ABSTRACT

A SBA15-Fluconazole composite (SBA15-Flu) was prepared to formulate a self-healing coating for mild steel. The composite was obtained by dispersing SBA15 in a methanolic solution containing Fluconazole (Flu). The materials were characterized by using different techniques. Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) was used for protective behavior evaluation of the coatings on mild steel substrates in an electrolytic solution prepared from sodium chloride and ammonium sulfate. The EIS results indicate that the inhibitor trapped in the SiO2 matrix is released when it comes into contact the aggressive solution, thus protecting the metal. To understand the inhibitor release mechanism, docking studies were used to model the SBA15-Flu complex, which allowed us to further determine polar and non-polar contributions to the binding free energy. An analysis of the electron density within the quantum theory of atoms in molecules and the non-covalent interaction index frameworks were also carried out for the most favorable models of SBA15-Flu. The results indicate that the liberation rate of the Flu molecules is mainly determined by the formation of strong O-H⋅⋅⋅O, O-H⋅⋅⋅N, and O-H⋅⋅⋅F hydrogen bonds.

ABSTRACT

A series of new mono-1,2,3-triazole derivatives of pyrimidine nucleobases were synthesized by one-pot copper(I)-catalyzed 1,3-dipolar cycloaddition reactions between N-1-propargyluracil and thymine, sodium azide and several benzyl halides. The desired heterocyclic compounds were obtained in good yields and characterized by NMR, IR, and high resolution mass spectrometry. These compounds were investigated as corrosion inhibitors for steel in 1 M HCl solution, using electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) technique. The results indicate that these heterocyclic compounds are promising acidic corrosion inhibitors for steel.

ABSTRACT

Ten 1,4-disubstituted 1,2,3-triazoles were synthesized from one of 1-(azido-methyl)benzene, 1-(azidomethyl)-4-fluorobenzene, 1-(azidomethyl)-4-chlorobenzene, 1-(azidomethyl)-4-bromobenzene or 1-(azidomethyl)-4-iodobenzene, generated in situ from sodium azide and the corresponding benzyl halide, and dipropargyl uracil or dipropargyl thymine. Optimal experimental conditions were established for the conventional click chemistry. The corrosion inhibiting properties of some of these compounds, which were determined by means of an electrochemical technique, are also presented.

ABSTRACT

The tree Eysenhardtia polystachya (Ortega) Sarg. has quite a wide popular use within the traditional Mexican medicine as herbal remedy. Popular practices constitute a relevant enough basis to design optimum analytical methods in order to determine basic principles of diverse medicinal plants. This has become one of the essentials needed to characterize such products, for which it is fundamentally important to develop an efficient and reliable separation method. This work presents the results concerning the development and optimization of a novel CE method for the separation of components from water/etanol (1:1) extracts of E. polystachya, using the following conditions, considered the best obtained: phosphate buffer 10 mM, 20 kV voltage, and pH 8.1 at 214 nm and 50 mM, 12.5 kV voltage with pH 8.1 at 426 nm. The optimization takes into account the parameters associated in the resulting electropherograms, such as number of peaks, migration times, and the Deltat(m) of the neighboring peaks. Under optimal conditions the separation intended was attained within 15 and 20 min for 214 and 426 nm, respectively. The characterization method developed was applied to the analysis of diverse extracts of E. polystachya.
