ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE: To investigate and understand the current status of inter-organizational management in relief organizations as well as the relief organizations personnel behavior when facing mass traffic incidents (MCTI). The inter-organizational barriers and facilitators are also discussed in response to MCTI management and in order to help direct future actions to improve pre-hospital emergency services. METHODS: The current qualitative study was performed through face-to-face, semi-structured interviews with 31 individuals from pre-hospital emergency services authorities and personnel, Red Crescent and Yazd, Kohgiluyeh and Boyer-Ahmad, Fars, and Qom provinces police. These provinces were selected by purposive sampling in 2018-2019. The conventional content analysis method was applied to analyze the data in this research. RESULTS: Three main categories and 14 subcategories were determined. The categories are including relief organizations coordination (having four subcategories: independent relief organizations, interdepartmental services integration, insufficient knowledge of organizations about one other, and performance based on job descriptions), resource and infrastructure management (having four subcategories: adverse information management, proper information management, lack of medical resources and capacities considered, and upgrading of medical resources and capacities considered), and response management of relief organizations (having six subcategories: incomplete assessment, improving the quality of assessment, weakness in establishing scene security, scene security management, poor response, and cooperation in response). CONCLUSION: Relief organizations need to perform under a unified command. It has inter-organizational cooperation and provide integration of interdepartmental services in order to manage responsiveness at the scene. It also prevents an independent, chaos, and inability of the injured to properly understand and needs in MCTI.

ABSTRACT

Climate is an effective factor in the ecological structure which plays an important role in control and outbreak of the diseases caused by biological factors like malaria. With regard to the occurring climatic change, this study aimed to review the effects of climate change on malaria in Iran. In this systematic review, Cochrane, PubMed and ScienceDirect (as international databases), SID and Magiran as Persian databases were investigated through MESH keywords including climate change, global warming, malaria, Anopheles, and Iran. The related articles were screened and finally their results were extracted using data extraction sheets. Totally 41 papers were resulted through databases searching process. Finally 14 papers which met inclusion criteria were included in data extraction stage. The findings indicated that Anopheles mosquitoes are present at least in 115 places in Iran; they are compatible with climatic zones of Iran. Malaria and it's vectors are affected by climate change. Temperature, precipitation, relative humidity, wind intensity and direction are the most important climatic factors affecting the growth and proliferation of Anopheles, Plasmodium and the prevalence of malaria. The transmission of malaria in Iran is associated with the climatic factors of temperature, rainfall, and humidity. Therefore, with regard to the occurring climatic change, the incidence of the disease may also change which needs to be taken into consideration while planning of malaria control.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE: It is estimated that road traffic accidents are globally responsible for approximately 1.2 million deaths and 20 to 50 million injuries. About 70% of traffic incidences (TIs) occur in developing countries and among countries with high TI rates; Iran is the first. The aim of this study was to measure the association between being responsible for a traffic accident and some vehicle, human; and environmental related factors in Yasuj, a city with a high incidence of road traffic injuries and deaths in Iran. METHODS: This is a time-, date-, and place-matched case-control study conducted in 2015 using all traffic accidents registered and investigated by police during 2012. In total, 194 drivers were considered the at-fault driver in a traffic accident and the 194 drivers in the same collisions were included in the analysis. RESULTS: Based on the results from multivariate conditional logistic regression, significant associations between vehicle maneuver (ORTurn to right or left/Moving forward = 11.10, 95% confidence interval [CI], 1.77-69.58, P = .01) and age (odds ratio [OR] = 1.11, 95% CI, 1.004-1.22, P = .04) and the chance of being an at-fault driver were found. CONCLUSION: Driver behavior-related interventions including training and law enforcement seem to be more effective in reducing road traffic accidents in Iran.
