ABSTRACT

The aim of the investigation was to study the course of the isokinetic parameters--peak torque, time range of tension development and fatigue index--in an age range from 13 to 19 years and to compare the results with those of competitive athletes of the same age specifically trained in running. For this purpose measurements of the flexors and extensors in the upper ankle joint, knee and hip were taken. The average for the six muscle groups correlated significantly in all three parameters not only with the age development but also with the degree of training. The individual muscle groups, however, differed widely. An increased frequency of injuries by certain ratios of peak torques between flexors and extensors was not found. Instead already in the physiological age development occurred relations that were connected with an increased frequency of injuries. Prospectively this suggests that the time range of tension development has additional influence here.

ABSTRACT

We report about a lymphoblastomic sarcoma of the Burkitt type with a seventeen year old young man. The Burkitt lymphoma occupies a special position among the malignant tumours and occurs rarely in temperate zones. From the clinical and histological point of view, we found the typical image of a unilocular Burkitt tumor. It was not possible to verify an elevated titre of antibodies against the Epstein-Barr virus.

ABSTRACT

Among 17,676 patients admitted to our clinic between 1965 and 1974, we have observed 22 cases of malignant deuteropathy-either after cytostatic therapy or radiation, or as "spontaneous" primary multiple tumors. Their catamneses were analyzed. Seven cases raise a strong suspicion that cytostatic therapy may have induced a cancer. A statistical analysis is not possible with our group of patients. To avoid an inadmissible evaluation of these individual observations, they were compared with the 10 "spontaneous" double tumors observed during the same period. Advances in our knowledge of this field are, in our opinion, to be expected of central cancer registers.

ABSTRACT

Since agranulocytosis is in principal a curable condition with modern treatment, recurrences must be reckoned with in sensitized patients. They are relatively frequent. Recurrence occurred in eight of 17 patients. One patient had three recurrences, the last one 18 years after the first. In an Italian woman nine recurrences due to aminophenazone occurred within six years. Since sensitization does not disappear spontaneously, a recurrence may also occur in patients who have had one episode of agranulocytosis. Sensitizing drugs must be strictly avoided to prevent such recurrences: their presence in drug mixtures must be guarded against. But once a patient is sensitized he may react with agranulocytosis to various types of drugs.
