ABSTRACT
Carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA) was assayed by radioimmunoassay in serum of 47 patients with cystic ovarian tumors, in 51 cases of cyst fluids of ovarian tumors and ovarian cysts, and in 16 cases of peritoneal effusions (ascites). In order to differentiate between cystic tumors and retentional cysts there was found, in consideration of a changed prevalence (0.65), a sensitivity of 55% and a specificity of 94%. The predictive value in regard to a positive assay result was 94% and in regard to a negative one was 53%. Elevated CEA-levels in ovarian tumor cyst fluids are mainly diagnostic for mucinous ovarian tumors. In regard to elevated CEA-levels in cyst fluids of ovarian tumors it is claimed the laparotomy and histological investigation.

Pathomorphology, clinic and therapy of endodermal sinus tumor in pregnancy are explained and discussed by means of a women of 25 years. The importance of estimation of alpha-fetoprotein with regard to diagnosis and follow up is referred, too. The prognosis in former times very bad could be improved by a combination of radical surgery and polychemotherapy.

In 114 cases material of spontaneous abortion was examined histologically. Analysis allows a partial diagnosis of causes in spontaneous abortion and in trophoblastic tumours.

Reported in this paper are diagnostic and therapeutic results obtained from 424 cases of diagnostic conisation. The incidence of postoperative bleeding was as low as 2.1 per cent, provided skilled use of the technique and suturing without infiltration. Diagnostic statement "no reliable removal of carcinoma in situ from intact tissue" should be widely avoided and forestalled by careful surgical approach to diagnostic conisation.

Optical light microscopy was used to examine 1,198 umbilical cords. Recorded were inflammatory changes in 3.5 per cent of all cases and aplasia of the umbilical artery in 1.3 per cent. The findings were compared to clinical parameters. Accumulated occurrence of meconium-stained or fetid amniotic fluid was one of the conspicuous findings. While foetal behaviours were quite inconspicuous during and immediately after parturition, inflammatory infiltration of the umbilical cord was recordable later on from 42 per cent of clinical infections.

200 intraoperative biopsies of mamma tumors are demonstrated. Carcinomas of mamma are divided due to frequency of histological type. Intraoperative diagnostic procedures are valuable to confirme malignant tumors, especially that patients are to be spared of second operation day.

From 1.10.1974 to 29.2.1976 in Wismar a cervical cancer screening on computerbase was performed. The participation of the female population (20 to 65 years) was relative high, with 74,9%, results are discussed. In 12702 investigations 12 cases of dysplasia (severe degree), 41 carcinomata in situ and 14 cases of invasive cervical cancer were revealed.

After legislation of therapeutic abortion in 1972 number of spontaneous abortions decreased about 30 per cent. In this paper causes, pathologic diagnosis, other diagnostic procedures and treatment of threatened abortions are discussed. Cytogenetic and ultrasonic methods should be extended. The effect of treatment in threatened abortions is still now not sure.

Since 1. 3. 1972 cytologic laboratory exists at the Medical Center Wismar, Dept. of Obstetrics and Gynecology. Correlation between positive smears and histologic results was registered in 96% (1972 to 1973). In the time before (1969 to 1971) the correlation was only 41% caused by inexperienced investigators. Diagnostic conizations were frequent not indicated. Cytologic examinations are claimed to be carried out by special laboratories only.

PIP: The effects of a combination of 4 or 5 mg quinestrol and 10 mg chlormadinone acetate on the female genitalia were studied in 15 women on the 14th, 21st, and 28th days of the cycle. The cervicotropic effect of quinestrol was stronger (studied by cervical mucus, Fern test, and opening of the os uteri) than its endometrial effect. Hormone withdrawal bleeding occurred overwhelmingly from proliferated endometrium. The chlormadinone acetate dose of 10 mg was sufficient to provoke an endometrial secretion in only 4 cases. Cervical, vaginal, and endometrial findings were functionally consistent.^ieng
