ABSTRACT

The purpose of this study is to propose guidelines for sensor installation in different types of underground space smart sensing platforms. Firstly, we classify the underground space, analyze the scene requirements according to the classification of underground space, and sort out the requirements for sensors in various types of underground space. Secondly, according to the requirements of underground space scenes for sensors, the types of sensors and corresponding parameters are clarified. After that, the system design and sensor installation guidelines of the underground space smart sensing platform are proposed by sorting out the data acquired by the sensor.

ABSTRACT

Walking maintains an indisputable advantage as a simple transport mode over short distances. Various situations have shown that when staying in a walk-friendly built environment, people are more likely to walk and interact with their surroundings. Scholars have reported some evidence of the influence of neighbourhood environments on personal walking trips. Most existing studies of the correlation between the built environment and walking, however, have been conducted in the West and are cross-sectional, which leaves a gap in addressing the causality between built environments and walking under the intervention of regeneration measures. This study takes a historic district of a mid-sized city in China as the research area and reports the changes in the traditional residential district's built environment caused by the implementation of urban regeneration. In this paper, we use physical and perceptual indicators to measure the walkability of the built environment. We identify the changed content of the built environment's walkability and the change of residents' walking behaviour through longitudinal and quasi-longitudinal methods. The conclusion shows that the implementation of a regeneration project of the historic district has greatly changed perceived walkability, which has significantly promoted residents' recreational walking trips, especially among the population of middle-aged and elderly people in the district. The conclusion that the built environment's change promotes recreational walking is contrary to the research performed in sprawling Western contexts such as in the US, and it provides a meaningful supplement for research on the topic in an Asian context.

ABSTRACT

Social welfare and public health departments require reliable assessments to enhance the rationality of phased construction of special elderly nursing homes (SENHs). This paper aims to assess the allocation of SENHs based on a beds-needed index for SENHs (BNIS). This may help departments determine the priority for approving locations of SENHs more accurately with a limited budget. Traditional assessments in Tokyo use the sphere of welfare, ward, and sphere of daily life as spatial units for estimating beds-to-elderly population ratios. We calculate the BNIS by introducing a parameter-improved floating catchment area method (PI-FCA) at a smaller spatial unit, the Chome. In the PI-FCA, the catchment area is generated according to the standard of average population served by SENHs and capacity, the population demand is the population of the elderly requiring care levels 3-5 and is further modified by a coefficient of potential demand via building a multivariate linear model. Improved results were obtained using the PI-FCA. Finally, this study maps the distribution of the degree of BNIS, to provide a basis for the allocation assessment of SENHs. This caters to the needs of departments and is easily applicable in other public healthcare facilities.

ABSTRACT

We show that stable bright solitons can appear in a medium with spatially inhomogeneous self-defocusing (SDF) nonlinearity of a double-well structure. For a specific choice of the nonlinearity parameters, we obtain exact analytical solutions for the fundamental bright solitons. By making use of the linear stability analysis, the stability region in the parameter space for the exact fundamental bright soliton is obtained numerically. We also show the bifurcation from an antisymmetric to an asymmetric bright soliton for the SDF double-well nonlinearity.
