ABSTRACT

The subject of this report is an improved technique for sonographic examination of the scrotum and the testes. The method is simple; by using a waterbath, a mechanical compression of the testes is avoided. In all sections the scrotum may be continually observed and a good picture reproduction is possible. The report concerns the results of a prospective examination of 37 patients. The diagnoses of their condition could be confirmed by surgery or by follow-up examinations.

ABSTRACT

Scintigrams in prone and standing positions were done in 11 hypertensive women. All had nephroptosis with ventral rotation. On the basis of the renograms, seven patients were identified as suffering from orthostatic hypertension. Nephropexy resulted in normalization of blood pressure in six of the seven patients and normalization of the renograms of all seven. We believe that sequence scintigrams in prone and standing positions offer a simple method of identifying patients with orthostatic hypertension.

ABSTRACT

Two separate populations, one consisting of 100 patients with renal stones and one consisting of 81 patients with nephroptosis were examined to determine whether an association may exist between excessive renal mobility and renal stone formation. The statistical analysis of the data suggests a direct relationship between nephroptosis and the occurrence of renal stones.

ABSTRACT

The present study evaluates the isotope renograms, obtained in prone and upright position of 87 patients with 93 mobile kidneys. Scintiphotos were made to determine the extent of renal movement. The transient position abnormality of the kidney was compared to the position dependent isotope renogram changes. It was possible to describe three types of floating kidney each with a characteristic motion and position dependent function disturbance. One form of renal ptosis, ptosis with ventral rotation, was commonly associated with a 2nd phase renogram abnormality and with hypertension.
