ABSTRACT

In the present study, the authors analyze the activities of the Rabies Service of the National Public Health from 1981 to April 1987. During this period, 3,286 animals were evaluated with direct immunofluorescence and culture. Sixteen of them were positive (13 dogs, 2 cats and 1 rat). Thirteen animals came from Ceuta, two from Melilla and one from Equatorial Guinea. The activities of the Service are described and their results are discussed, with emphasis on the need to keep an epidemiological surveillance through the national territory so as to disclose as early as possible the development of new epizootic foci.
