ABSTRACT

Haematological profile of patients with oral sub mucous fibrosis (OSMF) and its correlation with the severity of OSMF is evaluated. The study comprised of sixty participants with clinical diagnoses. They were divided into smaller groups based on the OSMF stage. Sixty age and gender matched healthy controls were chosen among patients presenting for routine hematological examinations and free of systemic illnesses. Assessment of iron, hemoglobin, and red cell indices in all study participants was carried out. It was observed that the values of haematological tests like (Hb (g/dL), PCV, MCV (fl), MCH, MCHC, Iron (mg/dL) and Vitamin B12 (pg/Ml) was greater in normal subjects as compared to OSMF patients. Values were found to decrease further as the severity (staging) of OSMF increased among OSMF patients. The findings were statistically significant showing decrease in the values of different haematological parameters as the stage of OSMF progressed from stage I to stage III.

ABSTRACT

Mobile dental vehicle (MDVs) can be adopted to address the oral healthcare needs of different populations. Therefore, it is of interest to evaluate mobile dental clinic program in providing oral health services to underserved rural communities. A 2 x 2.5 meter box trailer is used by the UN, and it can be carried by a vehicle with all-wheel drive for all types of weather. There was a small box trailer with its weather proof canvas cover extended, changing it into four dental operators and an integrated waiting and teaching space. Clinical examination, scaling, polishing, health education, individual and group teaching in dental hygiene, fluoride applications, fissure sealants, amalgam and composite restorations, extractions, and minor oral surgery were all supplied at no cost to the patients. In a longitudinal study of 3 years in underserved rural areas, a total of 6326 patients were provided different dental treatments. It was found that 93.3% patients did not undergo any dental treatment in the past.

ABSTRACT

It has become more common that after a mandibular third molar impaction operation, platelet concentrates have been shown to be useful in aiding the healing process. The patients were examined on day 1, day 2, day 3, day 7, the first month, and the second month following surgery. There was a slew of parameters to investigate and tally up. Materials and Methods: A total of 15 people with impacted mandibular third molars were included in the research. Patients' own blood platelets were used to make the transfusion more effective. One of the sockets was selected at random to serve as the test side. Instead of the other connector, the control socket was utilized. Results: There was no statistical difference between the test and control groups when it came to pain or soft tissue healing, according to a Mann-Whitney U test used to analyze the data. T test was performed to check for edema and density in the bones. Bone density measurements on the test side were significant, whereas measurements of edema on the test side were not. There was no alveolar osteitis on any of the subjects' limbs. Conclusion: Bone and soft tissue healing may be aided by platelet-rich plasma (PRP). Several growth components are included, which aid in the healing process.

ABSTRACT

CONTEXT: In India, oral cancer accounts for one-third of all cancers. Early detection and immediate intervention can lead to marked reduction in the morbidity and mortality. In India, Ayurveda and homeopathy practitioners are distributed widely in rural and urban areas and are easily accessible. Until date, no assessment on their oral cancer knowledge and practice has been done. AIMS: The present study was undertaken to evaluate the knowledge, awareness, and practice concerning oral cancer. SUBJECTS AND METHODS: Questionnaire comprising 15 questions was distributed to 42 Ayurveda and 38 homeopathy doctors in Davangere District, Karnataka, India, assessing their oral examination habits, knowledge on the risk factors, patient education, clinical signs of the disease and its treatment. STATISTICAL ANALYSIS USED: The results were analyzed using Chi-square test. RESULTS: Lesser number of the practitioners routinely examined oral mucosa (16.7% and 5.3%, respectively). Fewer advised their patients about the risk factors (2.4% and 2.6%). Less positive response was obtained for the correct method for confirmation of diagnosis (28.6% and 15.8%). Many doctors agreed that they had not undergone training in cancer institute (P = 0.29). Twenty-three (54.8%) Ayurveda and 28 (73.7%) homeopathy doctors opined that they did not have sufficient knowledge regarding early detection and prevention of oral cancer and many were desirous of receiving further information (97.6% and 84.2% respectively). CONCLUSIONS: This study attempts to highlight the need for improving the oral cancer knowledge and awareness among practicing Ayurveda and homeopathy doctors.

ABSTRACT

Modern advances in all phases of dentistry have provided the opportunity for patients to maintain a functional dentition for lifetime. Therapeutic measures performed to ensure retention of teeth vary in complexity. The treatment may involve combining restorative dentistry, endodontics, and periodontics so that the teeth are retained in whole or in part. Thus, tooth resection procedures are used to preserve as much tooth structure as possible rather than sacrificing the whole tooth. This treatment can produce predictable results as long as proper diagnostic, endodontic, surgical, prosthetic, and maintenance procedures are performed. The keys to long-term success appear to be thorough diagnosis, selection of patients with good oral hygiene and careful surgical and restorative management.

ABSTRACT

AIMS AND OBJECTIVES: To determine the association between smoking, chewing tobacco (gutka), and age of individual on graying of hair. MATERIALS AND METHODS: The present study was conducted on 120 patients attending the Outpatient Department of the DJ College of Dental Sciences and Research, Modinagar, UP. The individuals were classified into four groups (group I, II, III, IV) on the basis of the form of tobacco use (smoking or chewing). The Pearson correlation coefficient was utilized to find the correlation between the mean percentage of individuals with gray hair, risk multiplication factor (RMF), and age of the individual. RESULTS: Mean percentage of individual with gray hair and RMF (r = 0.6487) are found to be positively associated. A significant and positive correlation was observed between the age of the individual and the frequency of individuals with gray hair. CONCLUSION: This study suggests that there is a significant association between tobacco use and aging on graying of hair.
