ABSTRACT

Similarities and dissimilarities of 3 third generation calcium antagonist (amlodipine, lacidipine and lercanidipine) are presented. Lacidipine is characterized by prolonged antihypertensive action despite its plasma half life is just about 14 hours. Duration of lacidipine effect can be explained by accumulation in lipid bilayer of cellular membranes where it interacts with calcium channels. Pharmacodynamics of lacidipine is discussed in detail as well as experience of its use in hypertension including data of ELSA study which has demonstrated ability of lacidipine to inhibit progression of carotid artery atherosclerosis.

ABSTRACT

The use of reversed-phase HPLC with UV detection at 254 nm for the separation of stereoisomers of nucleoamino acids, namely, pyrimidyl and purinyl derivatives of alanine, after premodification with o-phthalic aldehyde and N-acetyl-L-cysteine was studied. The use of 0.01 M phosphate buffer (pH 7.0) containing 5% acetonitrile as a mobile phase resulted in satisfactory separation. The range of the detectable amounts of nucleoamino acids was 0.08-1.0 nmol. This method was used for monitoring the formation of stereoisomers in the hydrolysis of N-phenylacetylcytosinylalanine.

ABSTRACT

Imbalance was revealed in the proportions of T-lymphocyte subpopulations in those persons engaged in activity in mining employment who had been exposed to a complex of the radiation accident factors. Maximum reduction in the lymphocyte suppressor activity was recordable in those patients in whom the doses of radioactive irradiation received exceeded 25 s Gy. Depression was found of humoral immunity manifested by a drop in the absolute as well as relative numbers of B-lymphocytes and fall in the blood serum levels of Ig G, A. The results of study of clinical-biochemical and immunologic parameters of blood permit individualized therapies be developed, prophylactic measures to be devised to deal with the relevant pathologic processes and conditions in the cohorts examined.

ABSTRACT

In experiments with two tissue culture lines it was shown, that cytotoxicity of mercury (1) derivatives (measured by CL50) is lesser two times, than it was for mercury (2) derivates. No significant differences in cytotoxicity were noted by the cell morphology and monolayer mitosis activity coefficient studies. This demonstrates the equal toxicity and dangerous to both derivates.

ABSTRACT

Workers engaged in the production of inorganic manganese salts revealed lesions of the upper respiratory pathways (catarrhal and subatrophic rhinitis, pharyngitis, laryngitis), skin (contact and allergic dermatitis), cardiovascular disorders. They also showed changes of renal function, mineral metabolism, acid stability of erythrocytes. Activation of the B-system of immunity and allergization of the body are also observed.

ABSTRACT

The workers engaged in the processing of the UP-671, UP-671D, UP-677, UP-680 and UP-682 epoxide resins are influenced by both initial and intermediate industrial products, as well as the resins' volatile components in MAC threshold concentrations. The workers engaged in major professions displayed upper respiratory allergic diseases, contact and allergic dermatitis, sensibilization to epichlorhydrine, staphylococci and kidney allergen. Euthyroid goiter was diagnosed in most workers, along with thriiodothyronine decrease in blood serum and a higher rate of chromosomal aberrations in lymphocytes. The experimental studies performed revealed moderate-degree toxicity in the resins, their cumulation properties, as well as allergenic, irritating, mutagenic and embryotoxic characteristics. Basing on the results of the study, the USSR Health Ministry adopted the working zone air MAC for the resins at the level of 0.5 mg/m3, vapours, 2nd degree of hazardousness.

ABSTRACT

It was established that industrial shops engaged in zinc compounds' processing were characterized by considerable temperature shifts, relative humidity and air motion changes. In drying and packing shops, concentrations of the final product dusts were established at 0.8-2 mg/m3. The major occupational pathology was constituted by skin and upper respiratory tract diseases, including allergic and contact dermatitis, chronic pharyngitis, tonsillitis and rhinitis. Blood tests revealed B-lymphocytes: increases, circulating immune complexes and considerable levels of lymphocytic spontaneous blastotransformations. Erythrocytic acidic hemolysis was markedly changed, which proved disbalances in the system of red blood.

ABSTRACT

The proposed study of the immunologic reactivity state in chemical plant workers revealed humoral and cellular reactivity changes caused by chemical agents and the workers' immunologic background. It was established that cobalt and manganese salts caused initial immune response.

ABSTRACT

It was established that the major hazardous factor in nitrate, sulphate and manganese basic carbonate processing shops was the dust of the final product. Upper respiratory tract (catarrhal, subatrophic rhinitis, pharyngitis, laryngitis), skin (allergic and contact dermatitis) and cardiac disorders were specified as the predominant pathology among manganese compounds processing shop workers. Mineral exchange disorders, lowered glucose content in the blood and violation in the acid persistence of the erythrocytes were revealed through medical examinations.
