ABSTRACT

The aim of this study was to examine whether a lecture on hypnosis can modify attitudes and misconceptions about hypnosis. The sample consisted of 97 health professionals from institutions in Havana City, Cuba. Group 1 consisted of 46 participants who received a lecture on hypnosis. Group 2 consisted of 51 participants who received a lecture about urology. and Beliefs toward Hypnosis-Therapist was applied before and after the lecture. Results indicated that there were significant differences between the groups: Group 1 showed more positive attitudes toward hypnosis. However, both groups showed similar misconceptions about hypnosis and memory, which changed significantly in Group 1 after receiving the lecture about hypnosis but not in Group 2. Therefore, the lecture about hypnosis had a significant impact in correcting participants' misconceptions about memory and hypnosis.

ABSTRACT

Depression —a phenomenon of increasing epidemiologic values— has captured top-priority heed on the part of healthcare experts. This research paper assesses, based on a sample of Cuban adults, the Scale of the Center for Epidemiologic Depression Studies (CES-D), a tool that has shown throughout time adequate psychometric features in its application. To fulfill this aim, the assessment was made in a non-probational sample made up of 117 allegedly healthy individuals between 18 and 55 years of age. The CES-D, the Riquelme Inventory of Depressive Symptoms (ISR) and the Depression Feature-State Inventory (IDERE) were used. The scale showed good reliability and a factorial structure in keeping with the outcomes reported by other authors. The wrap-up points are in sync with the original proposal, and so are the validation studies. Correlations with other tools provided abundant evidence of concurring validity(AU)

ABSTRACT

Aparece normalmente asociado a punciones lumbares y/o a discrasias sanguíneas.

Spinal subdural hematoma is extremely rare. It is normally associated to lumbar puncture and/or blood disorders. We present the case of 78-year-old man with a history of oral anticoagulant treatment that presented with a sudden neurologic motor deficit in the lower limbs. We describe the MRI findings, which were confirmed at surgery. We emphasize the importance of MRI both in the early identification of the hematic collection, as immediate surgical treatment may be necessary, and in the follow-up of these patients, as it is essential in the evaluation of atrophy of the spinal cord and signs of arachnoiditis

ABSTRACT

The occurrence of osteoid osteomas of the hand is rare and their treatment usually is surgical. A 26-year-old man with an osteoid osteoma in the proximal phalanx of the right middle finger was treated with percutaneous radiofrequency ablation. Two years later he remains free of pain and finger function is normal.
