ABSTRACT
Furuncular myiasis is a parasitic infection caused by the larvae of Dipteran insects after penetrating healthy skin, causing an erythematous nodule with a central pore. Additionally, the patient may feel a sensation of movement and intermittent pain. Furuncular myiasis affecting the oral and perioral region is rare, usually leading to misdiagnosis. This paper describes a rare case of furuncular myiasis in a 20-year-old healthy male patient who presented an erythematous nodule in the lower lip. An exploratory surgery was indicated for both diagnostic and curative purposes, with successful healing observed in the following appointment. After 3 years of follow-up, the patient is recovered, with no clinical signs or symptoms of the disease.

Oligodontia is a rare congenital disorder consisting in the absence of six or more teeth. This case report describes a multidisciplinary treatment approach for a 12-year-old male with absence of 11 permanent teeth. Prior to any procedure, all primary teeth were scheduled for extraction due to poor crown-to-root ratio. The treatment plan comprised two phases: 1. orthodontic and speech therapy aimed at overbite and anterior open bite adjustment, as well as tongue position improvement; and 2. prosthetic treatment by insertion of removable temporary partial dentures. The multidisciplinary treatment involving orthodontics, speech and prosthetic therapies have reestablished the masticatory function and aesthetics, allowing the patient to achieve greater self-esteem and better social acceptance.

Resumo A oligodontia é uma doença rara, congênita, caracterizada pela ausência de seis ou mais dentes. Este relato de caso descreve uma abordagem terapêutica multidisciplinar de um adolescente de 12 anos de idade com ausência de 11 dentes permanentes. Antes de qualquer procedimento, todos os dentes decíduos foram extraídos devido à pobre relação coroa-raiz. O plano de tratamento foi constituído por duas fases: 1. terapia ortodôntica e fonoaudiológica com o objetivo de ajuste de sobre-mordida e mordida aberta anterior, bem como melhoria da posição da língua, e 2. tratamento reabilitador protético através da instalação de próteses parciais removíveis provisórias. A abordagem multidisciplinar envolvendo os tratamentos ortodônticos, fonoaudiológico e protético reestabeleceram a função mastigatória e a estética, melhorando a autoestima e aceitação social do paciente. .

Apesar do curto período no qual os dentes decíduos permanecem na cavidade bucal, possuem um papel fundamental no crescimento e desenvolvimento da criança. A perda prematura dos dentes decíduos pode ocasionar vários problemas funcionais, psicológicos e sociais. Objetivo: O presente artigo relata um caso de perda precoce de incisivo central decíduo devido a um trauma. A criança possuía o hábito de colocar e pressionar a língua no espaço correspondente ao dente perdido. Foi proposta a manutenção do espaço com o auxílio de uma prótese fixa adesiva. Conclusão: A prótese fixa adesiva constitui uma solução prática para os casos de perda precoce de dentes anteriores decíduos, pois é de fácil execução, conservadora e preenche os requisitos funcionais e estéticos da criança...
Despite the short period that the deciduous teeth remain in the mouth, they have an important role in the growth and development of the child. The premature loss of deciduous teeth can cause several functional, psychological and social problems. Objective: This article reports a case of early loss of deciduous central incisor due to trauma. The child had a habit of pressing his tongue against the space corresponding to the missing tooth. It was proposed to maintain the space using a fixed adhesive prosthesis. Conclusion: The fixed adhesive prosthesis is a practical solution in cases of early loss of primary teeth since it is easy to perform, conservative and meets the functional and aesthetic requirements of the child...

Simple bone cysts are well-defined intraosseous radiolucencies that often extend between the roots and appear clinically like empty cavities. This article aims to provide more information about this lesion with limited prominence in academic literature, to illustrate atypical cases, and to provide a review of the current literature. A series of six atypical cases of simple bone cysts is presented and their clinical, radiographic and microscopic characteristics, differential diagnosis, treatment and follow-up are discussed. Correct diagnosis of this entity is of key importance, since it presents with clinical & radiographic similarities to other bone lesions, some exhibiting more aggressive behaviour.
