ABSTRACT

3D neuromorphic hardware system is first demonstrated in neuromorphic application as on-chip level by integrating array devices with CMOS circuits after wafer bonding (WB) and interconnection process. The memory window of synaptic device is degraded after WB and 3 Dimesional (3D) integration due to process defects and thermal stress. To address this degradation, Ag diffusion in materials of Ta2O5 and HfO2 is studied in a volatile memristor, furthermore, the interconnection and gate metal Ru are investigated to reduce defective traps of gate interface in non-volatile memory devices. As a result, a memory window is improved over 106 in both types of devices. Improved and 3D integrated 12 × 14 array devices are identified in the synaptic characteristics according to the change of the synaptic weight from the interconnected Test Element Group (TEG) of the Complementary Metal Oxide Semiconductor (CMOS) circuits. The trained array devices present recognizable image of letters, achieving an accuracy rate of 92% when utilizing a convolutional neural network, comparing the normalized accuracy of 93% achieved by an ideal synapse device. This study proposes to modulate the memory windows up to 106 in an integrated hardware-based neural system, considering the possibility of device degradation in both volatile and non-volatile memory devices demonstrated by the hardware neural system.

ABSTRACT

The development of data-intensive computing methods imposes a significant load on the hardware, requiring progress toward a memory-centric paradigm. Within this context, ternary content-addressable memory (TCAM) can become an essential platform for high-speed in-memory matching applications of large data vectors. Compared to traditional static random-access memory (SRAM) designs, TCAM technology using non-volatile resistive memories (RRAMs) in two-transistor-two-resistor (2T2R) configurations presents a cost-efficient alternative. However, the limited sensing margin between the match and mismatch states in RRAM structures hinders the potential of using memory-based TCAMs for large-scale architectures. Therefore, this study proposes a practical device engineering method to improve the switching response of conductive-bridge memories (CBRAMs) integrated with existing complementary metal-oxide-semiconductor (CMOS) transistor technology. Importantly, this work demonstrates a significant improvement in memory window reaching 1.87 × 107 by incorporating nanocavity arrays and modifying electrode geometry. Consequently, TCAM cells using nanocavity-enhanced CBRAM devices can exhibit a considerable increase in resistance ratio up to 6.17 × 105, thereby closely approximating the sensing metrics observed in SRAM-based TCAMs. The improved sensing capability facilitates the parallel querying of extensive data sets. TCAM array simulations using experimentally verified device models indicate a substantial sensing margin of 65× enabling a parallel search of 2048 bits.

ABSTRACT

Surgeons should select one side for cervical unilateral open door laminoplasty (UODL). However, few reports suggest proper guidelines for deciding which side to open. The aim of this study is to evaluate the impact of opening side in UODL on dominant cord compressive or symptomatic side. 193 degenerative cervical myeloradiculopathy patients with followed-up more than 2 years were enrolled. In all cases, UODL was performed uniformly on the right side. Patients were sub-grouped based on preoperative dominant 3 characteristics: cord compression, myelopathy symptom and radiculopathy symptom (right, symmetric, left). Pre- and postoperative radiographic and clinical parameters and incidence of postoperative C5 palsy were analyzed and compared among the groups. According to dominant compressive side, there were no significant differences in postoperative radiographic and clinical parameters among three groups. According to dominant myelopathy or radiculopathy symptom side, there were no significant differences of all radiographic and clinical parameters postoperatively, except slightly lower neck VAS in groups of preoperative right dominant myelopathy or radiculopathy symptom side at postoperative 1 month. C5 palsies occurred in twelve patients (6.2%), but the incidences were not different among the groups. Therefore, when performing UODL, the choice of lamina opening side can be left to surgeon's preference.

ABSTRACT

PURPOSE: This study evaluated the effect of drilling speed on early bone healing in the mandible of dogs. MATERIAL AND METHODS: Six dogs were selected, and mandibular premolars and molars were extracted. After 2 months, 3 hydroxyapatite-surfaced fixtures were implanted with drilling speeds of 50, 800, and 1200 rpm on the right side first and then on the left side after 2 weeks. Implant stability quotient (ISQ) was measured on insertion, after 2 and 4 weeks. RESULTS: Based on the ISQ measurement, the 1200-rpm group showed a higher value than the 50-rpm group at 2 weeks and 4 weeks (P < 0.05). New bone formation around the implant was highest for the 800-rpm group at 2 weeks and the 1200-rpm group at 4 weeks. The bone-implant contact of the superior half of the alveolar bone was highest for the 800-rpm group at 2 weeks and the 1200-rpm group at 4 weeks. There was no statistically significant difference. CONCLUSION: This study suggests that 50, 800, and 1200 rpm are drilling speeds which can expect favorable outcome, yet, higher drilling speed presented overall the best biological responses.

ABSTRACT

Nevoid basal cell carcinoma syndrome (NBCCS), also known as Gorlin syndrome, is characterized by various embryological deformities and carcinoma formation. It is caused by PTCHI gene mutations and is autosomal dominantly inherited. Some of the main symptoms of NBCCS are multiple basal cell carcinomas, multiple keratocystic odontogenic tumors (KCOTs) of the mandible, hyperkeratosis of the palmar and plantar, skeletal deformity, calcification of the falx cerebri, and facial defomity. Recurrent KCOT is the main symptom of NBCCS and is present in approximately 90% of patients. In NBCCS, KCOTs typically occur in multiples. KCOTs can be detected in patients under the age of 10, and new and recurring cysts develop until approximately the age of 30. The postoperation recurrence rate is approximately 60%. This case report presents a 14-year-old female patient with a chief complaint of a cyst found in the maxilla and mandible. The patient was diagnosed with NBCCS, and following treatment of marsupialization and enucleation, the clinical results were satisfactory.
