ABSTRACT

The efficient capture of copper ions (Cu2+) in wastewater has dual significance in pollution control and resource recovery. Prussian blue analog (PBA)-based pseudocapacitive materials with open frameworks and abundant metal sites have attracted considerable attention as capacitive deionization (CDI) electrodes for copper removal. In this study, the efficiency of copper hexacyanoferrate (CuHCF) as CDI electrode for Cu2+ treating was evaluated for the first time upon the successful synthesis of copper hexacyanoferrate/carbon sheet combination (CuHCF/C) by introducing carbon sheet as conductive substrate. CuHCF/C exhibited significant pseudocapacitance and high specific capacitance (52.92 F g-1) through the intercalation, deintercalation, and coupling of Cu+/Cu2+ and Fe2+/Fe3+ redox pairs. At 0.8 an applied voltage and CuSO4 feed liquid concentration of 100 mg L-1, the salt adsorption capacity was 134.47 mg g-1 higher than those of most reported electrodes. Moreover, CuHCF/C demonstrated excellent Cu2+ selectivity in multi-ion coexisting solutions and in actual wastewater experiments. Density functional theory (DFT) calculations were employed to elucidate the mechanism. This study not only reveals the essence of Cu2+ deionization by PBAs pseudocapacitance with promising potential applications but also provides a new strategy for selecting efficient CDI electrodes for Cu2+ removal.

ABSTRACT

Non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) is one of the most prevalent tumors with high incidence and mortality across the globe. Recently, increasing studies have demonstrated that circular RNAs (circRNAs) exert outstanding functions in NSCLC progression. Notwithstanding, we are still in the dark about the function and exact mechanism of circ-PITX1, a newly discovered circRNA. Quantitative reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR) confirmed the profile of circ-PITX1 in NSCLC tissues and adjacent normal tissues. Gain- and loss- of function assay verified the impact of circ-PITX1 and miR-30e-5p on the proliferation, invasion, and migration of NSCLC cells (H1975 and A549). Bioinformatics analysis corroborated the downstream mechanisms of circ-PITX1. Dual-luciferase reporter gene assay and RNA immunoprecipitation (RIP) examined the interactions between circ-PITX1 and miR-30e-5p, miR-30e-5p and ITGA6. The protein levels of ITGA6, PI3K, AKT were determined by Western blot. circ-PITX1 was substantially up-regulated in NSCLC tissues and cells, and circ-PITX1 up-regulation was correlated with NSCLC patients' poor survival. Functionally, circ-PITX1 overexpression or miR-30e-5p inhibition markedly facilitated proliferation, migration, invasion, epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT), reduced apoptosis, and enhanced ITGA6/PI3K/AKT expression in NSCLC cells, whereas circ-PITX1 knockdown or miR-30e-5p up-regulation resulted in the opposite results. Mechanistically, circ-PITX1 acted as a sponge of miR-30e-5p, which targeted the 3'untranslated region (UTR) of ITGA6. Knockdown of circ-PITX1 or overexpressing miR-30e-5p reduced ITGA6/PI3K/AKT axis. circ-PITX1 modulates the miR-30e-5p/ITGA6 axis to boost NSCLC progression, hence functioning as an oncogene.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE: To explore clinical effects of distal radius T-plates in treating vertical shear medial malleolus fractures. METHODS: From March 2014 and March 2016, clinical data of 18 patients with vertical shear medial malleolus fractures were retrospectively analyzed, including 12 males and 6 females aged from 22 to 63 years old with an average of (41.3±5.2) years old; 6 patients were on the left side and 12 patients were on the right side; 5 patients combined with external malleolus fractures and 13 patients combined with external malleolus and posterior malleolus fractures. All patients were treated with distal radius T-plate fixation. Fracture healing time, loss of reduction, stability of internal fixation, occurrence of osteoarthritis were observed, postoperative AOFAS score at 12 months was used to evaluate clinical effects. RESULTS: All patients were followed up from 18 to 36 months with an average of (22.5±4.3) months. All incisions healed well at stageⅠ. Review of X-ray showed that ankle joints were got anatomically reset. All fractures healed well ranged from 12 to 18 weeks with an average of (13.4±2.4) weeks. After surgery, patients resumed normal walking from 12 to 17 weeks with an average of (14.5±1.3) weeks. No complications such as loss of reduction, loosening or rupture of internal fixation, nonunion of fracture, radiographic appearance of osteoarthritis occurred during following up. AOFAS scores was 92.4 ±6.7 at 12 months after operation, and 15 patients got excellent result, 3 moderate. CONCLUSION: Distal radius T-plates for treatment of vertical shear medial malleolus fractures have advantages of firm fixation, conforming to biomechanical requirements, better matching with plate anatomy, and less soft tissue stimulation. It could achieve early function exercise, obtain good recovery of function, and it is an ideal choice for the treatment of vertical shear medial malleolus fractures.
