ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE: Translate and culturally adapt the Hospital Emergency Suitability Protocol (HESP) to Brazilian Portuguese. METHOD: Methodological study, developed from 2019 to 2021, in an emergency hospital, and which followed the stages of translation, synthesis of translations, back-translation, review by an expert committee, pre-test and submission to the authors of the protocol. The sample included four translators, five experts, who assessed conceptual, semantic, cultural, and idiomatic equivalence, 21 nurses and nine physicians, who participated in the pre-test. Content Validity Index (CVI), Cronbach's alpha and Kendall's coefficient of concordance were used. RESULTS: The final version of the adaptation presented Content Validity Index that ranged from 0.40 to 1.0. The internal consistency, according to Cronbach's alpha coefficient, showed Semantic Equivalence (α=0.815), Idiomatic Equivalence (α=0.924), Experiential Equivalence (α=0.682), Conceptual Equivalence (α=0.71), which presented acceptable values, except for the experiential equivalence. Kendall W's coefficient (W=0.14 to 0.58) revealed good reliability. CONCLUSION: The translation and cultural adaptation process of the HESP originated an instrument applicable to the Brazilian context.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE: to map the scientific production on the preservation of forensic traces by Nursing professionals working in emergency services. METHOD: a scoping review, with searches for studies carried out in six databases, in the gray literature available in Google Scholar and in the references of the studies selected. For analysis, the data reduction method was adopted. RESULTS: 26 studies were included, organized into five categories: 1) Nursing professionals' knowledge on the preservation of forensic traces; 2) Procedures performed by Nursing to preserve traces in the victim's body; 3) Procedures performed by Nursing to preserve traces in the victim's belongings/objects; 4) Procedures performed by Nursing to document traces; and 5) Actions to maintain the chain of custody performed by Nursing. CONCLUSION: the studies showed situations in which the emergency nurse may act in the preservation of forensic traces present in the victim's body and in objects, as well as in the registration of traces, verifying the role of Nursing to ensure integrity of the chain of custody, especially in situations of aggression, firearm injury, sexual violence, child abuse and assistance to trauma victims.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE: to assess the effectiveness of using an educational video in comparison with verbal nursing guidelines in increasing older adults' perception of falling risks. METHOD: this is a randomized clinical trial in a cluster, with 138 community older adults, randomized into an intervention group, which watched an educational video, and a control group, which received verbal instructions. The perception of falling risks was assessed by FRAQ-Brazil in the pre-test and after a 30-day follow-up. Student's t-test was used for dependent samples to compare intragroup means and for independent samples to compare intergroup means. The effect size was determined by Cohen's d. RESULTS: in the intragroup analysis, intervention and control groups had an increase in perception, with a statistically significant difference between pre-and post-tests. In the intergroup analysis, the control group showed a greater increase in the perception of falling risks in relation to the intervention group (p = 0.013), with Cohen's d of small effect. CONCLUSION: the use of an educational video and verbal instructions increased older adults' perception of falling risks, with better results in the control group. However, the effect size was small. ABSTRACT

The elderly is a risk group for changes in health conditions and as well as in functional performance related to the decline in grip strength and reduced walking speed, which can compromise the performance of activities of daily living. Based on this, the objective was to analyze the factors associated with functional performance in the elderly. For that, a cross-sectional study was developed involving a group of 179 elderly people who received medical care at an outpatient clinic of the public health network. Muscle strength and gait speed were measured. Nutritional status was determined by Body Mass Index (BMI), calf circumference (CC), waist circumference (WC) and waist-to-hip ratio (WHR). Level of physical activity was measured by the adapted version of the Minnesota Leisure Activities Questionnaire. Low muscle strength was found in 20.7% of the elderly and slow gait in 20.1%. Increased risk of cardiovascular disease was found in 40.8% considering WC, and 35.2% by WHR. Most of the elderly had low weight and no loss of muscle mass. Loss of muscle strength was associated with sex and CC and gait speed were associated with sex, age, and presence of a partner (p < 0.05). The chance of loss of muscle strength and lower gait speed was higher in elderly women. Loss of muscle mass due to CC was associated with the chance of loss of strength, and the chance of reduced walking speed was greater among the elderly individuals aged 75 years and over.

ABSTRACT

ABSTRACT Objective to unveil experts' experiences on traces not preserved by health and safety professionals. Methods qualitative research developed with 27 criminal experts through telephone interview. Data were processed in IraMuTeQ and analyzed by the Descending Hierarchical Classification. Results four thematic classes were obtained that evidenced the existence of a communication gap with the pre-hospital service experienced by experts, who believe that training of these professionals and police officers is necessary. In cases of differentiation between suicide and homicide, experts experience corpse mobilization, in addition to weapon removal from the original location. Health professionals mischaracterize the victim's corpse and leave health care objects, such as gloves and syringes, in place, while police mischaracterize the scene, move objects and do not adequately isolate the scene. Conclusion experts experience forensic traces not preserved by health and safety professionals in the position of objects and the victim's corpse, feel a communication gap and point out the need for training and awareness of professionals. Contribution to practice: the findings can redirect the training of police officers and health professionals who work with crime situations.
