[The natural killer activity and indices of the interferon status of patients with recurrent genital herpes being treated with ridostin]. / Aktivnost' estestvennykh killerov i pokazateli interferonovogo statusa u bol'nykh retsidiviruiushchim gerpesom genitalii pri lechenii ridostinom.

Natural killer cell activity (NK) in parallel with the interferon (IFN)-alpha and IFN-gamma production as well as with a level of IFN in the blood serum were studied in 15 patients with relapsing herpes genitalis (RHG). Rhidostin, well known as an IFN-alpha inducer, was used in a dose of 2 mg once daily for 3 days subcutaneously up to a total dose of 8 mg of the preparation. The NK cell activity and IFN-alpha production were shown to decrease in RHG more significantly in the stage of remission than during the relapse of the process. As a result of rhidostin therapy the NK cell activity was restored simultaneously with the positive clinical effect of the drug. Rhidostin was found to be an efficient modifier of the IFN system functioning in patients with RHG. The above data allow a conclusion that rhidostin exhibiting an independent antiviral and immunostimulating action might be useful in patients with a remission of RHG for prevention of its relapses.

[Experience with the combined treatment of recurrent herpes using larifan and a herpetic vaccine]. / Opyt kombinirovannogo lecheniia retsidiviruiushchego gerpesa larifanom i gerpeticheskoi vaktsinoi.

Interferon inductor larifan used parenterally was combined with herpetic vaccine to treat severe recurrent herpes in 32 patients. This combination therapy started at initiation of herpetic infection activation and resulted in amelioration of the clinical symptoms of the recurrence, a more favourable course of the disease due to stimulation of the interferon system and natural killer activity. In combination the above modalities proved more effective than in monotherapy.

The paper presents analysis of current knowledge on etiology and immunopathogenesis of multiform exudative erythema (MEE). Among a variety of pathogenetic actions of herpes simplex on immune system are those relevant to MEE onset. These variants are dealt with in detail. The view on MEE as resultant from herpes simplex infection promises appearance of new prospective modes of etiotropic therapy.

[Roaccutan in the therapy of severe manifestations of acne vulgaris and rosacea]. / Roakkutan v terapii tiazhelykh proiavlenii vul'garnykh ugrei i rozatsea.

Roakkutan was used in the treatment of 49 patients with severe acne vulgaris and 8 patients with rosacea. The treatment was highly effective. The primary and maintenance daily doses of the drug are suggested and the terms of therapy defined.
