ABSTRACT

Wegener granulomatosis involves both the respiratory and genitourinary systems. Kidney lesions are invariably focal. Wegener granulomatosis only rarely affects other genitourinary organs and, until now, has not been described as a mass in the kidney. In the case presented, the diagnosis was unknown before surgery, though clinically suspected. The management, which included nephrectomy and chemotherapy with cyclophosphamide (Cytoxan) and prednisone, caused a marked improvement, and the patient was discharged in stable condition.

ABSTRACT

The rapid increase in the number of vascular surgical procedures done has led to a new class of iatrogenic ureteral injuries. Vena caval ligation, bilateral lumbar sympathectomy, bypass procedures and abdominal aortic aneurysmectomy produce the majority of these injuries. Established principles useful in the repair of iatrogenic injuries following a gynecologic or colonic operation often are inapplicable.

ABSTRACT

The cobra-shaped distal ureter is not pathognomonic of a ureterocele. It may be seen with incomplete distal ureteral obstruction owing to tumor or calculus. The appearance of the wall surrounding the dilated distal ureteral segment is a more important finding to differentiate a ureterocele and a pseudoureterocele. The wall of a ureterocele is thin, while the lucency surrounding a pseudoureterocele is thicker and poorly defined.
