ABSTRACT

This study reports the biosynthesis of silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) using methanolic leaf extract of Pogostemon cablin Benth. (Patchouli) as a reducing agent, and their potent biological (antibacterial, antioxidant and anticancer) activities. The P. cablin extract when exposed to silver nitrate reduced silver ions to form crystalline AgNPs within 1 h of incubation at room-temperature. UV-visible spectra showed a sharp surface plasmon resonance (SPR) at around 430 nm for the biosynthesized AgNPs and the XRD pattern indicated the crystalline planes of the face centered cubic silver. The FE-SEM analysis revealed the occurrence of predominant spherical shaped AgNPs with a huge disparity in their particle size distribution with an average size of 25 nm, while, the FTIR data confirmed the bio-reduction and capping of AgNPs by several phytocompounds present in the methanolic leaf extract. AgNPs effectively inhibited the growth of all the tested human pathogenic bacterial strains (Bacillus subtilis, Staphylococcus aureus, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and Escherichia coli), while, the methanolic leaf extract failed to inhibit the growth of S. aureus and P. aeruginosa. AgNPs showed the highest free radical scavenging activity (79.0 ± 0.76%) compared to methanolic leaf extract (68.3 ± 0.68%) at 100 µg/ml. Further, the cytotoxicity study using 3-(4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide (MTT) confirmed that AgNPs successfully inhibited the human colon adenocarcinoma cell line (HT-29) in a dose dependent manner. At higher concentrations (500 µg/ml), only 4% of cells survived after 72 hrs of exposure with IC50 value of 120 µg/ml. Thus, these findings offer a new source of biomolecules with diverse biological activities.

ABSTRACT

Objective To analyze the clinical efficacy and adverse reactions of desloratadine citrate decre-mental therapy in treatment of chronic urticaria. Methods 162 cases of patients with chronic urticaria were selected, they were randomly divided into observation group and control group.Control group was given routine treatment of desloratadine citrate capsule, while the observation group was given desloratadine citrate capsule decreasing therapy, the therapeutic effect and the levels of serum immunoglobulins were compared between the two groups. Results After treatment, the total effective rate of the observation group was 95.06%,there was no significant difference compared with 92.59% of the control group (χ2 =3.254,P >0.05);Two weeks and four weeks after treatment,IgE levels were significantly lower than before treatment, there were significant difference (t =8.291,7.931,6.936,5.152,all P 0.05).The recurrence rate in the treatment group was 19.75%,which was significantly lower than the 40.74% of the control group, the difference between the two groups was statistically signif-icant (χ2 =6.914,P 0.05).Conclusion Desloratadine citrate capsules in treatment of chronic urticaria can not only obtain more effective clinical curative effect, but also has less toxic side effect. For the purposes of the application method of the drug, decreasing method compared with conventional medication therapy can effectively improve the level of serum IgE.Therefore,it is worthy of clinical application.

ABSTRACT

Objective To explore the effect and toxicity of S -1 combined with oxaliplatin neoadjuvant chemotherapy in treatment of advanced gastric cancer. Methods 70 patients with gastric cancer were divided into the study group and the control group by using the random number table method,35 cases in each group. The study group was given neoadjuvant chemotherapy with S -1 combined with oxaliplatin, and the control group was treated with FOLFOX regimen. After three cycles of treatment, the effect and the toxicity of the two groups were observed and com-pared.Results The total effective rate of the study group was 71.43%,which was significantly higher than 45.71%(16 /35)of the control group (χ2 =5.02,P 0.05).Conclusion S -1 combined with oxaliplatin neoadjuvant chemotherapy has good effect in treatment of advanced gastric cancer, the side reaction is small, with high safety.

ABSTRACT

Objective To investigate the clinical efficacy of felodipine combined with irbesartan in the treat-ment of hypertension and its effect on atherosclerosis in remission .Methods 100 patients with hypertension were divided into the observation group and the control group .The control group was given the felodipine treatment ,the obser vation group was given felodipine treatment based on the control group .The treatment effect ,changes of blood control and carotid artery intima-media thickness were compared between the two groups .Results The total effective rate of the observation group was 90.0%,which was significantly higher than 72% of the control group (χ2 =3.85,P<0.05).After treatment, the systolic pressure, diastolic pressure of the observation group were significantly lower than those in the control group(t=4.21,5.05,all P<0.05).After treatment, the size, thickness of carotid artery plaque of the observation group were significantly lower than those of the control group (t =1.98,5.05,all P <0.05). Conclusion Felodipine combined with irbesartan can significantly improve the therapeutic effect of hypertensive patients, and can improve the control of blood pressure ,slow the progression of atherosclerosis .
