ABSTRACT

PIP: There is increasing evidence that almost any cell is capable of producing another complete organism. Since each cell is potentially a human person, the cell is no different than an ovum. The time at which a fetus becomes a person is thus the serious question. Since the cerebral cortex does not reach the stage of self-awareness before the sixth month, abortion before that time is not killing a human person. The Catholic Church's stand against abortion and contraception should be changed to enable people to make their own decisions in reproductive and sexual matters.^ieng
