological risk and peer relationship quality. Additional neuroimaging research is needed to evaluate associations between brain connectivity metrics and social functioning in SPBT.

ABSTRACT

Understanding what regulates ecosystem functional responses to disturbance is essential in this era of global change. However, many pioneering and still influential disturbance-related theorie proposed by ecosystem ecologists were developed prior to rapid global change, and before tools and metrics were available to test them. In light of new knowledge and conceptual advances across biological disciplines, we present four disturbance ecology concepts that are particularly relevant to ecosystem ecologists new to the field: (a) the directionality of ecosystem functional response to disturbance; (b) functional thresholds; (c) disturbance-succession interactions; and (d) diversity-functional stability relationships. We discuss how knowledge, theory, and terminology developed by several biological disciplines, when integrated, can enhance how ecosystem ecologists analyze and interpret functional responses to disturbance. For example, when interpreting thresholds and disturbance-succession interactions, ecosystem ecologists should consider concurrent biotic regime change, non-linearity, and multiple response pathways, typically the theoretical and analytical domain of population and community ecologists. Similarly, the interpretation of ecosystem functional responses to disturbance requires analytical approaches that recognize disturbance can promote, inhibit, or fundamentally change ecosystem functions. We suggest that truly integrative approaches and knowledge are essential to advancing ecosystem functional responses to disturbance.

ABSTRACT

We report on a Kerr-lens mode-locked Tm,Ho-codoped calcium aluminate laser with in-band pumping of the Tm ions by a spatially single-mode 1678 nm Raman fiber laser. The structurally disordered CaGdAlO4 host crystal is also codoped also with the passive Lu ion for additional inhomogeneous line broadening. The Tm,Ho,Lu:CaGdAlO4 laser generates soliton pulses as short as 79 fs at a central wavelength of 2073.6 nm via soft-aperture Kerr-lens mode-locking. The corresponding average output power amounts to 91 mW at a pulse repetition rate of ∼86 MHz. The average output power can be scaled to 842 mW at the expense of slightly longer pulses of 155 fs at 2045.9 nm, which corresponds to a peak power of ∼58 kW. To the best of our knowledge, this represents the first demonstration of an in-band pumped Kerr-lens mode-locked Tm,Ho solid-state laser at ∼2 µm.

ABSTRACT

This article presents an experimental demonstration of a spectroscopic method based on the dispersion of the scattering spectrum from laser-illuminated liquid water collected through a rubidium atomic vapor prism cell. Resonant absorption at 780 nm suppresses Mie/Rayleigh scattering and the steep gradients in refractive index near the 780 nm absorption lines separate Brillouin scattering from Raman scattering in liquid water. The opposing spatial displacements of the Stokes and Anti-Stokes shifted Brillouin peaks yield a measurement of their spectral shifts and thus the temperature or salinity of the water. Performance of the prism cell was mapped with a frequency tunable laser for frequency offsets from the center of the rubidium absorption feature of between -15 GHz and 15 GHz and at rubidium cell temperatures between 148 °C and 177 °C. The experimental results are compared with a numerical model and show good agreement with the scattering peak displacements within experimental uncertainties of probe frequency and cell temperature. In the present configuration, the minimum detectable frequency shift is estimated to be 15.5 MHz. Experiments were conducted in water demonstrating the utility of this method for the measurement of water temperature. Liquid water LiDAR was suggested as one of the possible applications for this method and several ways to improve the experimental setup and cell temperature stability were identified.

ABSTRACT

PURPOSE: For men with intermediate-risk prostate cancer treated with definitive therapy, the addition of androgen deprivation therapy (ADT) reduces the risk of distant metastasis and cancer-related mortality. However, the absolute benefit of ADT varies by baseline cancer risk. Estimates of prognosis have improved over time, and little is known about ADT decision making in the modern era. We sought to characterize variability and identify factors associated with intended ADT use within the Michigan Radiation Oncology Quality Consoritum (MROQC). MATERIALS AND METHODS: Patients with localized prostate cancer undergoing definitive radiation therapy were enrolled from June 9, 2020, to June 26, 2023 (n = 815). Prospective data were collected using standardized patient, physician, and physicist forms. Intended ADT use was prospectively defined and was the primary outcome. Associations with patient, tumor, and practice-related factors were tested with multivariable analyses. Random intercept modeling was used to estimate facility-level variability. RESULTS: Five hundred seventy patients across 26 facilities were enrolled with intermediate-risk disease. ADT was intended for 46% of men (n = 262/570), which differed by National Comprehensive Cancer Network favorable intermediate-risk (23.5%, n = 38/172) versus unfavorable intermediate-risk disease (56.3%, n = 224/398; P < .001). After adjusting for the statewide case mix, the predicted probability of intended ADT use varied significantly across facilities, ranging from 15.4% (95% CI, 5.4%-37.0%) to 71.7% (95% CI, 57.0%-82.9%), with P < .01. Multivariable analyses showed that grade group 3 (OR, 4.60 [3.20-6.67]), ≥50% positive cores (OR, 2.15 [1.43-3.25]), and prostate-specific antigen 10 to 20 (OR, 1.87 [1.24-2.84]) were associated with ADT use. Area under the curve was improved when incorporating MRI adverse features (0.76) or radiation treatment variables (0.76), but there remained significant facility-level heterogeneity in all models evaluated (P < .05). CONCLUSIONS: Within a state-wide consortium, there is substantial facility-level heterogeneity in intended ADT use for men with intermediate-risk prostate cancer. Future efforts are necessary to identify patients who will benefit most from ADT and to develop strategies to standardize appropriate use.

