ABSTRACT
A case of leiomyosarcoma of the spermatic cord occurring in a 62-year-old man is reported. The English literature on the topic is briefly reviewed.

A 56-year-old man had a deeply invasive leiomyosarcoma of the right buttock. Leiomyosarcomas of the skin and subcutaneous tissues are rare, and most occur on the extremities. Wide local excision is the therapy of choice.

A primary squamous cell carcinoma occurring in the prostate of a sixty-nine-year-old man is described. A radical excision that included cystoprostatectomy, total penectomy, scrotectomy, pubic symphysiectomy, and abdominoperineal resection of rectum was done. The patient died of systemic metastases six months after diagnosis. Review of the literature suggests that such a cancer of the prostate is rare, highly aggressive, and responds poorly to any mode of therapy. Histogenesis of this tumor remains controversial; however, it probably does not originate from the prostatic acinar cells.

Chondrosarcoma of the foot is very rare. Secondary malignant transformation of a solitary enchondroma of the foot occurring in a 66-year-old man is reported. A rapid increase in size of a previously known enchondroma and pain may suggest a malignant transformation. Surgical resection is the choice of therapy.

A rare case of synovial chondromatosis of the knee occurring in a 65-year-old man is reported. Electron microscopy of the lesion suggests that the cartilaginous nodules develop through a process of metaplasia from the stromal fibroblasts.

We report a case of human penile ossification with roentgenologic and histologic confirmation. The English literature is reviewed, and the pathogenesis of such a rare lesion is presented. Penile ossification appears to be an acquired metaplastic process occurring in an area of fibrosis.

Radiologic evaluation disclosed a renal tumor and a calcified mass in the right kidney of a 45-year-old man. The resected kidney revealed that a renal cell carcinoma had invaded the renal pelvis and the polypoid intrapelvic portion had undergone calcification resulting in a pseudocalculus.

Papillary carcinoma of the thyroid usually spreads to the lymph nodes. Vascular metastatic spread is unusual. We report a case of papillary carcinoma of the thyroid with extensive vascular dissemination and remarkable intraglomerular metastases to both kidneys.

Small-cell carcinoma of the prostate is rare, but lethal. We report on 2 cases and review another 6 cases reported in the English literature. Microscopically the tumor may be pure small-cell carcinoma like that seen in the lung or may have a mixed pattern of adenocarcinoma with small-cell carcinoma. This tumor most probably arises from the basal or reserve cells of the prostatic acini. The totipotential basal cells have dual capacity for differentiation into adenocarcinoma and small-cell carcinoma.

Fibroma of the tendon sheath is a distinct clinicopathologic entity rarely occurring on the foot. It is a benign tumor derived from the fibroblast that clinically appears as a slow-growing painless mass. Complete surgical excision is curative. Recurrence occurs in 24% of the cases, usually due to inadequate excision. This report describes a 36-year-old man with such a tumor of the foot.

Autopsy records of ten patients aged 40 or younger with colorectal carcinoma were reviewed. The local and metastatic spread of the cancer was similar to that seen in colorectal cancers occurring in older people. Colorectal cancer in young people is biologically not more aggressive or virulent than that in older patients.

Three patients with carcinoma of the first and the third part of the duodenum are reported. A review of the literature shows the diagnosis of this rare lesion of the duodenum is usually late. In order for surgical resection to be successful, suspicion of such a lesion and an aggressive workup is needed.
