ABSTRACT
The authors offer a visual method for assessing the intravascular platelet activation, based on examination under phase-contrast microscope of changes in the shape and relative number of blood platelets in aggregations. Results of examinations of patients with different thrombotic diseases are presented.

Direct measurement of the force of clot contraction from the plasma in normal subjects and standardization of plasma platelet count, carried out with a retractograph, a newly designed apparatus, have helped assess the platelet retractile activity. Linear relationship between platelet count in the clot from the plasma and the force of the clot contraction, detected in normal subjects, allows one to do without standardization of the platelet count to a preset level when measuring the blood platelet retractile activity in patients.

The literature data on the condition of the platelet part of the homeostasis in patients with acute leukemia are summarized. The importance of functional changes in blood plates in the development of hemorrhagic complications is demonstrated. In acute leukemia, the development of various platelet syndromes such as thrombasthenia, thrombocytopathy, including a deficiency of the pool of storage of athrombia is possible.
