ABSTRACT

The correction of radiation-induced immunodeficiency and hematopoiesis depression in clinical setting (100 patients) and in experiments (160 animals) by peptide preparations of the thymus and bone marrow (thymalin, hemalin, thymogemine and synthetic thymalin analog thymogen) has been studied. Administration of the bone marrow and thymus recovery of damage to the thymus, bone marrow, spleen and lymph nodes, improved the function of circulating neutrophilic granulocytes. Thymalin was able to compensate for immune disturbances and reduce manifestations of asthenia.

ABSTRACT

This study gathers the results of epidemiological examination in training military unit, making evaluation of prophylactic efficiency of timogen, i.e. synthetic peptide of thymus for flu and other acute respiratory infections (ARI). The high clinico-epidemiological efficiency of timogen was proved in intranasal and subcutaneous administration that had led to a considerable reduction of morbidity rate, gravity and duration of ARI. Experimental substantiation for timogen administration was obtained that proved its efficiency for flu and other ARI prophylaxis in military units.

ABSTRACT

Thymogen, a new immunomodulating drug made in this country, was used in combined therapy of 46 patients with acute endomyometritis, exacerbations of chronic salpingo-oophoritis, purulent tubo-ovarian formations. Thymogen therapy was conducive to normalization of lymphocyte counts, absolute counts of T and B lymphocytes, increase of T lymphocyte functional activity. The drug is characterized by a desensitizing effect and induces no complications. Marked clinical effect recommends the immunomodulator thymogen for combined therapy of patients with inflammatory diseases of the uterus and its appendages.

ABSTRACT

Biochemical and immunological indexes of peripheral blood were compiled in military sanatorium "Divnomorskoe" in seamen who have suffered from general supercooling in the result of "Komsomolets" atomic submarine breakdown. The patients had the symptoms of metabolic disturbance, immunodepression, a great concentration of proteins in acute phase and activity of MB-fraction of creatine phosphokinase. Immunodepression after the general supercooling was mainly conditioned by oppression of differentiation, metabolic changes and functional activity of T-lymphocytes. A course of immunocorrective therapy was employed using "thymogen"--synthetic peptide of thymus. In the process of rehabilitation there was a gradual functional recovery, normalization of metabolism and immunological indexes.

ABSTRACT

Exposure of an organism to ionizing radiation causes a drastic decrease of immunity and nonspecific resistance as well an impairment of haemopoiesis. Peptide preparations from the thymus and bone marrow normalize the immunological reactivity and haemopoiesis of irradiated animals. Their mixture favors the recovery of haemopoiesis and immunogenesis after irradiation.

ABSTRACT

Monoclonal antibodies were used to study the T and B immunity systems in 60 alcoholic patients suffering from pulmonary tuberculosis. The patients with that combined pathology demonstrated marked immunodeficiency as regards the T system and an increase of humoral immunity. It is assumed that one of the main causes of immunodeficiency lies in the blockade of the differentiation of T cells at the stage of T prothymocytes. The rise of the level of humoral immunity is connected to a decline of T suppressors. Administration of thymalin to patients with associated alcoholism and pulmonary tuberculosis was found to be highly effective.

ABSTRACT

The effects of thymic peptide (thymalin), bone marrow peptide (haemalin) and a complex compound (thymohaemin) on the haematopoiesis and immunity were studied in the experimental model of the induced haematopoiesis depression. Lymphopoiesis stimulation in the bone marrow was provoked by thymalin and granulopoiesis stimulation by haemalin. Simultaneously the restoration of a number of both T- and B-lymphocytes in the thymus was observed. Thymohaemin resulted in the restoration of practically all peripheral blood and bone marrow indexes as well as content of T- and B-lymphocytes in both central and peripheral immunogenetic organs. Likewise the use of the thymus and bone marrow peptide preparations facilitated the restoration of non-specific resistance which was evaluated by means of an integral index--lysosomal cation test. The results allow us to recommend the above preparations for a clinical trial in the haematopoiesis depletion.
