ABSTRACT

The chemical constituents in the ethanol extract of Hypericum wightianum(Hypericaceae) were purified by column chromatography and identified via magnetic resonance imaging(NMR), high-resolution mass spectrum, and circular dichroism. A total of 22 compounds were identified, including eight polyprenylated phloroglucinols(1-8), three chromones(9-11), and three terpenoids(14-16) and so on. Among them, compounds 16 and 17 were first reported in the genus Hypericum, and compounds 1-11, 14, 15, and 19 were first isolated from H. wightianum. Compounds 1-4 were previously reported as two pairs of enantiomers. This study reported the chiral resolutions and absolute configurations of compounds 1-4 for the first time.

ABSTRACT

Humulane-type sesquiterpenoids, widely distributed in plants and microbes, include three types: α-humulene, β-humulene, and γ-humulene. Up to now, 98 humulane-type sesquiterpenoids have been reported, which possessed anti-tumor, anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, and antiviral activities. Herein, this paper describes their chemical constituents and pharmacological activities, hoping to bring benefits for further research and lay a foundation for investigating the structure-activity relationships.

ABSTRACT

One new lignan, named Z-pinnatifolin A, along with ten known analogues, were isolated from the stem bark of Syringa pinnatifolia by various chromatographic methods. Their structures were extensively determined on basis of MS and NMR spectroscopic data analyses, and comparison with those in literature. Among them, compounds 3,4, and 8-11 were isolated from this genus for the first time, and 5-7 were isolated from the specie for the first time. Compound 1 showed a moderate inhibition on NO production in BV-2 cells. The present study provides a preliminary data for clarification of bioactive ingredients of S.pinnatifolia with anti-myocardial ischemic effect.

ABSTRACT

Phytochemical investigation on the stems of Ilex asprella by using various chromatographic techniques led to the isolation of 13 compounds. By spectroscopic analyses and comparisons the spectral data with those in literatures, these compounds were identified as salicifoneoliganol(1), rel-(7R,8S)-3,3',5-trimethoxy-4',7-epoxy-8,5'-neolignan-4,9,9'-triol 9-β-D-glucopyranoside(2),(+)-cycloolivil(3),(+)-syringaresinol-4'-O-β-D-monoglucoside(4), liriodendrin(5), caffeic acid (6), 3,4-dihydroxy-5-methoxybenzaldehyde(7), benzene-1,2,4-triol(8), 3,4,5-trimethoxyphenyl-1-O-β-D-apiofuranosyl(1″→6')-glucopyranoside(9), aeculetin(10), cryptochlorogenic acid ethyl ester(11), chlorogenic acid ethyl ester(12), and rel-5-(3S,8S-dihydroxy-1R,5S-dimethyl-7-oxa-6-oxobicyclo [3,2,1]oct-8-yl)-3-methyl-2Z,4E-pentadienoic acid(13). Among them, compounds 7, 8, 11, and 13 were isolated from genus Ilex for the first time, and 1-3, 9, 10, and 12 were isolated from this speciesfor the first time. The anti-inflammatory assay results of these compounds showed that compounds 1 and 9 showed moderate inhibitory effect against NO production in RAW 267. 4 cells with IC₅₀ values of 35.7 and 50.6 μmol•L⁻¹, in vitro respectively, whereas compound 10 showed weak inhibition(IC₅₀ value 98.7 μmol•L⁻¹).

ABSTRACT

Hypecoi Erecti Herba is one of ethnic and folk medicines in China, mostly known in Tibetan medicine. It has the function of heat-clearing and detoxifying, and analgesia, indicated for the treatment of a variety of heat syndrome, such as "Chi Ba" pestilence, and warm toxin. Previous phytochemical studies revealed isoquinoline alkaloids are its main chemical components, and contemporary pharmacological research demonstrated that Hypecoi Erecti Herba has antibacterial, liver protection, analgesic, anti-inflammatory, and antiviral activities. The present paper describes the resource distribution, chemical constituents, and pharmacological activities of the plants in Hypecoum L. to provide the references for further research and development of the plants in Hypecoum L.

ABSTRACT

<p><b>OBJECTIVE</b>To study the clinical efficacy of double bundle posterior cruciate ligament (PCL) reconstruction with remnant preservation.</p><p><b>METHODS</b>From January 2007 to November 2011, 50 patients with PCL rupture met the inclusion criteria were divided into two groups: remnant preservation group (RP group) and remnant resection group (RR group). There were 19 males and 7 females in the RP group, ranging in age from 18 to 55 years, with a mean of (32.250 +/- 11.085) years old. The duration from injury to operation ranged from 2 to 66 months, with an average of (17.481 +/- 3.568) months. Among the RR group, 17 patients were male and 7 patients were female, ranging in age from 20 to 54 years old, with an average of (31.458 +/- 9.569) years. The duration from injury to operation ranged from 3 to 72 months, with a mean of (19.354 +/- 3.950) months. The patients in both groups suffered from instability of knee joint, got a positive result of posterior drawer test. In the RP group, the intercondylar notch remnant fiber, scar tissue and synovial were preserved in operation, only the free ligament in the intercondylar notch was resected. In the RR group, the remnant fiber, scar tissue and synovial tissue of adhesive parts were resected. In both groups, autologous semitendinosus and gracilis tendon double-bundle PCL reconstruction were carried out, the tibia was fixed with an absorbable interference screw with post-tie fixation, and the femur side was compositely fixed with absorbable interference screws and suspending fixation. Each patient received both subjective assessment (IKDC subjective evaluation, Lysholm scoring and Cincinnati rating) and objective clinical assessment (IKDC objective evaluation and Kneelax 3 tibia backward measurement) before operation and two years after operation.</p><p><b>RESULTS</b>IKDC subjective evaluation: 92.167 +/- 4.177 in the RP group, which was higher than 87.542 +/- 5.687 in the RR group (P = 0.010). Lysholm scores: 90.917 +/- 4.413 in the RP group, which was higher than 87.083 +/- 5.149 in the RR group (P = 0.027). Cincinnati knee scores: 92.125 +/- 4.003 in the RP group, which was higher than 87.791 +/- 6.665 in the RR group (P = 0.027). IKDC objective evaluation:no significant statistical differences between RP group and RR group. Kneelax 3 assessment : tibia backward test with Kneelax 3 under 132 N showed no significant statistical difference between RP group and RR group, which were (3.958 +/- 0.693) mm and (4.029 +/- 0.846) mm respectively (P = 0.795).</p><p><b>CONCLUSION</b>The study shows a significant advantage of remnant fiber preservation than remnant fiber resection in double-bundle PCL construction in terms of subjective knee function recovery after operation. There is no significant difference in postoperative knee stability.</p>
