ABSTRACT

Ovarian cysts are the most common cause of pelvic masses in women, and in the majority of the cases, women are in their fertile age. Today, the surgical treatment has become more conservative and less invasive; hence, a laparoscopic approach in the presence of benign cysts has become a gold standard. Herein, we report a case of a 21-year-old woman referred to our Surgical Department for an abdominal mass, discovered with a computerised tomographic scan, of 20x10 x 25cm arising from the left ovary, treated with the laparoscopic approach.

ABSTRACT

Primary tumours of the pleura are commonly divided into two major categories: diffuse and localised. Whereas the diffuse variant is known for its association with asbestos and its poor outcome, the localised one is rare and remains a subject of controversy. Electron microscopy and immunohistochemistry have recently demonstrated that these tumours are of mesenchymal rather than mesothelial origin, and therefore the term "localised mesothelioma" was abandoned. Such tumours are now called solitary fibrous tumours of the pleura (SFTP). The Authors describe a series of 6 cases of benign solitary fibrous tumours of the pleura, surgically treated over the period 1982-2000.

ABSTRACT

Papillary cystic and solid tumour of the pancreas is a very rare variant form of pancreatic tumour. Such neoplasms have a malignant potential, but their prognosis is good if they are diagnosed early and treated by radical surgical resection. This paper describes a case of a young woman with papillary cystic and solid tumour of the pancreas, localized in the body and tail of the pancreas and treated by distal pancreatectomy. The authors discuss the pathogenesis and the clinical, histological, radiological and surgical features of this tumour.
