ABSTRACT

AIM: To explore the magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) differences between pancreatic neuroendocrine tumour grade 3 (pNET-G3) and pancreatic neuroendocrine carcinoma grade 3 (pNEC-G3). MATERIALS AND METHODS: Between 2009 and 2019, 31 patients underwent pNEN-G3 resection with preoperative MRI in two local hospitals in China. The 31 patients were assigned to a pNET-G3 group (n=13) or a pNEC-G3 group (n=18). The MRI findings between the groups were compared. RESULTS: There was no statistically significant difference between the two groups in lesion size, clinical characteristics, or laboratory indexes. The lesions showed high or slightly higher signal on diffusion-weighted imaging and decreased apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) values, which differed between the two groups (p=0.013). The difference between the groups regarding positive enhancement integral, arterial phase and portal phase signal enhancement ratio were statistically significant; however, the delayed phase signal enhancement ratio was not significantly different. CONCLUSIONS: pNET-G3 and pNEC-G3 showed different characteristics on MRI. In particular, the ADC value and dynamic enhanced imaging could have an important role in distinguishing between the two.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE: To analyze the influence of different mixing pads on the physical and mechanical properties of glass ionomer cement. METHODS: Three different glass ionomer base cements were mixed with a plastic spatula on three different mixing pads including paper pad, glass pad and silicon pad whose HS were 40, 60 and 80. The GIC was packed into stainless steel molds to get specimens. Surface roughness, surface hardness and compressive strength were evaluated. RESULTS: As for compressive strength, CF: There was the highest mean compressive strength that was significantly higher than those of silicon pad 60 group, paper 60 group and paper 20 group in silicon pad 40 group, the differences P values were 0.002, 0.027, and 0.036, statistically significant difference between the above groups (P<0.05). IX: there was the highest mean compressive strength that was significantly higher than those of silicon pad 60 group in paper pad 20 group,the differences P value was 0.008, statistically significant (P<0.05). FX: there was the highest mean compressive strength that was no significantly higher than those of paper pad 20 group in silicon pad 40 group, but was significantly higher than those of the other groups. As for surface hardness, CF: there was the highest mean surface hardness that was significantly higher than those of silicon pad 60 and 80 group, paper 60 group in silicon pad 40 group, the differences P value was 0.021, 0.001, 0.032, 0.008 and 0.016, statistically significant difference between the above groups (P<0.05). IX and FX: there was no statistical significance between any two groups in surface hardness. As for surface roughness, CF: there was no statistical significance between any two groups in surface roughness. IX: there was the lowest mean surface roughness that was significantly lower than those of paper pad 40 and 60 group in glass pad group, the differences P values were 0.003 and 0.027, statistically significant difference between the above groups (P<0.05). FX: there was the lowest mean surface roughness that was significantly lower than those of paper pad 60 group in glass pad group, the differences P value was 0.018, showing a statistical difference (P<0.05). CONCLUSION: Mixing glass ionomer cement on silicon pad 40 results in higher compressive strength and lower surface roughness, worthy of clinical popularization.

ABSTRACT

Hydrogen sulfide (H2S) promotes gastric acid secretion in rats. The present study aimed to test the hypothesis that H2S regulates this response via activating TRPV1 channel and through activation of the nuclear factor-κB (NF-κB) pathway. Male Wistar rats were randomly divided into the sodium hydrosulfide (NaHS, 100 µmol/kg b.w.) group, pyrrolidine dithiocarbamate (PDTC, 100 µmol/kg b.w.) group, PDTC (100 µmol/kg b.w.) + NaHS (100 µmol /kg b.w.) group, capsazepine (0.1 mM) + NaHS (100 µmol /kg b.w.) group and L703606 (0.1 mM) + NaHS (100 µmol /kg b.w.) group. The acidity of gastric juice before injection and after injection were determined by a pH meter. The results showed that sodium hydrosulfide (NaHS), an exogenous H2S donor, significantly reduced the pH of gastric juice when injected into the enterocoelia. Further, the promotional effect of NaHS on gastric acid secretion could be attenuated by capsazepine, a transient receptor potential vanilloid 1 (TRPV1) antagonist; L703606, a neurokinin 1 (NK1) receptor antagonist; and PDTC, a NF-κB inhibitor. The data from these experiments suggest that NaHS exerts an excitatory effect on gastric acid secretion possibly mediated by TRPV1 channel activation in sensory nerve terminals with the consequent release of substance P and in a NF-κB -dependent manner.

ABSTRACT

The implementation of wastewater reuse is becoming an increasingly important means of supplementing water supply needs and/or reducing costs. The present paper provides examples of possible uses of treated domestic effluent for the three sectors, i.e. public water supply, industrial and agricultural uses with the aim to address the feasibility of these applications. It is concluded that, although The Netherlands as a whole is considered to be a low water stressed country, regional fresh water scarcity and costs can result in the need for applications of domestic wastewater reuse.

ABSTRACT

High-resolution (e,2e) measurements of the valence electronic structure and momentum-space electron density distributions of n-butane have been exhaustively reanalyzed in order to cope with the presence of two stable structures in the gas phase, namely the all-staggered and gauche conformers. The measurements are compared to a series of Boltzmann-weighted simulations based on the momentum-space form of Kohn-Sham (B3LYP) orbital densities, and to ionization spectra obtained from high-level [ADC(3)] one-particle Green's Function calculations. Indubitable improvements in the quality of the simulated (e,2e) ionization spectra and electron momentum profiles are seen when the contributions of the gauche form of n-butane are included. Both the one-electron binding energies and momentum distributions consistently image the distortions and topological changes that molecular orbitals undergo due to torsion of the carbon backbone, and thereby exhibit variations which can be traced experimentally. With regard to the intimate relation of (e,2e) cross sections with orbital densities, electron momentum spectroscopy can therefore be viewed as a very powerful, but up to now largely unexploited, conformational probe. The study also emphasizes the influence of thermal agitation in photoionization experiments of all kind.

ABSTRACT

SGF gum, derived from the plant Sesbania cannabina, has properties very similar to those of guar gum. Because it is much cheaper than guar, SGF gum is of interest as a possible new food additive. It has therefore been tested in rats for acute, short-term and subchronic toxicity, teratogenicity and effects on reproductive performance, and a 1% concentration in the diet has been identified as the no-effect level. The tests complied with the guidelines issued by the Chinese authorities. Mutagenicity studies, Ames tests and a micronucleus test gave negative results, and a dominant lethal test in mice was negative at the 1% dietary level, although at 5 and 10% the results were equivocal. No adverse changes were elicited in 23 human volunteers who consumed a total of 960 mg SGF gum during a 30-day period during which they consumed, daily, 80 g ice-cream containing 0.04% SGF gum instead of the usual thickener. On the basis of applying a 100-fold safety factor to the findings in the animal studies, an acceptable human daily intake of 6 mg/kg is suggested.
