ABSTRACT

This work is basically a clinical, radiological and anatomopathological study of two new cases of biaxial, thoracopagus, omphalopagus, conjoined monozygotic twins. Necropsy shows a single heart, diaphragm, liver and umbilical cord in both cases. Ethiopathogenical theories are analyzed, and a simplified classification is established according to the type of union and shared area.

ABSTRACT

Authors present a study on eleven patients affected with congenital syphillis treated during the last six years. All of them presented bone lesions in one or more locations. Familiar antecedents, mechanism of infection, clinical symptoms and radiological findings are analized, emphasizing the importance of prophylaxis and early treatment with procaine penicillin in a dosage of 50,000 U./Kg. day for at least ten days.

ABSTRACT

A case of long-arm deletion of chromosome No. 1: 46,XY, del (1) (q42) is reported. From the revised bibliography only two cases are comparable cytogenetically, not so phenotypically. The usefulness of the recent banding techniques in the precise diagnosis of small structural anomalies of the chromosome is outlined and the difficulty in establishing the relationship between chromosomal alteration and phenotypical characters are commented.

ABSTRACT

We tried to evaluate the utility of the Limulus Test in the diagnosis of acute meningitis. The study was made in 60 patients divided in three groups: Group A, formed by 37 children affected by purulent meningitis of known etiology; Group B, formed by 10 children affected by purulent meningitis of unknown etiology; Group C, formed by 13 children with viral meningitis. The results were compared with a control group (Group D), of 10 healthy children. The results correlated with the etiology, the cuantitative count of germs/ml. in C.S.F. and the clinical evolution. The results indicated that the Test is a rapid, simple and useful tool for the detection of endotoxin in the C.S.F. of purulent meningitis caused by Gram negative germs.