ABSTRACT

It has become apparent that endogenous opioids act not only as neurotransmitters and neuromodulators, but have multiple functions in the body. Activation of the opioid system by opiate drugs is associated with a risk of cancer development through direct stimulation of tumor cell proliferation and through immunosuppression. In contrast, the endogenous peptide opioid [Met5]-enkephalin, now commonly referred to as Opioid Growth Factor (OGF), negatively regulates cell proliferation in a wide number of cells during development, homeostasis, and neoplasia. This action is mediated through the opioid growth factor receptor, originally designated the zeta (ζ) opioid receptor. Further, contrary to the traditional notion of opiates as immunosuppressive, endogenous OGF has been shown to possess a number of positive immunomodulatory properties and may provide a beneficial effect in cancer by augmenting the activity of cells involved in both innate and acquired immunity. Taken together, the evidence supports consideration of opioid peptides such as OGF as new strategies for cancer therapy.

ABSTRACT

Positioned at the head of the nephron, the renal corpuscle generates a plasma ultrafiltrate to initiate urine formation. Three major cell types within the renal corpuscle, the glomerular mesangial cells, podocytes, and glomerular capillary endothelial cells communicate via endocrine and paracrine signaling mechanisms to maintain structure and function of the glomerular capillary network and filtration barrier. Ca2+ signaling mediated by several distinct plasma membrane Ca2+ channels modulates the functions of all three cell types. The last two decades have witnessed pivotal advances in understanding of Ca2+ channel function and regulation in glomerular cells, particularly non-voltage gated Ca2+ channels, in health and renal disease. This review summarizes the current knowledge of the physiological and pathological impact of non-voltage gated Ca2+ channel signaling in glomerular capillary endothelium, mesangial cells and podocytes. The main focus is on transient receptor potential and store-operated Ca2+ channels, but ionotropic N-methyl-D-aspartate receptors and purinergic 2X receptors also are discussed. This update of Ca2+ channel functions in the renal corpuscle and their cellular signaling cascades is intended to inform development of therapeutic strategies targeting these channels to treat kidney diseases, particularly diabetic nephropathy.

Purpose: Knowing the surgical safety of anterior chamber liquid biopsies will support the increased use of proteomics and other molecular analyses to better understand disease mechanisms and therapeutic responses in patients and clinical trials. Manual review of operative notes from different surgeons and procedures in electronic health records (EHRs) is cumbersome, but free-text software tools could facilitate efficient searches. Design: Retrospective case series. Participants: A total of 1418 aqueous humor liquid biopsies from patients undergoing intraocular surgery. Methods: Free-text EHR searches were performed using the Stanford Research Repository cohort discovery tool to identify complications associated with anterior chamber paracentesis and subsequent endophthalmitis. Complications of the surgery unrelated to the biopsy were not reviewed. Main Outcome Measures: Biopsy-associated intraoperative complications and endophthalmitis. Results: A total of 1418 aqueous humor liquid biopsies were performed by 17 experienced surgeons. EHR free-text searches were 100% error-free for surgical complications, >99% for endophthalmitis (<1% false positive), and >93.6% for anesthesia type, requiring manual review for only a limited number of cases. More than 85% of cases were performed under local anesthesia without ocular muscle akinesia. Although the most common indication was cataract (50.1%), other diagnoses included glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy, uveitis, age-related macular degeneration, endophthalmitis, retinitis pigmentosa, and uveal melanoma. A 50- to 100-µL sample was collected in all cases using either a 30-gauge needle or a blunt cannula via a paracentesis. The median follow-up was >7 months. There was only one minor complication (0.07%) identified: a case of a small tear in Descemet membrane without long-term sequelae. No other complications occurred, including other corneal injuries, lens or iris trauma, hyphema, or suprachoroidal hemorrhage. There was no case of postoperative endophthalmitis. Conclusions: Anterior chamber liquid biopsy during intraocular surgery is a safe procedure and may be considered for large-scale collection of aqueous humor samples for molecular analyses. Free-text EHR searches are an efficient approach to reviewing intraoperative procedures. ABSTRACT

The chemical architecture of conjugated polymers is often designed by contemplating and understanding the consequences of structural changes on electronic properties at the molecular level. However, even minor changes to the chemical structure of a polymer can significantly influence the packing arrangement, which also influences the electronic properties of the bulk material. Here, we investigate the molecular arrangement in the ordered state at room temperature of a series of three different polydiketopyrrolopyrroles (PDPPs) in bulk and oriented thin films in detail by wide-angle X-ray scattering and by atomic force microscopy. The changes in the chemical structure of the investigated PDPPs, namely, an additional side chain or a different flanking unit, lead to an increase in long-range order and thereby to a change in the phase state from sanidic ordered via sanidic rectangular or oblique to crystalline.
